Food is great. Really enjoy the food but service and customer experience is pathetic. No smiles and it seems like they do not have the heart to serve. Though the place is very crowded and busy, customer experience is still very important and the servers should serve with a smile and provide a positive customer experience to the patrons.

In terms of chaochow 潮汕菜 this is the best in my 40 years of searching for this regional food. Simply stunningly good, just forget about the ambience. Ambience is not edible. When you try the food, you go to paradise. P.s.Ample of parking at the back. Book it first!!

Food is tasty but service is way below par. Ordered small size charged large price even though we confirmed small size. Waitress got orders wrong and refused to call the boss. Tried to push crab when we did not order crab. On top of that long wait between dishes.

Been dining at this place for a few times since last year. Good traditional Teochew cuisine. Freshly steam fish and fried vegetable dishes never fail to trigger the taste buds of old timer Teochews. Highly recommended for their food quality and pride in cooking. One ⭐️ short for the lack of service by the waitress handling the 2nd floor. Not attentive enough to our requests.

Food and portion are great. But as also everybody else have pointed, service is barely existent. The lady behind the cashier also hates her job so much that her disdain fills up the room. She looks down at the customers as if they were peasants who are begging for food.

Teochew Porridge with lots of dishes to choose from.
    Please ask for their recommendation.
We didn’t do that so what we had didn’t impressed us.

The braised meats platter offered a good mixed but tasted so so. Caipo omelette tasted too light for my liking. Bah Kut Teh has a very soft ribs and slipped off the bone but minus point is that the soup was too sweet.

I will be back to try their fish. I saw it on other tables and it looks really good.

Delicious and cheap, the ingredients are fresh, and the amount of each item is solid , you can enjoy Teochew cooking . Siomai, crechao, grilled pork, and oyster omelette are unmistakable. Reservations are required for the roasted pork. Let’s come again

A shop always crowded with locals
The fish was a little salty, but I am grateful that I can eat Teochew cuisine!

    Before Chinese New Year
It seems that auspicious items and items with market prices are a little more expensive, so I was surprised when I was told that the red fish I randomly ordered was over $120, so I asked for a change! smile

There are staff who can speak Chinese, but there are also staff who can speak English, so it is recommended to check the price before ordering!

So if I am being honest I was a little apprehensive about eating here.
This is our first trip to Singapore and the menu was so unfamiliar.
Chinese food as served in Ireland was so altered to be unrecognisable to anyone here.
    Well we tried it.
What a revelation. On our first trip we had a soup with pork ribs . The broth was light but oh so flavourful and the meat just slid off the bones. We continued with meat covered tofu. It also proved to be tasty and extremely moreish.
Tonight ,being busy, they squeezed us in and we managed a quick dinner of fried fish, ginger prawns and fabulous fried noodles.
The service was quick , the food was delicious and the cost was low.
You have definitely converted this Irishman from a sceptic into a devotee.

I can hardly wait until I can visit again!!

Will be visiting this place later today. Just read the reviews left behind by patrons before me. Mostly commended about the good food quality but lamented about the poor service quality.

Meantime I will give a median 3-star rating first. Will personally experience the truth later and provide a genuine post-visit report.

Done with the visit to Sin Chao Gardens and below are my personal review.

    The following dishes were ordered,
    Cold Crab
    Cold Cockrel
    Dry Steam Yellow Crocker
    Teochew Style Steam Promfret
    Stir Fry Green Dragon Veg
    Braised Duck
    Fry Chye Poh Kway Teow
    Sweet & Sour Pork
    Fry Oyster with Egg
    Yam Paste Dessert

Most of the hot dishes are of acceptable quality but not value for money cuz other Teochew porridge stalls and Teochew cuisine restaurants or eateries also can fetch the same food quality at lower price. The Yam Paste Dessert should not have include the fried shallot which made the dessert to have a bitter after taste. The cold crabs are not very fresh to the taste, can taste that they are kept in the fridge for at least a day ago. The giant cold cockrels look special but the usual red liquid found in each cockrel looks rusty red and not bright red. The only good ones are the steam promfret and dry steam yellow crocker. Fry Chye Poh Kway Teow is also another dish that is recommendable.

