My husband and I just visited Summer Hill for the second time. Our first visit was several years ago because its quite a distance from our home, but after seeing the most recent menu I knew we needed to return. I was happy to find out that the excellent focus on customer service has remained the same. On our first visit I emailed to inquire about the pork collar dish that I wanted to try, and was told that they were removing it from the menu, but would reserve me a portion and prepare it for me anyway, which really impressed me. And the pork collar, which I see is now back on the menu, was amazing, tender and juicy with a delicious sauce.

This visit I was determined to try the truffled ham and brie sandwich, so again emailed ahead to check if it was available at dinner. The reply was prompt and offered to reserve me a portion so that I wouldn’t be disappointed, once again impressing me with their proactive and thoughtful approach. We started with the butternut pumpkin, which was very tasty when eaten with the tangy yuzu aioli. And the sandwich was fantastic, a delicious, calorie-worthy indulgence for sure. The bread was soft, the truffle paste generous, the brie and bechamel very rich, and the cherry jam was my favourite part, a stroke of genius and the perfect sweet compliment to this very savoury and salty dish. And I loved the duck fat fries, which though not particularly crispy were warm and fluffy and full of flavour. Even the accompanying salad was great!

My husband enjoyed his pasta, and we shared a cherry tart for dessert, which was absolutely divine! The sweet, soft almond frangipane and generous amount of tart cherries paired perfectly together, and the yummy chantilly cream rounded this dessert out perfectly. Its tough to find a good cherry tart in Singapore, and this one is one of the best I’ve had. In retrospect we should have gotten two desserts, just to try a second one, but were too full from the generous main courses we had.

The warm and thoughtful service continued throughout our dinner, our server was friendly and helpful, and her recommendation of the cherry tart for dessert spot on. We enjoyed the casual outdoor garden atmosphere, and will be making the journey again for more dinners (and desserts)!

About every so often we like to try someplace new and Summer Hill popped up on my calendar for today so we tried it out.
This little spot is in the Sunset Way complex along with other eateries like a fishhead curry place, a seafood place and a Korean food restaurant so it fits right in with its own niche of western fare as something different.

We arrived on a Saturday morning just as they were opening at 11:30 a.m. and asked how it works here. A friendly employee explained we could sit anywhere outside at their wooden tables after grabbing a clipboard menu from the hook on the pillar out there. We needed to peruse the menu and fill out the order on a menu selection page and turn it back inside to them at the order counter.
Okay. Decided on a sandwich, a croissant, coffees and a chocolate dessert. Turned in our order and exactly 15 minutes later we were brought one mocha and one latte, both vaguely warm and while pleasant, the coffee was a little nondescript. At least it didn’t taste burnt like at some international coffee chains we know. Oh, and the tiny croissant was nicely warmed up, flaky and tender.
Maybe 5 minutes later the Croque Monsieur sandwich arrived. It was hot and perfectly toasty, melted with cheese, made with good ham and on white bread. Very nice. Later the chocolate tart arrived and it was also very tasty: a semisweet, smoothly indulgent slab of chocolate worship on a plain plate, accompanied by a fluffy dollop of meringue-ish whipped cream on the side.

Summer Hill is a decent spot for a casual meal, complete with side table to grab your own water, utensils, napkins and plates as needed. No gst and no service fees included in menu pricing, according to their clipboard printouts, so we did tip the staff

Would I return? Yes, if I’m in the area again I definitely would. It is nice to see a smiling face and even better to be in a not so touristy area where local people gather for meals and conversation in a normal neighborhood setting as opposed to the glitz and glam of crazy busy spots such as along Orchard Road. A nice change of pace is Summer Hill, where I can recommend you buy a newspaper at the supermarket across the way and install yourself at their tables under the fans so you can just relax.

Good french food here (still) after moving to Orchard. Decent wine list and the cocktail I had was decent. Service is good too – also no change. The veal chop is no longer on the menu but the pork chop is worth a try. Also had the sole fish which was a good surprise. Chocolate sundae was nice too! Overall still worth coming back though prices have gone up.

Been to the one at sunset a while ago and friend suggested trying this again as it’s a new location.
The fried chicken was good. It was well marinated. Could not be able to tell if it’s frozen chicken or not.
Wagyu was not too bad too.
Fish was kinda disappointment, as it has a strong fishy taste
The chocolate tart’s tart was horrible.
    Coffee was bad, very bland.
Service was not so good too, staff is not rude but just felt that we aren’t so welcome.
So worth coming for the chicken only.

