Today was my BSF – Baby Sitting Friday. So the kids voted for Thai meal (they love & eat all cuisines) and we soon found ourselves between Tom Yum seafood soup, Crab fried rice and Basil Chicken spicy curry. Yaowarat Seafood is a nice neighbourly budget priced restaurant with tastes as good Bangkok street food (at lower spice levels). Their chatuchak coconut ice cream is top quality dish. Food comes fast, steaming and fresh (not much frozen material). On leaving, the cute waitress asked ‘Sir do you need an umbrella as it’s raining outside?’ – all of it meant great, warm service. Recommended.

Second time coming here and both visits would be 5 stars! The menu has more variety than you may find at most Thai restaurants.

The food is delicious and the service great, very friendly and attentive. Have had a variety of dishes the past two visits, shown here are the seafood salad, shellfish salad, and of course you have to get the Tom yum soup. Other great dishes are the garlic pork(highly recommend), papaya salad, pineapple seafood fried rice, and green veggies.

Good drink selection including some hearty coconuts.

Came during CNY so did our yu sheng as well!

Gets crowded fast, so call ahead to make reservation. The dishes we ordered are all excellent, with the fried pork being exceptional – crispy tender and juicy. The sotong and lala were on the skinny side, but the flavors are good. Grilled pork was sold out. the restaurant charges 50cents for water.

This place serves authentic Thai dishes that are slightly from the usual menu. Yaowarat Seafood offers both Thai and local Chinese cuisine such as creamy beehoon , spicy tom yum grilled, deep fried and stir fried selections.

The restaurant was packed when we were there. However, the service was swift and the staff were really friendly.

The XO lobster treasure pot and their famous Chilled Ark Cockles are highly recommended. Do make order in advance to avoid long waiting time.

    Good food!

The fish, green curry and turmeric chicken were wonderful! The prawns in the tom saap were very big and generous, although the broth was a bit milky to what I’m accustomed to, it still tasted really good!!

EDIT (3rd visit): Cockles are fat, fresh and succulent. Love it!

They serve good qualify and authentic Thai dishes that don’t break the bank. We ordered steamed squid Thai style (flavourful and juicy), papaya salad (authentic just like what you’ll get in Thailand), and Onion Omelette (egg is fluffy and not greasy). We shared Red Ruby dessert – a good balance of sweet and savoury from the different ingredients.

We were here on a weekday night, did a walk-in and we we were seated immediately. The place was lively but not crowded. I want to give a shout out to the male server who is attentive and friendly.

Lovely Thai food. Steamed fish was tender & fresh, not overcooked. Crab beehoon came with huge portion of beehoon. Meat was fresh and sweet. Staff recommended 900g for 3 of us but I think it can feed 4-5 pax. Only downside was restaurant can get noisy when it’s crowded.

Was attracted to the name as i was expecting the real thai taste, overall not disappointing as food has a well ballance of sourness and not over sweetness like most other joint. Generous serving of seafood with no hint of msg. Service was good and attentive.

Fresh seafood and good flavours at a nice casual eatery.

The venue is air-conditioned and basically one step above the regular zi char places.

We ordered the XO noodles with prawns (though you can top it up with crab or lobster), a egg with seafood, some kangkung belacan, and the garlic pork. Really enjoyed how everything was cooked.

Do note though that upgrading the size of the XO noodles may not necessarily upgrade the amount of noodles you get. Rather, you get an increase in the seafood, which is definitely appreciated, but at the same time, there could be more noodles in the dish so we wouldn’t have to place side orders for other carbs.

Restaurant is well decided and makes you feel like you’re in Thailand again. The table is standard rectangular and quite squeezy for 5 pax. We had no space to put all our dishes on the table without compromising on own space when consuming food. But it’s fine. Food is really good. Must must must order their oysters which is super value for money. Huge and meaty and juicy! Not fishy at all. Just oyster and lime – good to go. We also ordered crab beehoon which is so good. The broth is very flavorful. Wanted their crab roe milk dish but they said they didn’t manage to secure roe crabs that day.

Must order: the Fried Kway Teow and the Grilled pork.