As for service wise, the reataurant is small and each level is taken care by around 2 staffs but because of the small number of tables, there is no excuse of shortage of manpower which the patrons has to bear with the bad service for the staffs basically Lack Of Proper Customer Service Training. Suggest the boss to watch the recent interview Mediacorp 8 had with the boss of Putien Restaurant chain on how his managers and staffs are trained to serve their patrons well. I can see the serving staffs tonight are trying to provide a good customer service but still has plenty of room to improve. For example, rotate the dish platform without prior notice while the patron is still taking food from the dish is totally not acceptable as this is basic manner to the patron.

From the above, the overall rating has to drop by 1 star to 2-star rating.

Boss, time for improvement if you still want new patrons to come back again.

    5 ⭐️ for food… 1 ⭐️ for service.

One of the best and most authentic Teochew food you can find in Singapore. The Ngor Hiang and the deep fried ‘Nanru’ pork is especially good. However, the attitude of the female staff is really bad. She was sulking throughout the whole service and was non responsive when we ask for an additional bowl of rice. When we asked politely again, she replied with a very annoying ‘WAIT’. The restaurant was not even crowded at the point and she was definitely not busy. I see no reason for this kind of attitude.

If you can tolerate bad service then definitely give this restaurant a try. Otherwise, don’t bother.

Sin Chao Gardens has been a long time favourite amongst Teochew Porridge lovers. Formally in Joo Chiat, Sin Chao Gardens lives up to its name in serving authentic Teochew cuisine.

The fish served here is fresh, with an ice tray filled with fish and seafood, allowing customers to select based on their preference.

Roast platter served here offers the traditional braised fare seen in Kway Chap, including Braised Duck, Tau Gua, Eggs, Pig Skin, Pork Belly, Intestines.

Cai Po fried Eggs, Steamed Pork Pate, Salted eggs are just some of the other recommended food as well.

Verdict: Good Food, but pricey. For the food serving and quality, can be found at other teochew porridge places at much better price point.

    $80 for 2 Pax.

Friendly on the pocket, frequent by businessmen and family who have been following the owner for many years. Came here after reading Dr Leslie Tay’s review. Certain dishes indeed stood out as mentioned. Eg the Chye Poh kway teow had a nice wok hei, the chye poh omelette was also very good. The fluffy texture with sweet chye poh was a great match. Also very good was the ngoh hiang. The mince meat was very lean, which is usually hard to find in ngoh hiang. Also ordered the braised platter, which was ok. The duck was a bit tough and the tofu was not smooth and soft enough.

This fairly authentic Teochew restaurant serves delicious food and at reasonable prices as it does not charge service charge and GST (probably inclusive already in the menu prices). Service was reasonable enough too in view of the current manpower shortage. The lady staff was friendly enough despite having to serve a few tables upstairs where we were seated. We went early at 6.30pm on a Friday and there were adequate free parking lots next to the restaurant (dead-end lane). Overall a good dinner experience for six of us.

If you’re after reasonably good and authentic Teochew Porridge, and in my opinion reasonably priced Teochew dishes in a reasonably decent ambience, then this is the perfect place for you. Let me explain. While you see many reviews here complained about overpriced and bad service, I will share with you my honest experience today. Two eaters, my wife and I. We walked in, promptly seated by a lady waitress. Given some time to ponder over the menu, we noticed the boss standing nearby, my wife asked in Teochew if there’s Leather Jacket fish today, the boss replied in Teochew, not available today, but recommended Bitter gourd with threadfin fish stomach, but my wife preferred a whole fish steamed, and the boss kindly informed us it might be too much for us both to finish a whole fish. Thus we ordered the braised mixed platter, a cabbage portion, Teochew meatballs which are fishcakes, two porridges and we asked for extra rice broth which l they duly given to us free. In between, we wanted more greens and we asked for a fried Kailan with Tee Poh or solefish which the boss promptly went into the kitchen to fry it for us. All these food for only $40 no GST no service charge, how is it overpriced? In terms of tastes, definitely 4/5 and authentic Teochew flavours. Of course you can have better Teochew Porridges like Zai Shun or Choon Seng but you will be paying the same and more yet you’re sitting in a coffee shop. Or you can go to Teochew Restaurants like Chui Huay Lim, Huat Kee or Imperial Teochew with a Michelin star and see how much you will be paying. After paying, on our way out the doors, the boss whom is smoking outside thanked us and bid us goodbye. No bad service experienced. Definitely coming back to try their steamed fish. Seen all the other tables ordered them and they really looked very good.

