Food was still the same and service was quite fast; not a poor choice for lunch, but might want to ensure that you have enough lunch time to cater for waits for food when the crowd comes in. Sushi-wise, the rice in the nigiri sushi is much lesser now compared to the last time I dined at another Sakae Sushi outlet. A relatively simple meal for two without any beef or seafood came very close to $50 without membership discounts. In a nutshell, expect to spend about $25 per person to have a filling meal with just the economical items.

Generous portion and sashimi taste good too. Not much queue so you doesn’t have to wait too long at Bishan Junction 8 outlet. However, the waiting for your order can be quite long (longer if you are really hungry ) so if you think you can wait for it, you can definitely try it. …

80% of our dishes did not seem fresh. ordered a pricey 19.99 chirashi don with high hopes to fulfill a sashimi craving, but the dish arrived looking rather unappetizing, with the flavour following suit. it was dull in colors, sashimi pieces like the salmon were dull orangey instead of a fresh pink, there was too much gingers mixed in (totally unnecessary as japanese gingers are meant for palette cleansing, thus overpowering the entire dish), and portion was measley. a separate order of ikura did not seem fresh as well, flavour did not burst as refreshingly as other ones i’ve had. miso soup was just salty, as if it was just cheap miso paste and added an abundance of it. only thing i can credit is the salmon rolls with japanese mayo which was fresh – came off the conveyor belt. adding on, place was stuffy and warm. would never revisit.

I haven’t been to a Sakae sushi restaurant for quite some time and I am quite disappointed with the food and value for the price. The yakiniku don was dry and the beef slices were not fantastic. The price for 2 pieces of salmon mentaiko sushi was a staggering $8+. Overall, it wasn’t an enjoyable experience for about $50 spent. I wouldn’t be back again.

Understand that this chain has a fast sushi heritage but prices are not “fast”. The radish condiment that came with the tempura had gone bad. Don’t understand why they serve golf ball size wasabi paste (not real one) with every dish. Is it to mask something by over dose of burn?

I came here for dinner with my parents.

Ordered their Sakae Tempura Cold Soba Noodles. The tempura was not bad, slightly crispy and had prawns, eggplant, Crabstick, enoki mushroom and some other ingredients which I forgot.

My parents got the Sakae Tendon which also came with the same tempura but with the addition of miso soup.
Somehow I was quite disappointed that the cold Soba did not come with miso soup…

Also ordered their Salmon Karaage which were okay and their California Temaki which was good!

Roboto sushi or conveyor belt sushi, we would never come to it with high expectations. As long as the raw stuffs are fresh enough to be consumable and the mix of choices is reasonable, we should gladly accept it as the low prices mean we really cannot ask for something spectacular. However, i was just astonished when the waitress told me there is tuna sashimi or sushi for the day. Roboto sushi still need to have some real Japanese raw fish sushi or sashimi. If there is no uni, no white fish like Aji, no Hamachi (i don’t expect that) and not even tuna; just salmon only. That cannot be accepted.

The popular price is good for ordinary consumption. The place is a bit narrow, but their New Year’s Japanese sashimi is a Chinese so-called salmon sashimi. I don’t mind if it’s a little more expensive to eat for a year, everyone has to make a fortune and get a lot of money. Don’t copy it and try it out. I’m sorry, it’s just my personal opinion.

Sakae Sushi started out as the default place to go for staple Japanese cuisine. In its early years, it made excellent progress with outlets opening up at almost every corner of the island, but as the years went on, the standard dropped especially with strong competition like Ichiban, Sushi Tei, sushi express etc, gaining popularity and keeping standards high. Many sakae branches have since closed or downsized, and the menu revamped repeatedly with smaller portions and elevated prices as the driving force. Simple servings like Miso soup tasted like someone had rinsed a table cloth and used the water to concoct the soup base; brown rice/green tea used to be fragrant but now barely has any taste. Getting a table at Sakae used to be a long wait but now try going to any of the existing branches during peak dining hours and a table will be waiting for you instead. So sad that I have lost a good place to dine in.

We chose this as there were not a queue in front of this restaurant, well, there is a reason there’s no queue. Although no queue, the restaurant were about 80% full. That already made the waitress cannot handle the job. Our order was attended 5 mins after ordering on the ipad, thought it should already passed onto kitchen but not. Then we waited another at least 10mins to for the first portion of the sushi. Rice was not sashimi sushi, so soft and loose. Size is small, soybean sauce sounds like to cooking sauce but not for sushi as it’s so dark and salty. The $11 salad was so small with half avocado. The sushi plate was colorful and looks a kind messy sounds like from a third tier of American sushi bar. I noticed even all are waiting the food, the sushi chef even come out once to pack the plates which was a waitress job, who seems merely just finish an indifference job. Finally, waitress apologized for kept us waiting so long, but she just say so for the sake to say so. All in all, not worth to come.
