Order kway chap set and they gave me the wrong order. Didn’t even bother to change the order and gave a nonchalant ‘too bad’ because of ‘miscommunication’ . Spent $5.80 for random slab of duck meat and it’s very little considering it’s an upsize. The best part of my meal is the coke to wash down the taste of this bad experience.

This store is right near Mustafa Centre and the Braised Duck Rice is super tasty. The sauce the duck comes with is very savoury and a little sweet and must have with a big bowl of rice.

Standard of the duck has dropped like mad. They probably swapped the duck out for a cheaper one. Everything fastes just as good – except the duck. Tough, dry and leathery! Huge disappointment! All the other dishes are still okay, but for the price – really not worth.

Used to frequent this place when it was at SBV, 99 bends more than 10 years ago. Back then it was a nightmare to park and get a place to sit, always crowded. Lost it in the midst of their moving and recently found it when a friend brought me here. Same thing, recipe never change with the same dishes and braised duck. Taste never change much which is still quite delicious and fair portion. Alternative to the braised duck porridge at Whampoa market. Recommended to visit and enjoy the meal.

This local duck rice store originally from west coast area that I had visited over 20 years ago, now today I’ve moved to SG and stop in this new location the taste and the rest it’s still like the original restaurant, good taste good price fast service.

It’s quite nice. But overrated and over priced. Especially the sambal tofu. Will never order that again if I ever return . But for braised duck I’ll go to tekka market for my fix.

I had been patronising the original shop at South Buona Vista Road for years and was so glad when they brought back the business, albeit at a location that is much further for me.

The duck and sauce is as good as I remember it to be; the portion also rationed in the same way (more please?). I always go for the porridge and will recommend the sambal Kang Kong and the sambal tofu as standard side dishes. N.B. the tofu dish only uses a bit of sambal, contrary to the photo displayed.

My order for two persons came up to $23.50, but a straightforward duck rice meal for 1 person would be around $4.

Rightly, I should deduct 1 star because the shop is only open for lunch (why??) and traffic around Mustafa is terrible so it would take me extra effort & planning if I wanted to enjoy their duck. I visited on a Tuesday at 2:45pm and there was 1 duck left.

This has to be one of the best tasting duck rice stall in SG.

The duck meat is tender. The braised gravy is yummy and the duck meat with the gravy plus the chilli sauce is just so OOMPH!

    We ordered portion for 2
    Duck Meat
Must dip with the chilli sauce!
They offer other dishes and yam rice too.
The order comes with a bowl of soup.
We also ordered a portion of braised egg, 豆干 and sambal beancurd.
Cost us about $26 all in all.

Didn’t get to try their kway chap as it was not available at the point of ordering.

You can along along the road (parallel parking) but not easy to get available lots as it is a busy street. Can park opposite in the public car park though.

    Overall 4.6 / 5

The dark gravy is quite good by itself, and the duck meat is tender. I don’t eat duck rice often, so can’t really compare it with other duck rice. However, this is quite pricey. $6 for single portion of the duck, and $1.2 for the yam rice.

Tried this twice in 3 weeks and it really was a mix bag of reactions for me.
1st time I tried i ordered the drumstick which was succulent and fresh, with the yam rice very fragrant and the chilli adding a nice zing to the dish.
However, the 2nd time I tried it, i didnt order the drumstick and just went for the normal order of duck meat with their yam rice. The duck meat this time round was very tough and chewy and the yam rice was lacking in flavour. This time around, they only gave a trickle of chilli and it wasn’t enuff for even a few spoonfuls of the rice.
Maybe they had an “off-day” and I chanced upon it, I am really not sure.
Will probably not actively seek them out again, unless I am in the vicinity.

Thr soup wasn’t as herbal as before but the duck slathered with thick gravy was still tasty, but I probably wouldn’t return as there are better choices out there. Tried their duck rice many years back and known that they have shifted to this current place for a while. I actually came here a few times, either their shop was full or they were sold out for the day. Happen to pass by this area one afternoon and decided to head over and check the place out. Reached the shop around 1.30pm, surprised to find it quite empty. Left my stuff on one of the tables outside and proceed to went in to order.

Ordered the 1 person portion duck rice which was SGD$6, added the braised egg SGD$1 and a can drink for SGD$1.80. In total paid $9.80 for my meal. Food didn’t take long to arrive. The meal came with a rice and a bowl of soup. Over here, they provide 2 kind of chili, one is the tangy garlic chili and sambal. Portion of the meat quite generous, meat was flavorful but quite hard. The braised duck gravy is slightly on the sweeter side.

Overall, a decent plate of duck rice but no nice as it used to be.

    Went there so excitedly!

There wasn’t much of a queue and we got a table fairly quickly, unfortunately, we waited ~35 mins before our 2 pax duck was served. Guilty party? The many people standing outside the store waiting for their da bao.

Another bummer – the yam rice wasn’t available, which is a shock because the place opens at 11 and we reached at 12.

Oh well, guess got to make another trip down…

There was a queue to enter the eatery when I was there. Spacious and airy place, it was almost a full house.

After waiting in line for some time, my order was finally taken with payment collected. I ordered 2 portions of individual duck rice for $5 each, a small Sambal Kang Kong for $8, and 2 packets of white rice for $0.80 each. I was surprised that rice wasn’t included in the $5 meal but that was fine.

All in all it took me more than 30 minutes for a simple takeaway, much longer than I would expect and desired.

Taste wise the standard has dropped drastically from the time they were at South Buona Vista Road. The meat is now dry, and the kang kong no longer as fragrant. It was a slightly less than satisfactory meal.