After going to Jushilin, I accidentally walked into Xinchaoyuan for Chinese food. I ordered duck rice ($4) and meat bone soup ($2), which were super delicious and super cheap. awesome!

    去了居士林后,无意间走入新潮园用中餐,点了鸭饭($4)和肉骨汤($2)超好吃,超便宜。赞!

The boss and staffs are so nice and friendly.
They accept all modes of payment. Very convenient for us.

Reasonably priced and great tasting food. Just be sure to be early ie 7pm and order all ur food at one go. Might be slow food output after. Was seated at 2nd floor and served by one waitress. She tried her best and I thought it was pretty good service as she had to keep walking up and down. Car park readily accessible behind the restaurant.

Amazing recommendation by a friend who lives in the area. Braised duck is soft and tender and the braised soy sauce is yummy! Fried oyster eggs is great too.

Best part is the easy parking and fair price which I don’t imagine can be found in the middle of River Valley.

Enjoyed the braised platter (medium $25), oyster omelette (original small $16), bittergourd fried with salted egg (medium $12), and yam paste with gingko nuts ($7). The sauce for the braised platter was excellent. There was duck meat, bean curd, pig ears, pig skin, pork belly and intestines, though a bit too much pig skin and too many boney parts for the duck meat. The oyster omelette was not bad. The bittergourd was great with the salted egg sauce. The yam paste was outstanding – cooked fresh to order, thick but not oily with some gingko nuts and pumpkin and the fried shallots went well with it.

Good place for authentic teochew food. All dishes I have tried are delicious. Pricing is very affordable. All in all, a place worth visiting over and over again. I’m absolutely in love with orh nee (yam paste), the addition of fried onions makes it exceptionally savoury!

Authentic teochew food. We ordered the typical teochew simple dishes and it all tastes great. We had the soy duck, dao kee, dao pok, stew preserved vegetables, these are mostly pre-cooked food. They are all cooked with a well balanced of spices and very authentic flavors. Other dishes we ordered are fried bitter gourds and steamed grouper. Both are excellent, the fried bitter gourds with eggs was really nice. It was quite busy when we were there but no problem in getting seats for us. Highly recommend this place if you are fans of Teochew food.

Most expensive food served with bad service attitude. We had 2 tables, our food selection were the roast pig, duck, pomphet fish, vegetables, black pepper crayfish, fried kuay teow, fried oysters and Orh Nee. Honestly the food was not that that great and overpriced. For 2 tables it was
    800ish in total

Clean conducive environment to have Teochew food. Something like a little more class teochew porridge place. Some car park lots available at the back. Two floors where the second floor have larger tables. Enjoyed the black bean leather jacket fish and braised duck. The others were so so.

Good authetic teochew dishes and the seafood is consider quite fresh.
The chilli black bean paste fried fish head is a killer! Chef made the effort to deep fried every single pieces till the Wok Hei fuses out and each piece is covered with the very aromatic black bean paste. Next time i will ask for more spicy !
The only downside is there are more bones then meat..maybe only 30% from the amount of cut fish head served…guessed just happen the head given got not enough meat for my order? Will give it another try in next visit to confirm again.
The pork jelly is ok only not so flavourful to my standard, find something missing…maybe they should put some sliced pig ears inside for some crushiness?
The big cockles worth trying, fresh and goes well with their in-house chilli.
The black sauce that comes with it doesn’t suit me though.
Total bill $60 for 3 dishes ordered with 3 bowl of porridge and 1 pot of Tie Guan yin for both me and my wife
Expensive meal that comes with the free car park??

Prices are reasonable but place seem a bit short staffed and not easy for them to carry big trays and walk up the narrow flight of stairs from the kitchen. Cai por wok fried hor fun was really good, I do like the braised duck as well. Oyster omelette had good flavour but I was expecting the crispy type. Ngoh Hiang, tofu with prawns lacked a bit of depth of flavour
