I tried their chilli crab 600g X 2 for about $40. It tasted good although the crabs are small and not so meaty. Still, I think it is reasonably priced and will buy again.

Really delicious. Just on the slightly pricey side as it’s a restaurant.

Would recommend the caipo tofu that’s made of egg tofu rather than the usual silk tofu. Making is more “bouncy” and gives it extra flavor. The caipo is also well fried and not salty. Always a go to for me and my family.

The fish head curry has nice thickness and was well seasoned. Is a good portion size.

The dragon vegetable is really fresh and cooked just right as well.

The fish soup is thick and really good.

    They’re generous with their ingredients.

    Highly recommend.

Old restaurant serving nice food that are reasonably priced. Went on weekday nite thus not very crowded but still having a good number of tables occupied.

They are running a promotion of 2crabs at $35. Real value for money. And the chilli crab is super nice. Not too sweet and with correct level of spiciness. Paired with the deep fried bun is perfect.

The other 2 dishes we ordered Garlic Pork Ribs and Hotplate Beancurd are also very tasty.

Something to recommend is the lime juice with sour plum drink. It’s really nice!! Must order.

Food’s pretty ordinary to be frank. Place isn’t well kept and pretty squeezy. Go ahead if you’re staying close by or going because of a fave deal, or else I’ll say there are better restaurants out there at the given price!

Very fresh seafood and reasonable prices. The lady boss was super friendly. We wanted dungeness crab and she just said to call on day earlier to reserve. Staff is super friendly too. You can bring your own alcohol except beer as they sell beer. Wine glasses are provided but they will charge $6 if you break it. Which is reasonable I feel.

Pretty packed restaurant, do make reservations if you intend to dine in large group.
Seafood is decent, ordered the crab and I find it fresh and nice, can consider ordering the chilli crab.
Aircon is a bit cold, pls do consider wearing jacket for the kids if you bring along

    Chinese food taste quite good.
But a bit pricey, could be because of CNY.
Standard menu prices all up by few dollars.

    Recommend – Butter/Salted Egg Squid.

Good Chinese food at an affordable restaurant price. Each dish was fragrant and had a good wok hei.

Only gripe would be that the coffee pork ribs were on the sweeter side, and could have more coffee taste.

    Good local chinese food.

Back again to try the crab promotion offer. They have 2 small crabs for $35 per set. The cooking style for the crab is rather limited compared to the next door restaurant. Hope they may have more variety of cooking style. I love the egg white with wine offer by the neighbour.

Food is very good & tasty. Sharkskin soup has the authentic old school taste with mock fins. Love it! Yam basket is tasty though a tat too thin for me . Overall, it’s a very good value meal. Staff are friendly & helpful. Will come again the third, fourth & more times …

Food was ok, could do with less seasoning.
Fresh seafood, we had prawns and lobster w noodles.

We ordered 2 crabs (450g to 550g) for $45. You can choose to have the cheaper version of 2 crabs of <450g for $35 or more expensive options. There was a stale taste in the crabs that we order and the chilli gravy wasn’t as good (tasted too sweet) and one of the crabs was significantly starving, meat was smaller than the shell with water in it. Perhaps try other flavours, we see some people ordered black pepper and tang hoon flavours. Overall it was okay for the price but will not recommend. Take note that warm water is free but ice water is chargeable.

Crab promo very worth for visit, good price point and portion. table service is usual as good and prompt. Presentation of dishes, price and portion similar to previous visits. Taste wise, marked improvement to last visit. All seafood items are fresh or “live” at reasonable price, definitely better option than to buy and cook at home.

Main dishes were filling and rich, very brothy and fresh with generous portions to share and enjoy. Although in humble settings, the staff continue to stay attentive with frequent plate changes and refilling of chysanthemum tea! Price is reasonable given the quality of the food but dessert menu can be upgraded!