Mediocre food and service, so normal I have nothing good or bad to talk about. Let’s just say there are better restaurants to support and spend your money on during these difficult times lol. (the best dish was the dessert)

Unpretentious, rustic French food, served with panache. I really enjoyed the roast chicken, roast pork collar with mustard and the quiche a la Christina. The standout dish for me was the quiche. I’m a big quiche person and I think this one is the best I’ve had in Singapore. I’ll be back to try the rest of their baked goods!

Had a 12 person long table with business associates and colleagues on a Friday..the food is so delicious and their famous spiced chicken is really so good I could have it as a dish for days! I also like the veal.chop and the squared potatoes with duck fut as appetiser as well as the Brussels sprouts as sides! My best favourite is the pistachio creme brulee! The taste is unique and the creme is really unusual but to die for! I will definitely be back with family and friends. Kudos to chef !

The star of the place was definitely the roast chicken as well their waiter serving us who just made the whole experience so much better than it could have been!
Their fries cooked with duck fats were definitely yumz but if you’re like me and prefer your fries crispy, then make sure you tuck into them quickly once they arrive!
The desserts were only so-so but if you must, try the cherry tart and ask if they have a dessert that’s off the menu for the day.
A little difficult to find the place if you’re using the Google map like me and driving there, but ultimately, if you’re driving, park at the orchard hotel carpark and head over to the shopping arcade next door.

The dishes and cooking were generally disappointing. The lobster meat for the lobster bisque pot pie was soft and undercooked. The potato in the potato gratin was also undercooked, and had the texture of apple slices. The fried chicken lacked flavour and was not crispy. The other dishes, apart from the desserts, also lacked flavour – veal chop (too hard), pork belly porchetta, beef bourguignon, alfredo, eggplant, cauliflower, and mashed potato. The desserts were a contrast and were good. Enjoyed the chocolate tart, stout cake (could taste the alcohol), and the cherry tart.
Wasn’t too impressed with the sandwich from an earlier visit.

Small menu with 3 mainstays and 2 changing specialties with all food excellently prepared, at the right consistence and not dry; we had the roost chicken and the pork collar with mustard sauce. There are several other good eateries around if you find the choice too limited. Really great choice of music. Seating indoors is limited to 2 tables with 4 seats, the rest is outdoors, with ceiling fans. Wine far too expensive and all of the beer is sweet (while only 2 types available during our visit); stick with the non-alcoholic drinks and get your fix around the corner at Stickies.

We were rather disappointed with the wagyu beef bourguignon this evening. The beef was tough with the ends impossible to chew. It was nothing like the photos that shows a fair amount of fat. It was overly salty masking whatever taste of the beef. For $130 we expected a nicer piece of beef. Fortunately the rest of the dishes were great.

    Went for lunch with family.
    It’s ok but nothing special.

The spicy cauliflower and cherry tart are good.
The impossible CB pasta and pumpkin soup are so so, the creamy Mussels Normandy is a tad too salty.
Give the duck fat fries a miss. My wife and daughter, who are big fan of fries, did not even finish it.

Food is nothing spectacular for the price. Rather expensive for a resturant nestled in the hdb neighbourhood. Reasonably cooked. One grilled cheese sandwich and a plate of chicken and a small salad and a beer cost $69. Nothing to shout about. Service is Super slow.

Nice little place for a romantic dinner nestled within a HDB estate. Our party of 4 ordered 2 starters and 4 mains and 4 desserts. The pear and cucumber salad and eggplant salads were delicious. The mains were good too. The chicken pie was large and filling was tasty but the standout was the curried mussels although it could do with a little less salt. The signature roast chicken was moist and tender.
The desserts were good too. The citron tart had just the right balance of tartness/sweetness with hints of salt in the crust. Yums! Chocolate tart was delish too–smooth and light. Service was good and pleasant.

All in all, a rather enjoyable evening with friends!

My first time here with my friends for lunch. Was looking forward to it as read good reviews. Unfortunately the waitress
condescending attitude just spoilt the experience. To the waitress, your lack the knowledge of people, and your lack of concern for your customers’ experience is the cause of your failure. We decided not to have our dessert here and went round to the gelato shop. The waitress in the gelato shop was friendly and helpful and she genuinely care for our experiences.
Read some of the reviews below, it is obvious that the service staff is unprofessional.

Had a lovely dinner there. Loved the snapper fillet. Dessert were really good esp the banana cake. Choc tart was also nice, not too sweet. Key lime tart was lovely but the kids said that the crust was over salted. Oh… and the bread served with the bouillabaisse was a tad burnt. would have given a 5 Stars rating if not for these.

