Super mediocre sushi. As an American from CO, I expected Singapore’s sushi to be way better than from my land locked state. Unfortunately, I found it wasn’t even as good as our moderately priced place that we go to at home.

First visit here on a weekday, just after their opening hour.
The chefs working behind the counter by the door saw me when I entered. However, they went back to their tasks and I was left standing for a while before a waitress popped her head out.
Food was served promptly after ordering.
My friend accidentally spilled soy sauce onto her bag. A waitress nearby quickly passed us extra serviette and wet towel.
Sushi served wasn’t as fresh as those I had at Sushiro! They were simply ok which was disappointing, given Tomi’s price.

Share with ebaribardy a secret. Tomi is my go to quick fix when I have a craving for Japanese sushi and sashimi…. And ERM… Sake too! Food and drinks affordable prep and of good quality. To bear in mind same rules apply regarding shipment of seafood if you are the kind really particular that it’s as fresh as it gets… Straight from Port to chef to table.

    Pricy but worth it.
I like their tempura and cold noodle especially.
    Tempura is professionally cooked.
Tamagoyaki, Japanese thick omelette is creamy like using butter, tasty.
With friendly service, we were able to enjoy our meal there aft stay-home period.

The quality of service and some o their dishes we ordered had dropped comparing the last time, normally tasty though. Hope the quality keep stable anytime. That’s the big reason I don’t feel like rating minus one star, not five.

A sushi restaurant in Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture. Just like in Japan, you can eat fresh fish. It seems that fresh fish is airlifted from Niigata. The price is also reasonable.

Went to the restaurant near closing time at 1.45pm, and was told that last order is 2pm and would have to finish eating by 2.30pm — that we understood perfectly.

However, the attending staff was grumpy and hurried.

Had not browsed the menu for more than 3 minutes and they wanted to take order — that we understood.

At 2.07pm when we were halfway through our meal, the same staff hurriedly came to ask for the bill. This was the part that ticked me off because I think it is rude to ask for payment while we are eating halfway – not japanese-like in service attitude at all, especially when we were not even taking our own sweet time to eat. We were in and out of the restaurant in less than 30minutes (left before 2.15pm), having gobbled down our food really fast. We felt like we were rushed through the whole meal; as though we were eating fast food in a restaurant.

Food-wise quality is okay, portions are okay. Fish isn’t so fresh today – maybe it is Friday? Prefer the branch at katong with better service and food quality.

One (if not the most) authentic and relatively affordable Japanese restaurants you can eat in Singapore. Go for the lunch set! Even though place is always crowded and can be noisy, the quality of the food is well worth the visit.

But can be quite pricey for ala carte items.

Great nabeyaki udon, chirashi bowl was pretty normal but can’t complain at this price point. Service was just normal.

  25. Avatar photo

A very traditional service with even a Japanese speaking staff, the menu is extensive but ingredients are well sourced. Compared to nearby Japanese restaurants the price feels more reasonable with filling portions. Chirashidon can probably be better elsewhere.

Have been a fan of both branches for some time but met with a rude and unhelpful service staff today – they close for lunch at 230pm and when I arrived at 140 they had just let a couple in right before me. But when I asked for a table for my family with kids, another male waiter who came from the cashier immediately said “no table” without even looking inside the restaurant where I saw an empty table for 6pax just waiting to be cleared. We were so put off we decided to just eat next door instead.

Needed to have some good sushi and ended up at Tomi Sushi at Millenia Walk. The sushi set was delicious though a tad filling. I had the set with karaage which was really juicy, a good size, and well fried. So happy to be sushi-filled.

The place is really crowded at 12pm but by the time 1pm hits, most of the working crowd clears and then you can eat in relative quiet. The interior is a little clinical and basic but the food is guaranteed to hit the right happy spots.

    Finally tried @tomisushi_singapore

They are having some promotion for all things 𝖀𝖓𝖆𝖌𝖎!

Unagi lovers will love it! The Unagi don ($20) and rolls were going at around $10 to $15.

My favourite was their Soft Shell Crab roll! The fillings were very generous and it was super crispy without being overly oily. Slightly sweet and umami too . No pic cause I was seated too far from the roll .

Sashi was thick slices but it is pretty standard quality and quantity at its price point of $14 to $16 for salmon and tuna respectively.

Great service from the crew too. Will definitely visit again.

We have been visiting this outlet for quite a long time and have always had a pleasant experience here, until today when we visited and was bluntly informed that there are no seats to accommodate our preferred seating arrangement, which was understandable due to the safe distance measurement, however, what offended me greatly was the unpleasant attitude of one service staff (middle aged lady wearing black frame glasses) who was impatient in her communication with us to sort out our arrangements, and not only that, I also witnessed her walking up to her colleague to talk about us behind our backs, complaining to her colleague right in front of us. While she was at it, I was looking at her doing it and so when she turned back and she saw me looking at her. Not only was she not apologetic, when she was serving the other table that I was not seated at, she continued to give a nonchalant and unfriendly attitude. Utterly disappointed by the poor service behaviour of this staff. We do not expect her to understand why we had our considerations for our preferred seating arrangement, but her rude behaviour was really uncalled for, I’m extremely disgusted by her rudeness and audacity to speak ill of the customers almost immediately after she ushered us to the seats. What a shame.

Honestly, it’s one of the best sushi restaurant in Singapore.
The environment there is clean and when I went there it was quite quiet (which is good). The food are pricy, around Sushi Tei and Itacho Sushi pricing and some menu are more expensive, but it really does worth every single cent. The quality and the freshness of the food are so damn good. They even have 2 different soy sauce for sushi and sashimi, and yes it makes a huge difference. I would totally recommend this place to anyone who love sushi.

