Old hawker centre; food is not bad & inexpensive too. Too bad there are too many birds flying around and nibbling on leftover food.
Surprisingly, quite a handful Malay’s food stalls available there, selling delicious,tasty and reasonable price halal food. Plenty seats and easy to get parking space. One star less, facilities quite run down. Need a full facelift to improve the ambient for comfort.
Not too crowded during lunch hour on a weekday, and the hawker is pretty spacious. However, not many stalls are open. But for the stalls that are open, queues move relatively quickly. It’s slated to be demolished by the end of 2021 though.
A clean, nice and comfortable place to have lunch if reach there before 1145hrs. Price for foods and drink is reasonable. Full of parking lots for drivers. It is also quite convenient if taking public transport there.
One of my favourite hawker centres, not very crowded in a neighbourhood that oozes old world charm. This is one of two hawker centres at Tanglin Halt (the other is the where the famous laksa, duck noodles and peanut pancake stalls are). My go-to at this one is the dessert stall where most items go for $1 (add a mere 10 cents for takeaway). It is run by a friendly and efficient husband and wife duo. Prices have been kept at that price for years. Behind the dessert stall is a Chinese bee hoon stall that only opens for a few hours in the early morning. They sell nasi lemak on weekends only. The rice is fantastic. Another stall worth mentioning is the hainanese western food stall which sells a mean chicken cutlet.p

We came here for just one thing – thunder tea rice. Hakka specialty. The Yong Tau Foo here are also splendid.
This hawker centre is situated in the Commonwealth housing estate one of the oldest HDB estates. Muslim, Indian and of course Chinese foods are easily available till midnight. Situated nearby the Commonwealth MRT station it is easily reached.
Absolutely no craving for Jing Shu Shi Curry Rice. Not worth my 15min Q. Pork chop is tasty but more like Pork chop biscuit. Can’t taste the pork. The killer for me is curry and lady finger are sweet. Got Incle to add Assam curry, hoping it will be better. Nope. It was diluted.

Nice old Singapore food centre with new local food. Will be missed by many when they pull the place down
There are 2 food centers separated by a road. Both offers some very hoos hawker fare. Laksa, chicken rice, fosh ball noodle just to name a few. As all Singaporeans do, just follow the longest queue. Won’t go wrong. And the queue time is not long, experience from week day lunch time.

Used to have lots of good food but nowadays, not many stall are opened even though I was there during lunch time. Understand that this food centre will be closing soon and demolished to make way for new development.

Tried the new fish soup stall just opened not too long ago. Ordered item 1 on the menu, soup tasted good but I think too much milk was added. Minced meat flavour is unique and tasty. The fish was deep fried on the spot and it tasted fresh, had to wait and extra 2 mins because fish was deep fried on the spot. Fish is breaded fish and tasted like fish and chips off a western stall.

The fish soup and fried fish are really nice. For those who love soup, you must try their fish soup.
The old food centre was demolish some time back,with the new design,the new food centre is at the original location but it is no more stuffy again. The roasted chicken rice is long queue during weekday lunch hour. Good food with reasonable price serving the neighbourhood. As the is a historic living area, you will see many old folks are around. But it is not usually crowded except for weekday lunch hour. Ample parking space and few coffee shops around for other choice of food.

Laksa. Expect Long Q n early closing hours. Not the Katong Laksa type so do not expect nutty n dried shrimps taste. I tasted this laksa in the 70s cooked by two sisters at PBS Koon Seng Rd Canteen. The two elderly sisters cooking skills is superb. The other sister is good at Dessert.

The food centre has three hexagonal buildings combined into one. It feels quite spacious.
I have only tried the Hakka Thunder Tea rice. It has quite a long queue during lunch – but I am personally satisfied with it! Next to this stall also sell desserts at $1.00, which I’m planning to try another visit.
Nearby this food centre, there’s a small museum/gallery related to Queenstown and also an old-school bakery. It is also quite near to the Tanglin Halt Market food section.
Highly recommend the Yong Tau Foo and Thunder Tea rice at Hawker Center. Try it.