I should say that i really liked this place at its Sunset location. I think the dishes there were good conceptually and well executed . Like comfort food and perfect east meets west vibe. With that said, I think i am adjusting to the new location at Orchard. I also feel based on the food, the team is slightly adjusting to this new location. I think everything is bigger but not necessarily better. The charm is still there but evolving into a bigger space. its still being filled. I still loved the food. I had the fried chicken and was hungry and so anxious that i forgot to allow my camera to eat first. But i did feel it was slightly “off”. Not in a bad way more not as good as i expected. I loved the brussel sprouts, Buttery. a bit different. i love the burnt with Balsamic but these ones were really good too. Oven baked. I think i’ll need to go back and i think it’s worth it to keep going as i am confident the place will continue to evolve in a good way. On the menu, it’s great mix of comfort food from both sides of the world (but not sure how healthy it is). I think i can grow to love the place like Sunset as there is a charm about the place. Didn’t love the parking and this building feels like the designer went to lunch halfway when making it. but don’t let that stop you from going.

Besides the pilsner I loved, I was surprised by the smoked beef and veal. I didn’t touch the sauces provided as I have allergies as I need to know the contents of sauces before I use them. I was surprised how good the meat tasted without any sauces.. probably the best cooked beef and veal I’ve eaten.

Food is quite good but over priced and not very friendly staff.
My family of three did a lunch at this restaurant. Reservations online is much better than doing a phone reservation as calls aren’t always picked up. I called a second time to change my reservation time but had to do so a few times before it was answered. My wife did an online reservation and said that was hassle free.
We ordered the fried veal and the fried chick platter, as recommended by a guy waiter. The meat portion is adequate for us but the fried chicken platter came with tastings of 10 sides. These sides are somewhat too much for us to finish. Perhaps we are not big eaters.
The fried veal is a bone-in, schnitzel like style. The veal was not very tender and my son says the veal is somewhat bland.
The 5-piece fried chicken came in one thigh, two white meat and one wing. They are nicely fried and crisp and the meat retained its juiciness. They should have an option not to include the 10 small portions of sides. So $77 for this 5-piece chicken seems somewhat overpriced.
The guy waiter tending to us was polite and attentive.
However, the lady staff who checked us in was communicating to us politely but more like giving instructions. The first time I made a reservation over phone, a guy staff took my reservation but didn’t seem enthusiastic at all.
Probably not. There are other restaurants I can try.

And thank God they moved to Claymore Connect from Sunset. Now it’s centralised! Beautifully furnished too.

My wife wiped clean the Cream of Pumpkin. I was contemplating to order seconds.

My son loved the Duck Fat Pavè.

We ordered Baguettes but it was too hard and cold.

We had the the Duck & Foie Gras En Croute and the classic Signature Poulet Rôti to share among 4 adults, we enjoyed every bite, simply flavourful.

For desserts we went for Pear and Frangipani tart came with freshly whipped cream- As usual loved it.
The Pistachio Crème Brûlée on the other hand in my opinion should have kept it simple without any nut toppings.

Will definitely be back cause we crave for steamed Mussels and Clams and Duck Confit.

The fried chicken as I was told was French style. Unique taste, rather different from the usual fried chicken that we are familiar with. Taste was not too bad, still prefer the more familiar fried chicken taste.

The side dishes that came along with the fried chicken were amazing and delicious. I can’t really tell what we’re in there (I saw eggplant, cauliflower, mash potato, many other stuffs).

Somehow I enjoyed the side dishes more than the main

By the way, the ambience was chill and the service was friendly.

A small but great-tasting menu. Lovely charred flavour on the roasted eggplants. Meats were nicely done. Ended off our meal with their decadent chocolate tart and key lime pie. Outdoor tables are ventilated by two large fans. Slightly dim though (hence the lack of photos) and can be difficult to get the staff’s attention.

Dinner at Summer Hill off Sunset Way

    Food was really good.

    Spanish Batallé pork collar
hazelnuts, brown butter, creamy mustard sauce, fine beans, mashed potatoes.

The pork collar sauce was divine.

    Roast chicken (1/2 bird)
hormone & antibiotic-free, 24hr brine, herb butter, gravy, today’s sides

    Chicken was so tender.

Duck fat fries were drowned in too much duck fat I think; kind of wet.

An extremely disappointing meal even though I didn’t set my expectations high when I saw the past reviews as well as the price point of the food.

We ordered the duck fat fries and chicken platter for 2. While there was something different for the fries, it wasn’t really fantastic considering the price.

The fried chicken was also a big disappointment. At $77 for the platter for 2, you would expect some decent fried chicken but unfortunately, I think Arnold’s taste better than this. The chicken was still raw at some parts touching the bones. There was none of the usual pleasure that you get from eating fried chicken.