Food quality wise is good with wide selection of food and fresh sushi. Sake also taste excellent with sushi
Chawanmushi has alot of ingredients in it and taste great.

But for service wise is kind of lacking, there is not enough servers around in the shop so I even had to get my own soy sauce. Price for discounted items was also not properly reflected in the final bill.
But a plus point is that appietizer was served for my drink at the end.

Really enjoyed the experience there. Service staffs are superb. We did not have any reservations but was greeted with a smile and he showed us to a huge table, comfortable for 2 adults and two active boys. He asked if the kids wanted warm water to whom we politely declined. He gave the kids different cups due to their age difference. Very thoughtful. My boys had their first sushi experience there and they loved every dish. It’s their first time having muguro Maki and California handroll. I’m impressed with their communication too. Three staffs assured us that the steamed egg is coming and sorry for the delay. It arrived piping hot and it is the most delicious steamed egg, I have ever eaten.

Will be back, definitely! Thank you to all the staffs who attended to us!

Heard of good things from this chain and never tried. Recently during a staycation at Pan Pacific, we took a walk to the Nihon Street outlet at Millennia Walk and had a very good Sushi lunch there.

In general, Sushi is best dominated by Itacho in the mass market whereas if you can have deep pockets of $300 and above per head, there are the Michelin stars. Tomi has something better than Itacho and rivals some of the other hotel quality Japanese restaurants while still keeping freshly made Sushi affordable. We ordered two lunch sets that are Sushi plus tempura or chicken karage at $45 and $28 respectively. That’s more than Itacho but at a standard that is higher too, especially the quality of its Sushi.

We were very satisfied and would go there again for sure. Just one day before we went to a nearby five star hotel and paid $90 for one Sushi lunch set that was way inferior to that of Tomi’s although we were served by waitresses dressed in kimonos.

We went in at 1.30pm for lunch I think it was close to the closing time so they had us seated at the counter seat.

I order the salmon nigiri set lunch, the ingredients were all fresh, taste was ok but I feel that it was not as good as previously (went to Novena outlet). Also they gave me I think it was ranch sauce for the salad but I couldn’t take the taste so I request for sesame sauce.

I think due to the timing, it was abit of a rush to order eat and to get out of the restaurant and so I guess the service was a little less and rush.

This is certainly one of the better Japanese restaurants in Singapore, better than those bigger establishments such as Sushi Tei and Ichban Sushi. Price is much pricey though but you are getting good quality and well presentation dishes on plates, just like what you will find in Japan. Sashimi are thickly sliced. I like the Zaru soba for its chewy texture unlike most others. Highly recommended.

First time eating at Tomi Sushi, this is simply one of the best sushi I have ever had in Singapore, considering its price and quality. We ordered the higawari set (日替わりセット) and signature sushi set, both came with great portion and decent varieties of sushi.
    Will definitely come back again.

Fabulous place for sashimi and sushi. Has good sets as well. Sushi is done right – the Japanese way which is a decent slice of fish with a small ball of rice. And also done right so that the fish doesn’t just fall off the rice. Good soba as well.

First time dining here, menu seemed promising, but food was disappointing when served. Ordered assorted sashimi ($26 for 6 slices) and maguro sushi – the fish slices were paltry, and not the freshest. Sushi were tiny too, and the gunkan and maki sushi were poorly, amateurishly wrapped. Only positive point was that the food was served very quickly. I’d rather they spend a little more time on prepping the sushi with more care than trying to be a fast food joint. Definitely won’t return.

Our usual dinner conundrum led us to this place, and it was such a serendipitous find! We had the Kaiseki set (~$70 nett each), and everything tastes awesome. Special highlight goes to the oh-so-fresh mekajiki sashimi. We had to order extra slices before we could officially end off an extremely satisfying meal. Definitely coming back again!

And we’re back on 15 Oct 2022! It’s the autumn menu and special mention goes to the amazing seasonal grilled fish that comes, rightfully so but probably not intentional, as the finale dish.

If you’re looking for authentic sushi, this is the place!!! They are attentive to the detail, with freshly grounded fresh wasabi to soya sauce just for sushi and wasabi! We ordered the fish of the day which is the red sea bream also known as ‘golden eyes’ it tastes fresh and firm, none of the strong fishy taste. Also got the mixsushi plate, the eel and scallop was soo soft. The uni is pretty good as well! Definitely will return again, the only downside is that the interior is not that impressive abit plain

Another lucky find along Millenia’s famed Japanese Street. They opens at 5.30pm EXACTLY unlike its neighbors.

Ambience is authentic Japanese – subtle, pine colored and understated. Service is equally Japanese – as it should be. Ocha topped up endlessly without being prompted.

And of course the food is superbly authentic. Sushi is freshly prepared. Soft shell crabs perfect with the right amount of flesh still visible. Cold soba is fresh and unique. Ice cream completed our dinner experience.

Salmon sashimi was VERY FRESH! Glad the same high standards of food as in their Novena branch. We also ordered the Gindara set and soft shell crab, very happy with both. The Whisky Highball Ginger Ale High cocktail was really refreshing, and the Ume Chuhai drink hit the right amount of sweetness for us. Just that… Our server kept pacing restlessly back and forth by our table – it was rather distracting. And – It felt like eating at a hawker center where the staff is constantly looking at your table, ready to snatch away dishes even if you’re still holding your chopsticks over them!!! But yeah, food is so good we’ll definitely come back here again! Hope sophistication of the service improves…