I just have western food at this No.1 western food stall. The chicken cutlet is so far i tasted the best.
We decided to explore Tanglin Halt Food Centre and I tried the Bak Chor Mee that was served with a Quail egg. It was pretty pricey and it did pack a bit of a punch. It was a waste that the Western food stall that I was looking forward to try from is closed(tuesday).
Special mention to the HK Bakery that their Char Siew pastry is really quite good. Their Charcoal egg tart was a bit of a novelty.. nothing special.
Good variety of stalls but mostly closed by early afternoon on a weekend. Probably due to the estate going enbloc and such.

Very old hawker center with very good old hawker foods. Nowadays this place is quiet. When I was young, this hawker center was one of the busiest hawker center in Singapore. The original popular western food stall is no longer around. The current is not as good as the original one but still good. The dessert shop stall facing coffee shop is good. Has been around for long long time. Many other good food there depending on your taste. Do check this place out if you are a foodie.
Four star for nostalgia. Only the market, coffee shop next to market still operating till spring 2024. The foodcourt with a handful of shop that can survives with some customer still operating. The ruyi vegetarian, chicken rice, Longton, dessert, western, haha rice and few Muslim stall. Evening will only a few stall operating.
Not many stalls open but at least 4 great stalls: Aw’s Signature for Bak Chor Mee; Lontong Sedap for Lontong; Alimah’s Mee Rebus; and a one and only local dessert stall that sells Red Ruby ice dessert.

The food is cheap and worth it especially the desert stall which sells a good portion of chendol for just $1 and the food there is overall worth if for the price and the food there is quite diverse so you won’t get bored of eating there

Tanglin Halt and it’s lush greenery!
The name is really from Tanglin Road, which used to extend all the way to Queensway before the late 1940s. In the past, the trains would “halt” at Archipelago Brewery, (now Anchorpoint and IKEA) and so the name “Tanglin Halt” was given.
Being one of the earliest housing estates outside the city center, the first early 60’s houses were 3 Story buildings and later in 1962 the famous 10 story Flats known as ‘chup lau chu’ built and in 1967 featured at our bank notes.
There are actually 2 food centers. The Tanglin Halt Food Centre, also referred to as Commonwealth Drive Food Centre, is consisting of a unique 3 hexagonal-shape structure with wide spaces between tables.
Walking along the Rail corridor a small lane connects directly to Tangling Halt and it is very refreshing to see this relatively small houses surrounded by lush greenery. Walk down memory lane as long as it still exists.
I love the char siew rice here. Don’t forget to get the sambal, it tastes so good.
6/2018 Update: still good, with food around the clock. Still like the malay muslim food in the mornings with something from Sky coffee stall. Lots of choice for dinner too.

I’m floored by the many old flavours done well! Especially No1 Western Food, and 东记chicken rice.. absolutely stunning hawker food! It’s a Must to try all the dishes that No1 offers, especially the chicken cutlet and pork chop. Both were well seasoned and meat were so tender. It’s also a must to have the charsiew sauce from 东记! Please ask from the friendly owners. The smokiness and flavour is out of this world! Goes very well with the fragrant chicken rice, as well as a dip for the meat. Always spot the ones with a snake q, can never go wrong. Sorry no picts of the chicken rice from 东记 cos we had to tabao since our tummies were filled up by the western food

Tanglin Halt Food Centre closest station is from Commonwealth MRT. It has one wet market and joined to it is a hawker centre. This hawker centre has the famous claypot curry chicken, with a choice of wings or drums. The curry is the type that is less spicy but rich in flavour. Further up fifty metres there is another bigger hawker centre that is crowded but enough seats for everyone. Both hawker centres are crowded during lunch hours and there are enough parking space for those that drive. Just a few steps away is a small humble coffee shop that is always packed without seats.
Sad it is going to be demolished. Hawker centre in a nice neighborhood. Carrot cake is delicious. Lontong, gula melaka agar agar is delicious.