The fried kway teow was smooth, full flavoured, not too oily, good wok hei and overflowing with ingredients.

The Grilled pork is nicely smoked, marinated and very tender. Comes with a nice light but salty spicy sauce.

The clear tom yum is very sour and doesn’t have a spicy kick to it. Hmmm. Not to my liking.

Veggie was good, nice crunch to it but not too tough. Omelette is okay. Butter garlic clams were also okay lo. Nothing fantastic.

Place is very crowded, if you come late on weekends, you might have to wait for a bit. They tried to provide good service but seems like they were really too busy.

I’d suggest avoiding the oysters! They are not alive, are barely fresh, and overpriced. I’d say the rest of the menu is also overpriced.
The chilli crab and Tom Yam were delicious though! Those two dishes are the only reason for the 3 stars.
The mango salad was full of sugar syrup. The coconut was also quite tough.

Great seafood although slightly on the pricier side. Recommended dishes include the steamed seafood platter and the squid. The oysters, when available, are highly recommended too.

I ordered the BBQ crab 600g with Thai sauce ($53). Unfortunately, it was difficult to eat since the flesh was more shriveled (rather than juicy when steamed), and whatever meat was left was also stuck to the shell. Hence doesn’t have the shiok feeling of eating after all that effort peeling. Barbequing crabs probably works better for thicker parts.

Ordered the signature claypot xo crab beehoon but changed it to lobster (need to top up) and do not regret! The soup base is super nice and food is v fresh and juicy. Given that it took them time to cook , deliver (at 6.15pm) and me waiting for family to start dinner at 7.30pm, everything was still juicy and tender! Website was very easy to navigate and order. Whole experience was seamless. Strongly recommend and will definitely order again!

I finally made a trip down to this place for dinner after hearing much about it online. And to be honest, I wasn’t impressed by the food.

First off, the item that wasn’t in the menu was the BEST! And honestly, it was the only dish that blew us away. This was the Chai Poh Tofu (Preserved Turnip Tofu). This dish was amazing, and at only $10, it was not expensive considering the standards. The tofu was fried to perfection, with the abundance of turnips complimenting the light soya sauce, made this dish one to salivate upon serving.

But it just goes downhill from there.

The pineapple fried rice, seafood cake, and the BBQ pork were alright, with nothing to brag about.

However, the Pad Thai, which is my go-to dish at every Thai eatery, was probably the worst I’ve tried. This Pad Thai was so dry upon serving, it looked like it was left there for a while before serving. When we were mixing it up, the noodles were all clumped together and my pre-judgement was made. The smell wasn’t as aromatic as I usually expect, and the taste was a huge letdown…

I’m not sure if it was the dishes I’ve ordered, or the chef, or the high number of customers that contributed to the average experience, but I expected more from the food…

Came on new year eve, and unfortunately most items (those highly raved) were sold out.

Tried their spicy lala which is not even spicy at all.
Pork neck which is too tough for my liking.
Handmade pork sausage – didn’t really like it because of the texture (lemongrass), but my peers said it’s quite good.
Tomyum fried rice – not flavourful enough

I like how they let their customers add sugar syrup to the milk tea so that we can choose our preferred sweetness level.

Thai Chinese Seafood Restaurant in Singapore

The name Yaowarat is well-known to Singaporeans who have travelled to Bangkok, Thailand. It is also known as the Chinatown of Bangkok, famous for its street food, seafood, bird’s nest, shark fins and shopping. LD and I will try to drop by every time we are in Bangkok to stock up on the Chai Po and Kiam Chye from the Yaowarat wet market.

We visited Yaowarat Seafood was due to their FB post of steam milk crab that packed with lots of roe. When we made a reservation, we also place an order for steam milk crab. We were informed during reservation; they might need to check with the supplier if the crabs with solid roe are available.

On the day of the visit, Yaowarat inform us that the crab from the supplier is not loaded with crab roe, therefore they suggest to change the cooking method and they will adjust the price as well. So, we end up with Live Crab Steam Hong Kong Style ($72 for 500 gram). The crab is fresh and sweet; however, the roe is very minimum. Although you can taste the natural flavours of the crab, I find this cooking style is too simple, almost like eating crab at home.

