This is the one that my dad brought me here when I was young.

I was here again on the 14th December 2017 and found out that they changed the menu. They separate the meat, skin and internal parts into 2 different categories. Their price was also more expensive compare to the one in Geylang.

Overrated turtle soup. Not bad for its taste but too pricey. Cheaper turtle soup elsewhere tat r just as good.

Service was great with friendly staff, i was there at 1pm on a busy Saturday. Saw us with a baby and offered a baby chair and helped store a stroller so we could eat more comfortably.

I am a fan of Tan Ser Seng turtle soup (in geylang) so i think a comparison is in order. If you love “in your face type” of herbal taste in your soup, then Tan Ser Seng is your place to go.

The soups here are generally less intense than at Tan Ser Seng. It was tasty and refreshing too. One thing they do better here, in my opinion, is that the turtle meat and innards are much more tender than at Tan Ser Seng.

Best turle soup but costly. One may cost about $40 per person with soup and rice. However, I love it very much. You can have a lot of good choice along this road. The popular beef noodle started at the first coffee shop at the junction of the main road. Aunty house has good food then Ser Seng turtle soup. Following is the Choon Seng crabs and …..

Hot soup on every visit. Never fail to satisfy my craving. If you are not into turtle soup, go for pepper tripe soup (猪肚汤). If you are not into spicy chilli, add a little light soya sauce. As for the size of the turtle soup, $20 is good for one. Oh yes, you can request to add soup. Nice. Come in and try if you are in Singapore. Cheers =D

Had dinner here at a nice and cosy corner of Potong Pasir. Friendly lady boss and staff. The turtle soup here isn’t too heavy tasting, it’s more like peppery collagen soup kinda taste, quite easy on the tongue. Black chicken soup is also not bad! The stir-fried vegetable has this home-cooked taste as well. This place reminds me a bit of the old-timer restaurants in Malaysia. Overall had a very nice dinner here…

The soup is great very rich in taste. But unless you are travelling there by Taxi/PH/Public Transport, driving your own car could face some issue as the parking lots are very limited and parallel parking only.

Really tasty old school herbal soups – turtle soup and black chicken soup. Yummy yam rice, but the icing on the cake is the chilli sauce – sweet, tangy & spicy, just heaven.

If ever I needed a bowl of soup, I’d surely come here. This isn’t just any place that sells good soup, it’s an institution for me. The soup base (mixture of herb and ginger on the side) hits all the right notes flavour wise 5/5 and you can’t argue with the copious amount of “liao” (ingredients) that goes ever so well between balanced slurps and bites 5/5. Some would argue it’s expensive. Well I’d say price is what you pay and value is what you get 5/5. Don’t take my word, just swing by. This is one of those dishes that if not taken care of, will be lost in a question of years…so eat while you still can.

Unfortunately, I myself am not a eater of pi o soup (shaped like a turtle or commonly called labi labi). I brought this with my family, according to them this is the best in Singapore, a kind of Ciak Po, or it tastes like a medicinal broth. It’s healthy. The service is very good and fast. Loved the quiet ambience(quirky religious feels for a place that sells.. well, turtle soup), not very sure if the meat is really turtle, we seemed to be eating a lot of gelatinous cartilage instead. But overall, the soup was ‘sebei shiok’, definitely worth the visit. And service was pretty excellent. Definitely going back.

We were informed that this small hole-in-the-wall venue was one of the best examples of turtle soup remaining in Singapore. Popular with the pre-WWII and some of the baby boomer generation as a herbal soup, it is less available today. We can’t explain if turtle soup is a specific Chinese dialectic food in Singapore but we understand the cuisine is slowly disappearing from the country’s food annals.

Firstly, turtle soup is not actually made from turtles but fresh water soft shell terrapins. The best parts were the webbed claws, skin, innards and eggs. So we ordered the turtle internal parts soup. Since the yam rice and black chicken soup were also signature Ser Seng dishes, we added orders of those.

The turtle soup was a rich broth, glutinous and sticky to the lips. It also contained a slight bitter herbal wine flavor. The fragrant yam rice was an excellent complement to the thick soup.

We had a mix of claws, livers, skin, meat and small eggs in the broth. The pieces of white meat tasted like chicken breast. The claw meat was much softer and tastier. The broth removed any coppery taste from the crunchy livers and the eggs delivered a weak pop and dense creaminess. We particularly enjoyed the jelly-like texture of the skin.

The black chicken soup was equally rich in flavors but without the thick consistency. It was more like consomme packed with the essence of a whole black chicken and further enriched with a variety of Chinese herbs.