This place has is nicely spaced out seating arrangements which is a good thing. Food wise, if are like me prefer healtier options: fish soup and Hakka Thunder Tea are good (has good reviews by media too). The dessert is priced lower compared to places of this kind, and taste good too.

Nice n good economic rice. Must try it’s fried pork chop. It is crispy n delicious. Dessert , Cheng teng taste mildly with ginger. Of course , got others like red bean, green bean dessert soup. Traditional Hakka thunder rice with Yong taufu. Healthy n tasty herb cane with this authentic cuisine.
Place where I gew up. Food is really good. One stall one ‘cannot miss’ is the Hainanese Western Food, which opens only at night. You’ll find a long queue even if it’s late at night!
Small hawkers center but quite a lot of tasty food stalls. Porridge, kopi, bak chor mee, laksa etc.
Good selection of food. Famous for its chicken rice and wonton noodles. Many office workers from the nearby offices will be there for their lunch, so be prepared for a queue when you arrive. Most of the Muslim food stalls are closed for the fasting month, so please take note.

Probably one of the oldest hawker centres in Singapore. Very airy in the way it is laid out. You can savour traditional food of multi racial origins cooked on demand and on location. A few stalls are in fact quite famous with patrons from all over Singapore in the perpetual queues.
I lived in the block next to this hawker centre from 1964 to 1990s and witnessed its construction.
I may be wrong but I think this was the hawker centre that had Singapore’s first Western food stall selling steaks, pork and chicken chops served with beans and fries. I think this might also be the hawker centre that had Singapore’s first ice kacang stall.
Tong Kee’s Chicken Rice is the Best in Singapore! Formerly from Margaret Drive. The Rice,Chicken,Gravy,Soup,Chilli,Egg and Char Siew all Super Nice!!!!!!!
Depending on whether you going for lunch or dinner, not all stalls open. For dinner hardly anywhere is open, and for lunch there’s not the hustle and bustle anymore as I think many of the stalls are moving out because Tanglin Halt food centre will be closed for redevelopment in the near future.
Still a few decent places here though, worth taking a walk around the surrounding area as there is a wet market, another small food market, and some other food stalls in the surrounding blocks.
Food court with few places to choice your favourite food Indian Food, Malay or Chinese available at this place… But not to late when evening… Or you will nit get food as you need… …

Went there to try the famous lontong but stall was closed until end September. Try the next door soto n mee rebus wasn’t up to standard.
Was having breakfast there this morning and the Tian Xiang wantan mee taste awesome. Love the slow pace old school environment. The price of food there is very reasonable averagely starting from $3 however I noticed that the price of drinks are on the high side. I ordered the ice kopi from the drink stall facing the durian stall and it was served in a small size plastic cup full of ice and the quantity of ice is more than the coffee itself and it cost $1.40. Maybe someone can give it a try and give some comments too. Apart from that, the place is nice and cosy.
New carrot cake shop that uses homemade carrot cake. Portions are generous with lots of garlic and chye poh. Hidden gem
The thunder rice queue is crazy. Haven’t tried but the fried fish noodle soup here is a hidden gem. Love the taste of the broth and the generous serving. Wouldn’t want to share else the queue gets crazy but loving it.

A heritage HDB hawker centre having some good Malay food at 6pm. Not many stalls are open at 5pm to 7pm. No crowd.
Old hawker centre with good variety of good old hawker food and reasonable prices.
My favourite fish noodle soup stall, freshly fried fish that’s breaded, unusual. Broth is flavourful, comes with a tad mroe stuff compared to your usual fish soup places. Some bak chor, tomatoes, lettuce, luffa, and tofu.
Good place for Singaporean hawker fare. Can get really crowded. A few items that one should try includes the laksa, fried beehoon and pancakes. Theres also a wanton mee stall that opens only in the evening.
Good local hawker food at reasonable price. It’s also hv Michelin rated hawker food.