Chai Po Omelette ($8.90). If a Thai restaurant can’t do this dish properly, they do not deserve your hard earn dollar. The omelette is done just right here. It is light and fluffy with generous chopped chai po inside for that crunchy bite.

Seafood Cake ($7.90, 4pcs). Crispy exterior crumbs, filled with springy seafood paste. It is flavourful and chewy at the same time. If the fillings are denser, it will be deliciously addictive.

Seabass Steam Thai Style ($29.90). Fresh seabass steam with lime, garlic, cilantro, chilli, fish sauce and sugar. A medley of flavours sweet, sour, savoury and spicy accompanied the fresh seabass in each bite. LD and I like seabass because of the smooth and silky texture of the flesh.

Do take note that Yaowarat cooking style is Thai Chinese. If you like your food very spicy (ala Thai Street Food spiciness level), you need to ask the kitchen to crank up the chilli level.

Thai Kang Kong ($7.90). Stir-fried Thai style, meaning with garlic and a few teaspoons of fish sauce. The kang kong is crunchy, with a pungent umami taste to it.

Pork Satay ($14.50 – 5 pcs). Yaowarat version of Moo Ping, Thai Style Grilled Pork Skewers. The huge size of minced pork patties, marinated and grilled to perfection. The exterior is caramelised due to the sweet sauce and lightly charred flavour from the grill. Each bite is filled with juiciness and a total #porkgasm.

A must-order dish here along with Pork Satay is their Deep Fried Garlic Pork ($12.90). Fatty pork belly with a crispy exterior and juicy, almost melt in your mouth flesh. The pork belly has the right fattiness and the bittersweet fried garlic just enhance the pork flavour further.

Tom Yum Seafood ($28.90 – Large). Fresh seafood cooked in traditional Tom Yum style. Served in the traditional charcoal steamboat pot, the soup will warm over a long period. The seafood is fresh; however, the flavour lacks punch. We recommend you order it extra spicy to get the oomph.

On another occasion, LD ordered Thai Vermicelli Prawn ($35) takeaway. I find their version is very solid. The vermicelli is silky, bouncy and absorbs the essence of the prawns and spices. It is not watery and the prawns are fresh as well. One of the better versions of Thai Vermicelli Prawn in Singapore.

Service is friendly and attentive when we went there for lunch. I like their frankness about the availability of their crab and their crab roe. Do expect a long waiting time during busy lunch and dinner period. The décor is very minimal and seating are limited, so you better make your reservation. Their food delivery orders are off the chart.

CBK verdict: a good place to dine for Thai Chinese Seafood. The seafood is fresh and some of their dishes are legit. I recommend their Thai Style Garlic Pork, Pork Satay, Steam Sea Bass and Thai Vermicelli. Cheers!!

Tom Yum Seafood, Squid Steamed Thai Style, Crab Meat Omelette, XO Treasure Pot. The XO Treasure pot taste like a less milder version of the crab bee hoon soup from Mellben or Uncle Leong. The rest of the food is just what it is supposed to taste like but I will skip the crab meat omelette, probably because the Netflix Street Food that feature the famous crab omelette from Bangkok has set a high expectation.

This was an amazing find in Serangoon neighbourhood! Doesn’t look much from the outside and the interior is nothing fancy BUT, the food is the hero here and backed up by excellent, attentive service. If seafood is your thing, it doesn’t come fresher and cooked to perfection. The lobster was succulent, easy to remove the meat and the noodles springy and all enveloped in a fantastic soup / sauce! Definitely recommended! ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Was introduced to this place by a friend. He highly recommended it and we drove to have dinner here. It was around 8pm so we didn’t need to wait long for our seats. There’s ample parking around the area so not to worry.

Food was great. Didn’t have to wait too long and portions are generous. However, they had ran out of crabs which was what we wanted. The lady suggested that we can get the lobster beehoon instead and we decided to do that. Lobster was fresh and the broth was refreshing! However it is ~$20 more than the crab beehoon. Was a good meal though! Pork satays were good too.

Small note: Thai milk tea came without sugar and you can pour your own sugar syrup to your liking. Really appreciate that small touch!