We enjoyed the contrasting broths for lunch and hope this establishment remains open for our next visit to Singapore.

My favourite outlet for turtle soup. I used to patronise Geylang outlet more often in the past but have decided to change. The soup here is more clean tasting and it will not have a thirsty effect. The boss is the one mending the cooking station hence the quality won’t be compromised. Over here is air-conditioned which is very important as drinking turtle soup will make your body warm. Can see the uncle and aunty which used to be at Bedok Reservoir outlet. Some say it expensive but I feel it’s about paying for the price of quality food yea

Still the best food, however kinda pinch of the wallet. Somehow double the price point of those hawker outlet

Went again today and was rather shock the price increase again. However still my best turtle soup place.

Great turtle soup as last time I visited. but they don’t have soup for sharing. its all individual portion. I feel the quantity of meat is somewhat less than what I remembered.

Brought my family down to the restaurant to have our lunch together. We love their turtle soup alot as it’s nourishing and tasty. It’s a pity that they have ceased their operation at the hawker centre near our home at bedok Reservoir. Otherwise, we would have patronised it on a monthly basis (:

I would say this is the best herbal soup place I have tried. You can try pig stomach soup, black chicken soup, turtle soup with yam rice. However you can bring your own whiskey or cognac to add on the soup so to make it nice ! You can keep your bottle there and hey will give you a number to remember. The restaurant is clean and food service is great. Food comes fast and aircon is cold enough for you to drink the herbal soup without sweating ! Highly recommended and I will come again..

Had steam black chicken soup with yam rice.

Chicken was cooked to the right tenderness. 有口感. Soup was thick and tasty. Yam rice was not too hard with generous serving of yam. Chilli was nicely flavoured and too watery.

In addition, area is very clean and service is good. Good place for soup.

One of the best turtle soup. Strong herb flavour and the soup is fantastic . Not cheap for a bowl of meat and skin at $30. The portion is little and can’t hardly fill the tummy. Nonetheless the soup is really worth trying. This shop has been here for over thirty years.

  162. Avatar photo

Price has gone up, but that is ok, if the quality is maintained. Ingredients in the 30 dollar bowl of soup was sufficient, but, the soup was quite diluted! The soup is what I crave for and like my mum remarked, no need to crave anymore. Not comparable to the past standard.

Had you ever tried a turtle soup? Well, this is my first and wow – it tastes like nothing I had before.

-Flavour – savory peppery soup with a of parsley perfected in decades
-Texture – the meat is soft, gelatenous. The turtle egg is soft but norhing like regular egg, slight texture of a fish roe
-After taste – surprisingly none. This is what Im v. reluctant at first: what if there’s a stench. Surprisingly, there is none
-Price: the small bowl $25 is good for 2. It is ultra filling specially with their sticky yam rice. The small family of 3 seated next to me shared the medium-sized bowl $30
-Crowd: I came during lunch, quarter to 2 and it’s pack. Prolly bec. it’s the first day of the week that they are open (Sun/Mon close).
    -Recommended for adventurous foodies
Bonus: this bowl of turtle soup is rich in collagen. ‍️

I’m comparing Tai thong outlet with Geylang Lorong 21. Geylang lor 21 is much better. Yam rice using better quality rice. Soup is balanced and not too much ginger like Tai Thong Avenue.

Seems like there’s inconsistency in quality though the brand is the same.

The outlet in Geylang Lorong 21 is of good quality.

The creator of this brand should go to all outlets to check and maintain good standards. This is not a cheap dish but well liked by many people.

Nice herbal turtle soup. Older generation who have visited in the good old times mention that the herb flavor is not as strong as before. As a lover of turtle soup, this is one of the worst. It is pricey and the soup is seriously blend.

I walked in today as the eateries around are all closed. But nope… Bad choice.. The meat is tough and overly cooked. The only reason why it got 2 stars, they have rare finds like turtle egg and turtle intestines.

If you just need a bowl of turtle meat soup with no need for innards, I would recommend the turtle soup in toa payoh lorong 7 hawker instead.

From the days 1990 when they operate without air-conditioning till today, Ser Seng Herds Turtle Soap truly uphold to the standard, all parts of the delicacy could be seen in great solid pieces ( you know what i mean when you visually compare to others which are minced or overcooked ).
Soup is thick and great match to either white or yam rice, you could add another bowl of rice to compliment the broth after you finish the collagen rich turtle .
choice of meat, skin and egg combined or separate.