For the sides, I enjoyed the tomatoes with dish and mashed potatoes, even though the mash potatoes tasted similar to powdered mash potatoes.

The service from the staff was great but I wished the food was equally good.

Summer Hill has a welcoming, comfortable atmosphere and great service to complement their absolutely scrumptious, perfectly prepared, unpretentious cuisine. I ordered a delicious, icy lychee martini which was perfect. (So I ordered another!) The roast chicken was heavenly — so moist and very flavorful. The pork, the mussels served with delicious, toasted artisan bread… And those potatoes! We tried a few desserts and all were very good. The warm
pear tart was heavenly. Even the choice of music was fun and perfectly complemented the nice, comfortable atmosphere. Summer Hill is a wonderful oasis on Orchard Road in which to enjoy a great meal and drinks, good conversation with friends and refuel for more shopping!

First time to this restaurant – ordered fried chicken (excellent but drenched in butter), duck fat fries (crispy but oily), Seafood Pot Pie (excellent), Sole à la Grenobloise (good but drenched in butter) and Valrhona Dark Chocolate Tart (DO NOT ORDER! FULL OF SALT). Staff don’t have product knowledge. When we feedback the tart was horrible… like the baker added a tablespoon of salt rather than 1/4 teaspoon, the staff just replied “I dunno, never tried but will inform chef”. Nice restaurant deco, mediocre food (mostly oily) and disinterested staff. They didn’t bill us for the tart (we wouldn’t have paid). Unlikely to revisit.

We like the sea bream most. The fish and the sides blend well together. Roast chicken was quite a disappointment as it was too dry. Duck fat fries was interesting, portion was too big for two pax though. The lady server was very attentive, quietly observing and anticipating what we need. Service staff with such caliber are hard to come by!

Having been to Cocotte on several occasions, I was really looking forward to trying Summer Hill even though I knew that the concept and price point was different. I have to say that I was disappointed with the overall experience.

The chicken was superb, but the sides were a letdown. Though the special was to have been a kohlrabi slaw, we received a sort of flan instead without any explanation. It was also clear that the flan was microwaved (as were the potatoes), so it tasted a little like plane food. We also had the peach cobbler, which was a sloppy microwaved mess. The heavy cream served with it just made it worse. Fortunately, we were not charged for it. I really did have much higher hopes for the quality of food.

The service staff seemed very inexperienced. We were not asked to order at the counter when we were handed our menus – something that could easily be rectified with instructions on the menu (for example). That left us sitting outside for a long time wondering why no one was serving us.

Finally, through no fault of the restaurant, a giant rat casually wound its way through the outside seating – making several diners scream. Overall, an unfortunate experience and a letdown from such a promising Chef.

The Iberico Pork in particular was mind-blowingly amazing. My husband said this was one of the best french dishes he has had (and he hops round sg french restaurants quite a bit). Perfectly cooked pork, delicious hazelnut/mustard sauce and sumptuous side dishes.

Roast Chicken side dishes were superb too; the chili-corn bread and cauliflowers were so refreshingly different and tasty.

Caught up with an old friend in this cozy little cafe hidden in Claymore Connect in Orchard. Worth the trip for a simple, homey lunch. We split a huge fried half chicken, with an amazing selection of sides from eggplant to cauliflower to mashed potatos. You can see the flavor put in from the photos. Ordered two lunch sets. roast chicken ($26)
+ veal ($26+45). Chose eggplant and ricotta cheese tomatoes salad for appetizers.

My veal came with more salad. So I shld have probably ordered a dessert instead. Waitress could have provided more info here. The veal was cooked perfectly. Very tender but taste wise average.

Chicken came breast meat which my Mum doesn’t fancy. I thought 1/4 chicken would come as a thigh. If u do come here for the chicken, do ask if they have thigh meat if u are not a breast fan. The breast meat was also cooked perfectly. Tender but a bit dry.

Overall average experience for the price paid. Gave feedback to the waitress that she should have given more info on the chicken or perhaps ask the customer if u want chicken breast or thigh. Apparently based on her reply is it’s not guaranteed that u will get a chicken thigh if u want it. So if it’s not guaranteed, I wouldn’t order it.

