An attractive and a temple with a quite relaxing vibes. As soon as one see this Krishna temple feel relaxed and positive vibes comes inside inside.

The temple is very colourful with quite attractive idols of God and goddess. One can feel in different zone as soon as they enter the temple.

One can offer aarti here if they wish too. The time when I visited lot of Bhajan was going on various musical instruments which make you feel to sit here in the peaceful environment.

It is on the edge of the market and a very popular spot, one should visit here without any other thought.

Colourful. Gorgeous. Narrative. Experiential. Right within city centre. This is a hindu temple that had been recently renovated that is worth visiting. Gives a glimpse into a religion practised throughout Asia. Best of all, it is located just 50m from the iconic buddhist temple worshipping the Goddess of Mercy which is also worth a visit. Google info of the 2 religions beforehand to maximise your understanding.

Sri Krishnan Temple (a.k.a Sri Krishna Temple), on Waterloo Street was established in 1870. It is the only South Indian Hindu temple in Singapore dedicated exclusively to Sri Krishna and his consort Rukmini.

The Sri Krishnan Temple was established in 1870 when a person named Hanuman Beem Singh set up an idol of Sri Krishna under a banyan tree in Waterloo Street. Little is known about Hanuman Beem Singh, save for the fact that he set up the idol to cater to the religious needs of a large Hindu community that had established itself in the area bound by Bras Basah Road, Victoria street and Albert Street. Beem Singh passed on the management of the temple to his son Humna Somapah when he became too old to manage it on his own. By then, the number of people who congregated to worship at the temple had grown extensively. In 1904, the management of the temple was passed on to a lady named Joognee Ammal who bore the cost of the construction of the main shrine. When she no longer could manage the temple, she requested V. Pakirisamy Pillai to take over the temple. In 1935, she passed on the management to V. Pakirisamy Pillai, who built the hall and walls of the temple in the memory of his mother Alamaylo Ammal.

Pakirisamy Pillai was the son of Koona Vayloo Pillai, a wealthy Tamil businessman. When Koona Vayloo Pillai died in 1931, his estate was inherited by Pakirisamy Pillai and his brother Narayanasamy Pillai. Pakirisamy Pillai, a Chief Court Clerk with the firm Allen and Gledhill, served as the Chairman for the Hindu Temples’ Committees of Management for four different Hindu temples. He became a City Councillor from the late 1940s to early 1950s, and in 1946 he served as a Justice of Peace. For his social and community work, he won many awards including the BBM by the President of Singapore, the Coronation Medal and the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire by the British empire. Pakirisamy Pillai is credited with the extensive development of the temple. His son Sivaraman took over the temple in 1984 and soon began renovating the temple. From 1985 to 1989, the temple went through extensive renovation work and the Mahakumbhabishekam or the Consecration ceremony took place in November 1989, presided over by the guest of honour, Wong Kan Seng, the Minister for Community Development and Foreign affairs.

As the temple is located very near to the Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple, many Chinese devotees light joss sticks at the Sri Krishnan Temple as well. The temple’s management therefore decided to build an altar dedicated to Guan Yin, the Goddess of Mercy within the temple’s grounds. Religious activities at the temple include those by The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON).

Hindu temple, ritual, next to Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho temple, Bugis street

The temple opens early in the morning, so that becomes my only option to spend my last day in the city/country. The front part is a larger than human size statue of an indian man and a half monkey. Inside is a fine porcelain statue depicting a goddess. The main hall is not too big. There was a morning ritual with three indian men wearing traditional robes led a prayer, and played some music. The walls are full of statues, painted mostly in blue or green. Saw horse head god protected by an umbrella of snakes, probably Hayagriva, but I am not sure. Saw some manifestation of Vishnu deities. The main altar should be Krishna, painted in black, adorned by colorful clothing and real flower garland.

It has multiple Hindu gods such as Venkateshwara, Maha Lakshmi, Guruvayurappa, Krishna, Rukmini devi, Surya Narayana, Ganesha, Narasimha Swamy, Maha Vishnu etc. It’s a clean and neat Hindu temple, maintained quite well. There is Buddha temple adjacent to this temple. You will see a lot of locals as well as travelers visiting the temple and taking pictures. I’ve heard that it was one of the most beautiful Hindu temples in Singapore and the information was so right. Although it was an old temple, it looked so colorful and so new. Outside it was very beautiful because of its unique design. It was like a hidden gem hiding in Waterloo street. It was the only Hindu temple where I could get in, pray and take a look closer inside. An awesome temple. Extremely Rich in many aspects – the divinity in idols, workmanship in the temple design, painting works, cleanliness, priest attentiveness, rituals and lighting. The only concern is lack of designated parking. Hotel parking to be used. Better to visit in a taxi or take Public Transport.

Love the traditional Anglican morning services in the Nave, as well as the contemporary ones. Definitely worth a visit for all! To God be the glory!
Architecture of church is very good. It is Anglican cathedral in Singapore. Lot of tourists visit this Church. It is country’s largest cathedral. Easy to reach via City Hall, MRT station. It is also a historical church.

About a couple of years back, this temple went under renovation. The new statues of deities can easily mesmerise one. I’ve been wanting to return back here for long, and today it happened. I took lots of pictures and videos and will post them slowly, one by one.