I usually order food delivery from them. The food is good and the service is even better. Once, they forgotten to pack additional rice that I requested. After speaking to them, they apologise and the boss personally drove all the way from Macpherson to Bedok to deliver 2 packets of plain rice valued at $2.00, that’s what I call service. Have been patronising them since they were at Toa Payoh decade ago.

Happened to chance upon this restaurant while walking along MacPherson. Was lured in by the crab promo which turned out to be really legit and good. Crabs were fresh and tasty. Hotplate beancurd was also awesome. Glad to have found such a gem! Cannot wait to come back with the family to eat the crabs and try out more stuff from the menu.

We tried yi jia previously in their previous store which is now closed down. Had fond memories from that shop.

Went again to try their food. The food was good. The cai Po tofu is just the right taste. Not too salty or sweet. Same as the egg. The curry fish head is OK, but not as impressive as last time. The curry is now more to the watery side and has less kick to it.

One thing I want to comment is that they served the prawn chips and peanuts to us without asking us. Basically just put the chips and peanuts down on the table, while we were discussing on what to order, and left. When we later told a waitress that we did not want it, the waitress told us that we MUST let them know when they first serve it to us.

I would suggest the waitress that it is the business’s responsibility to ask us whether we want it or not, before serving. Not just serve things to us blindly and expect immediate response. That’s just a weird mentality.

I rate 4 for the food, and 2 for the poor service mentality.

Went for dinner today, using fave voucher. Not sure if they differentiated based on voucher usage, as the portions we received appeared smaller than I’d expected e.g. medium fish of prawn balls had around 6-7 pieces ($30). The meat dishes like sweet sour pork, black pepper beef were quite poor. The caipo tofu, which was supposedly the signature dish, tasted a little weird, as if too much hua tiao wine went into it. Not a memorable dinner. Perhaps will try the crab beehoon one day.

Most popular dish amongst us has got to be the tofu with cai-poh (preserved turnip). Heavenly with rice. Every table comes with crackers and chilli sauce. Can’t remember if it is complimentary, but it is sinfully delicious nevertheless. Quite pricey for zi-char, likely due to its air-con setting.

They displayed live crabs outside their shops. 2 for $35, 2 for $45 and so on. Depending on the size. View for yourself and choose what you crave or just go with $35 would be just enough for 2. We ordered black pepper crab 2 for $35. Delicious! The pepper is spicy enough and also sweet. Dont taste artificial, could taste coarse pepper and garlic in the sauce. Oyster on the other hand, taste okay. 5 for $20 medium size oysters from USA. However the taste of the ocean was washed away. The oysters doesnt have the taste of the saltiness from the sea. We believe that it has been rinsed to ensure hygiene before serving. But its such a pity. Rate: 3/5

Great food, great price, great service. Probably one of the most under-rated food restaurant in Singapore. Check out their deals on crabs! Gotta try their fish head curry, Chai Po Tofu, Herbal Kampong Chicken Soup, Clams in Garlic and even Steamed Prawns! You will leave with a full stomach and is suprisingly easy on the wallet too!

Nice food. Judging from the full house crowd on a Saturday night, I’m not the only one who thinks so.

  132. Avatar photo

Service was good. Staff was friendly and funny. The promotional crabs go at $35, $45 and $55 for 450 grams, 550 grams and 650 grams respectively. We got the $45 bundle of two crabs but probably this isn’t much different from the $35 one. The crabs are fresh but not sure if they are sri lankan crabs. The meat has this “stale” and “mud/soil” taste though. We actually are not sure if the crabs are freshly chopped or it was already pre-steamed and then stirred fried. Because the crab meat wasn’t taste steamy hot when it was served.

Chilli sauce was average at best. Will try the black pepper flavor the next round.

Pro tip: if you’re reserving a table via Google Maps, please select Quandoo or Chope. Because Eatigo charges them a substantial amount of commission charge and you won’t be able to enjoy their promotional crabs prices. Give and take. With Eatigo, you get discounts during off-peak timings though.