Finally checked out Summer Hill after it moved to its new central location. The roast chicken was perfectly tender and juicy, and we absolutely LOVED the potato pave and the brussel sprouts amandine. Our first time here at this quiet corner of the otherwise bustling food enclave at Sunset Way. Considering the portions (they are huge!) the food menu is very reasonably priced. We had the 1/2 Roast Chicken ($32) and Normandy Mussels, ($32) for mains, and shared a portion of Duck Fat Fries ($15, must try!). We were too full for desserts after that but we did takeaway a dark chocolate tart with us

Yummylicious food. It’s abit on e x side but worth it as it’s quality food. For our mains, we had e truffle & Brie sandwich (which came with salad n fries) & e mussels (with sourdough) E mussels were cooked in a rich creamy broth n we kept dunking our bread in. When we ran out of bread, we drank it like soup.
For our sides, we had e roasted eggplant & their Ricotta & tomatoe salad. E latter is a must try as it’s so refreshing as e acidity from e tomatoes helped with our over order (yes our eyes r bigger than our tummies)
Service was excellent as e waiter was attentive n helpful especially with e recommendations.
E only downside to dis was it was hot. While we were eating, we were also wiping off sweat from our faces.

We had been to the Sunset Way branch number of times. Since it was moved to Claymore, this is the first time we visited. We ordered many dishes as we had a big party. We had seabass, half roast chicken, mushroom bacon pasta, braised beef pasta, mussels, duck fat fried potatoes, desserts etc. I have to say the foods were still excellent, everything were just so good. All of us were very happy with the meal. Will certainly come back again.

This little dining place ar Sunset Way is rather unique. The setting is very much like Europe outdoor dining at the courtyard. Though it’s tropical weather, hot and humid, but the air cooler helps to keep the condition quite pleasant. There are not many tables and you need to book in advance if you want to secure a table. The menu is not too extensive and so it makes a simple choice. It’s a first time here for us. The first impressions were good. We ordered the roast chicken and pork collar. These were the 2 of the signature dishes out of the 4 that we decided to have. The quality of the foods are excellent. The roast chicken was tender and moist. The pork collar was cooked just right and the sauce that go with it was really delicious. The portion were substantial and you had a really full meal with just enough space for a shared dessert. I am not really a sweet person but my wife loves dessert and she thought that chocolate tarts was really delicious. My verdict is 5 .

It was too much for 2 pax but we left with happy bellies 😀
I read some poor reviews about the duck fat fries, after trying it, I beg to differ. The duck fat added deeper flavour to the fries so do expect oiler fries than normal. But this is definitely better than truffle fries, IMO.
Both the Veal chop and Beef sandwich are absolutely amazing. Juicy and tender.

First time tonight at Summer Hill and I am pleasantly surprised and happy with my overall dining experience.
Service 5- friendly, attentive and changed our plates with each course. Service staff also patient in sharing what are their popular items.

5 Roasted eggplant w/ green goddess hummus plumped currants, fried chickpeas. I loved the contrast in taste and textures and smoky eggplant.

4Spice roasted cauliflower aioli, almonds, currants. I think the the curry powder was a touch too heavy for my liking. But the cauliflower was roasted well without being too dry; charred a little but still juicy inside.

4.5Whole roasted Red Snapper with lemon & fresh thyme served with sauce vierge, pomegranate tabbouleh. The fish was not overcooked and tasted fresh. The citrus broth complemented perfectly. The pomegranate tabbouleh was very refreshing and light.

5French Fried Chicken with herb, lemon & honey butter drench buttermilk fried, hormone & antibiotic-free, brined for 24hrs. A bit pricey but can’t fault the buttermilk fried chicken and the delicious sides of roasted cauliflower, and mashed potatoes.

Unpretentious rustic French fare at Summer Hill, though the price point is on the steep end.

Signature French Fried Chicken (from $20/2pcs), brined for 24 hours and marinated in buttermilk before fried in the herb, garlic, lemon & honey brown butter drench. Seasoned to perfection, it’s a common dish done uncommonly well.

Another lovely dish will be the Seafood Pot Pie ($87). Love the creamy lobster bisque with fresh XL tiger prawns, mussels, squid and clams in puff pastry. Else dive right in for their devilish hood Duck Fat-Fried Potato Pavé & Aioli ($15), crispy layered cakelets of thinly sliced potatoes.

Went on a Sunday lunch, there is only about 4 tables filled. With about 3-4 staffs outside, and perhaps couple more in the kitchen, I’d expected swift services. But, service was slow, and pretty long wating time between each dish.

What was most unacceptable was the still uncooked pork chop, which is supposedly their signature. It feels like they deep fried a frozen chop but did not check for its doneness, despite the chop being sliced into pieces when served. We sent it back, noting the the rawness… the chop was re-served back after 5mins, still raw and red in the centre, utterly unacceptable

Over pricing on the high side, for casual foods, $320 for 4 mains, 2 soups, and 1 appetiser.

Roast chicken was tasty. Seafood pot pie was decent in taste, but very pricey at 89