To be fair, I appreciated the manner at how the meals were packed. It was neat, and I wasn’t charged additional fees for takeaways.

Overall this is not a place I will recommend, and I suggest that the owners do something about the speed at which meals are prepared – this was really a deal breaker for me as I cannot understand why it will take more than 30 minutes to prepare for a seemingly simple order.

Braised Duck with Innards (Porridge and Rice). The previously popular braised duck stall at south Buona Vista has moved to a new location in its own space. The owner is the brother in law of the original South Buona Vista Braised Duck and I must say their offering is a good reminder of the good old days near Singapore’s 99 turn road.

This is the same Sam Leong South Buona Vista boneless duck rice that’s originally called Lee Seng Lim,at the original 99 弯 real venue.
Both brothers retired, and the bro in law took over, but not wanting to use the old Brand name, and started as a stall in a coffee shop end of Sam Leong Road..all are old faces, bro in law started as valet, then married the owner sister and becomes part time chef!now they just moved to their very own small shop stall on 81 Desker Road, stone’s throw from Sam Leong just this week.
Food remains great, but as they just started, orders are in chaos with long wait, evem the sunday crowd is half full only!
Very clean venue, still same 1 way street Desker Road, parking can be a chore..parked around the surrounding of Mustaffa Center building will be best parking options,if one does not want to try its luck in the 1 way parking along Sam Leong,Syled Alwi or Desker Road.

The thing that makes this place stand out is that zhap/gravy. It is the best gravy I’ve tried. If you are nearby please make your way here. And the condiment is unique, a mixture of sambal and vinegar. I am not very fond of sambal because of its strong tatse. The vinegar mellowed the flavor enough to complement the sauce. And the prawn taste of the sambal is more rounded because of that!

Visited this place to eat the duck rice after hearing good reviews for it. Weekend crowd is quite crazy so you have to be prepared to queue if you want to dine in and you will have to search hard for parking lots. Ordering was chaotic as they seemed understaffed, and it wasn’t clear initially whether you need to approach the auntie to order or wait to be approached. The auntie came eventually but no menu was given so we just had to whack something. Serving of food was very slow and there were many tables waiting – so my neighbours beside and behind were (un)happily commenting on the chaos. Food wise, the duck meat and the kang kong were pretty nice, but no yam rice as they ran out (at 12+ pm). I wouldn’t say it is value for money for the quantity and may not return unless I’m really having a craving.

The chilli sauce is sweet and sour, very well balanced.

The intestine is soft and not gamey. To every this place serves perfect duck rice

The downside is there is quite a bit of MSG, my mouth is dried up right after meal.

Delicious braised duck, deboned. New yam rice, flavourful. Difficult to find parking at this area, on Desker Road.

Not sure if their braised duck Hokkien style but I do much prefer their thick gravy rather than the traditional Teochew lighter sauce type.

Was a regular in their old location at South Buona Vista and was glad that the ex-staff has maintained the same standard and opened at this current location when the old master decided to retire.

    Update on Oct 2022:
Used to only know this place for Hokkien style duck rice(HSDR) but after discovering places like Sean Kee and Chuan Kee that also offer comparable quality HSDR yet with more down to earth pricing, this place are no longer my 1st choice go to place. This is especially so after a recent disappointing visit which the duck meat was tough and really off the mark, the thick gravy was probably the saving grace.

It’s a bit pricey at $5 for duck rice, but they give a good amount of duck meat. I found the food to be overall okay. Decent but not to-die-for.

I was particularly impressed by how thinly they slice the duck meat – vertically thin, but with a thick cross-section. Very different from every other duck rice stall. Otherwise, the meat was quite dry.

The gravy was well done though. Not too watery, and pretty tasty.

Yam rice was average – soft but slightly towards the dry side.

Also average was the preserved vegetable soup. No herbal soup here.

Delighted to locate the eatery again. Still the same tender offering that I’ve come to expect. Highly recommended. Go earlier in the day to avoid peak hour crowd.

Tastes like 20 years ago when they were at South Buona Vista Road. Duck was tender, gravy is uniquely similar and it goes well with their chilli.

Used to patronise the old shop at B Vista. Happened to be passing by this new shop so bought for family lunch. Duck meat still tender, gravy still awesome. Signature sides (toufu and kangkong) are ok (but wife says not as good as before). Both types of chilli still have standard. Portions are for 3 pax so for the price, quite reasonable.

The duck rice is nice but I think it’s really pricey I was nearby and decided to takeout a packet of duck breast rice with an egg and it was $6. And a can drink was $1.8. I can understand inflation and stuff but for the portion and price, I wouldn’t come back unless I have no option around the neighborhood. Extra chilli and sauces are chargeable too.

Duck is good. Appreciate boneless duck cos normal duck would have a lot of shattered bones to deal with.

Yam rice is not fragrant enough. Not worth paying more for.

The tofu dish is nice too, while the braised tofu, taupok are passable.

Nice braised duck stall here that used to be located at Buona vista. The dark gravy is addictive and goes very well with porridge. The sambal kanglong and prawn are done quite well, surprisingly. In all, if you are in the area and craves for comfort food, do pay this stall a visit.

Food. OK. 3.5 star. Had duck. Kang Kong. And tofu. All taste better than when they were at the 2nd location opposite mustafa.

    Waited 1.5hours for the food.
    Operationally. They failed miserably.
Many staff standing around not doing anything. All waiting for next thing to do instructions from 1 main auntie.

I think they will chase many customers away from coming back with the waiting time.

They need to sit and regroup who handles what in the shop.

Amazing braised duck. Love having it with the porridge. The duck sauce is wonderful and goes really well. Without a strong offensive duck taste, like some other stores.
