Completed in the 1980s on the plot previously occupied by the Joo Chiat Wet Market. It is building that houses shops on its first 4 levels, office units on 5th level and above that are 3 HDB blocks of residential.

Since situated in the Geylang Serai district you can find many shops own by the Malay community offering goods and services related to the Malay culture. There is a supermarket on level 1 and you can also find many textile shops here.

I often come here to buy kitchen utensils, curtains, it is a place I am familiar with. . . This area used to be called “Geylang Car Front”. There used to be two bars here: Changi Bar and Joo Chiat Bar. My parents used to do business here. My alma mater, Huaxia Public School, and an open-air theater where we used to go to theaters when we were children are also in the back. Including my former residence is also around here; when you come to this area, you will often meet old friends, old neighbors, and old classmates. . . . . . .Because, this is our “old place”!

Nice place, decent stores and good prices but the highlight is Singapore’s annual Ramadan Fair in the vicinity. Then it’s amazing! Pretty good food court upstairs. It’s old but neat and organised.

The place looks exactly how it was 30 years ago. However, you’ll still be able to find things that you can’t get elsewhere.

Isn’t this an annex building to the Joo Chiat Complex (JCC)? Or just a name beyond JCC. To me SAM is simply virtual, non-existent and it is just creating more confusion than helping shoppers or travellers.

Plenty of shops selling cloth and curtains. NTUC. Goldsmiths shops aplenty also. They are selling a big selection of jewelry, gold necklaces and trinkets. Sale of diamonds where the shop display its price list at its window. Renovation contractors are also located here. Few watch shops. Favorite places for malays to do shopping. Some shops sells malay perfumed and stuff related to them. Very popular during the month of Ramadan. Crowded and give a festive mood. Well located toilets. Bad points are escalator only go one way upwards. Coming down is by stairs and elevator. Reasonable parking fees. Parking lots are divided into season and public. The best lots going to season parking. Halal food centre is located at the back. No indication that there is one or its location.