Burned a hole in our wallets that day, but it was worth trying!

Definitely an above average thai seafood restaurant – the seafood was really fresh and cooked perfectly. The live prawns in thai sauce was really fresh and sweet, in a spicy tangy lime sauce that went so well with the prawns. The lobster bee hoon soup was really flavorful, and the live lobster was cooked perfectly (which is hard to do for a lobster in a soup). The kailab was nice and garlicky – would be back for a solid meal.

Establishments like Yaowarat seafood makes me happy ; it’s a simple fuss free place with delicious and simple food topped up with humble and effusive service. We came here for lunch and ordered 3 lunch sets along with a Tom Ka soup. The portions were insanely generous and we had tons of ingredients in our soup. The owner gave us a 20% discount (perhaps they had a promo) when we were not aware and didn’t even ask for it. A honest shop which just wants to focus on letting their food do the talking makes me unbelievably happy. Do support them if you’re looking for fantastic Thai food!

The taste of the dishes here have been really consistent and the portions are quite generous considering the slightly steep price!

The Lobster Seafood Pot($108) is a must-try for all crustacean lovers with its rich creamy broth full of gingery XO flavour. The pot comes with a generous heaping of fresh prawns, clams, and squid. The poor lobster is caught and summoned to death upon order, resulting in its flesh retaining a firm bite and sweet taste. I’d much prefer the broth to be served without the shot of XO, as it kinda muted the gingery seafood notes.

The grilled pork neck and fried garlic pork are another one of my family’s staples. Be sure to eat the grilled pork neck while it’s hot as it tends to get tougher with time. The pork are well seasoned without being too sweet and the generous sprig of coriander does a great job as a palate cleanser.

The Thai Style Kang Kong is a good addition to any meal here. The sweet-savoury taste of beanpaste and the crunchiness of the veg is a welcome change to all the meaty and hearty dishes we ordered.

I have to rave about the drinks here! Although a little pricey at about $3.30, each cup of Thai beverage (Thai Milk Tea, Thai Green Tea, Thai Lemongrass, etc.) is actually served without added sugar. I’m usually avoid Thai teas like the plague due to the high sugar content but over here, I can drink to my heart’s content knowing that it’s really unsweetened!

The desserts here are mindblowingly good! The Chatuchak Coconut Ice Cream came with dashings of sweet corn, peanut powder and best of all, roasted cashews! The ice cream is sweet with a pinch of saltiness, hitting just the right spot after a satisfying meal. The Black Glutinous Rice Coconut dessert is rather carby, with a generous amount of pulut hitam at the base of the bowl. The warm and salty coconut milk paired well with the sweet ice cream. Adorned with peanut powder, roasted cashews and crispy broad bean pops, every mouth is a heavenly union of flavours and textures.

Will be back to try even more stuff.

Came here as we felt the ambience was not bad and the menu looks extensive.

We ordered the white seafood tomyum, pineapple fried rice, pad Thai, and an omelette. For drinks we had Thai iced milk tea and lemon grass drink.

Both the food and drinks were below par. Taste is not as strong as we were expecting. Standard loses to siam kitchen or bali Thai. Both of which are franchises which not much standard in the first place.

I would recommend this place as a quiet spot in Singapore to have some private dining between friends as it feels homely. However, the food and drinks, is not something I would recommend to anyone.

Service was fast but not attentive. They missed a plate for me and did not realise it. Nothing to shout out about.

One of the best restaurant known as a bit of Thai and a bit of Chinese food combination. The bee hon crab was good but not the best. Steamed soon hock fish was fresh and meaty. The taste of stuffed chicken wings and kangkung balaciam were above average, and bbq pork belly was fantastic. Must try their chili crab, 800 gram for $56 only. Pork satay was well marinated and balanced in taste. No matter how full your stomach is, you still must try theit coconut ice cream dessert. The price was very reasonable, only about $38 per head, value for money indeed! Only problem is they have only few car park lots in front of the restaurant being shared by one row of restaurants. Luckily the boss of the restaurant asked us to parallel park while he stayed outside to watch guard the car, very impressive, thumbs up for him.