Not bad a place to celebrate birthdays as a family as they usually have family promotions. Mainly easy to order with the fixed dinner sets so a bit no brainer for you don’t have to waste time thinking so much amd just get the recommendations. People normally come here for the crabs as they are selling quite cheap here for restaurants standard. 2 for 35 dollars. Can choose the style you want them to be cooked but normally always go for the chilli crab to get the sauce to eat with the mantous.

Used to be a regular but no longer going to patronize after younger staff’s(might be young lady boss) bad service and attitude towards customer.

What went wrong for my latest visit:
    1. Crab meat tasted weird
    2. Baby cockroach climbed out from table underneath
    3. Mentioned lady’s nonchalant attitude of disregarding customer’s request for chilli sauce and air con to be switched on
    4. Mentioned lady’s attitude of talking back to customer that it is restaurant’s SOP to bring wet towel over to cashier to void charges
    5. Mentioned lady after talking back as above, went ahead with charging the wet towels(super inattentive)
    6. Mentioned lady eventually overcharged us for eating stir fry pork but charged for beef

Giving them two stars because of the better service from the server aunties.
Mentioned lady did a very good job of pissing off a regular customer and I think she didn’t need my business after all – mission accomplished.

Though their food is great, I would like to warn future patrons that the restaurant is not honest when it comes to their promotions so do be extremely cautious!

Went with mine and my bf’s family to treat our loved ones. The food is pretty good with the crispy sotong and deer meat being our favourites. They were also running a promo on their beehoon crab at $38.90. We decided to try it and the beehoon was great! Overall, the food was delicious and we do love it but poor service and a lack of communication over promotion brought this review to 3 stars. We were served roughly, not in the most polite manner but I guess such rushed service is typical of such Chinese family restaurants, so fair enough. It was also crowded as we went on a weekend, so we let that slide as we understand it was a busy night. When it was time to pay, we were told that our fave voucher does not cover the crab promotion. So we asked for the bills to separated but Angie, the lady who billed us, insisted that this was not allowed as that would cost them lots of money. However, we did call the restaurant prior to our visit to confirm the fave voucher validity. Angie told us that we should have read the terms and conditions. We then said the crab promo T&C should have been explained to us too. She then asked how we reserved our seats, and we said Quando. And now Angie is frustrated at us for costing her money us Quando bookings cannot be paid by fave vouchers. Despite us calling to confirm all our vouchers, we were only told at the counter that these promotions could not be stacked. By this time, I just wanted to leave the overly packed and crowded restaurant, I told Angie we will pay the full price of the crab. To my horror the small dish of two tiny crabs and three portions of beehoon came to $99++!!! Won’t be going back again because of such dishonesty.

The quality of food is average. The chilli crabs sold at promotional price were worth trying, but I do not find anything exceptional for the rest of the dishes. The mixed pork ribs in three different flavours were interesting and the most memorable dish for the night.

A pleasant surprise. Walked in without hearing anything about the place. They had a special offer of two crabs for $50. Weren’t sure what the quality would be like but gave it a try. We firstly ordered salted egg yolk fish skin to have with a beer. It was a little larger than we expected, but it was really good. The fish skin was crispy and the egg yolk was made out of real egg and was delicious. The crab was ordered in a bee hoon noodle style. We had the choice of dry or soupy and opted for the dry. It was very good value and delicious. The two crabs were of a good size and quite fleshy and tasty. The bee hoon noodles were fresh and very tasty. You could tell the flavour from the wok really spread the taste through the noodles and the flavour of the gravy was garlicky but delicious. We topped the meal of with dragon veg, with comes from the Cameron highlands in Malaysia and is crispy thanks to the stem and has a nice fresh quality to it. Overall it was a great meal and just over $100 (thanks to four beers) it was also pretty good value. Will definitely come again.