Duck dry noodles was average, maybe the 鹼水味 too heavy in yellow noodles for me. Peanut pancake was good, not too sweet. Red bean flavor pancake was good too. Yam flavor sold out
We wanted to visit the Tanglin Halt Food Centre one last time before it’s completely demolished……many stalls were already closed.
This could be the very last time to have a meal here….brought back a lot of memories for us too.

Hakka Lei Cha is awesome!! Their fried Yong Tau Foo is full of tasty meat.

Great time to enjoy old time favourite food. Sad that this place will be closed and demolished. Hope it’s just upgrading and not total disappearance.

My favourite place for comfort food. The Hokkien mee and Char Kway Teow are the best. The stall has been around for as long as the estate. The Loi cha stall….very authentic. Hawkers are friendly and patient. Love this place. Very nostalgic Singaporean feeling.
There’s few Muslims stall there.A stall selling nasi lemak for $3 and dishes like lontong,mee siam,soto and mee rebus at $2.50.My verdict nice and cheap..husband and wife stall.near kopitiam shop,a Muslim chicken rice stall.reasonable price $3.50..a quiet place to have your lunch..and dinner.

Not many stall but recommend the wanton mee stall , long queue but is fast in serving..no worry. If want to try can come early moring.

Super cheap and good food. Market is relatively spacious and airy with plenty of seats, though it can get a bit crowded during weekday lunchtime. Lots of parking space as well.
Must tries for me are the Margaret Drive Chicken Rice and the dessert stall with prices from a different era. The Thunder Tea Rice also had a healthy queue though that’s not my thing.
Generally, the food prices here are reasonable. Place usually packed during lunch hours. Tables are not cleaned up as quickly as possible – often seeing pigeons and other birds eating the leftovers too.

This place, sad to say, is to say the least, moribund…It has certainly seen better days. There used to be much hype about the place, but no more! Methinks, the mediocre, greedy and unhygienic punks have taken over most of the stalls, thus giving the place bad vibes…There used to be an illustrious stall selling “yew chia kuey”. Wow! The aroma could be scented from some distance away… But all that is in the past! Very sad!
This is where my friends and I used to go after school (Tanglin Technical Sec Sch) during my secondary school days (1987-1990). Our favourite stalls are the dessert, nasi ayam and mamak mee goreng/nasi goreng stalls. Went there to reminisce those times before this gem will be demolished, gone…thanks to developments
The food is… local. It is not tasty for most of the stall. Seats are very inefficient, while the place is quite big and not crowded, its hard to find a table.

Has got the cheapest dessert in town, $1 green bean soup, tau suan and most valued is the lotus seeds at only $2 compared to Tampines 139 market selling at $3.80 for same sized bowl!

Tanglin Halt and it’s lush greenery!
The name is really from Tanglin Road, which used to extend all the way to Queensway before the late 1940s. In the past, the trains would “halt” at Archipelago Brewery, (now Anchorpoint and IKEA) and so the name “Tanglin Halt” was given.
Being one of the earliest housing estates outside the city center, the first early 60’s houses were 3 Story buildings and later in 1962 the famous 10 story Flats known as ‘chup lau chu’ built and in 1967 featured at our bank notes.
There are actually 2 food centers. The Tanglin Halt Food Centre, also referred to as Commonwealth Drive Food Centre, is consisting of a unique 3 hexagonal-shape structure with wide spaces between tables.
Walking along the Rail corridor a small lane connects directly to Tangling Halt and it is very refreshing to see this relatively small houses surrounded by lush greenery. Walk down memory lane as long as it still exists.
Favourite local dish after a walk by the green corridor. Famous for western food.
