If you are a veg lover, there’s 妙益素食馆 on the 3rd floor at your service. They moved here from Coronation Place at Bukit Timah. In addition, there are TCM clinics on the ground floor if you need chinese medicine. On the 5th floor, there is also a line of book shelves selling books ranging from classics, history, cooking, fengshui, etc all in chinese. Shopping at People’s Park Centre is like walking through shops in the eighties… Interestingly old-fashion but unique in its own way.

In People’s Park Centre, there is an excellent traditional dessert cafe, “Tong Shui” which in Cantonese literally means “Sugar Water”. I have been making a special trip there over many years to get my Cantonese dessert fix. Their Cantonese desserts remind me of my years in Hong Kong. They also have many local desserts like Bo-bo cha cha, Cheng Teng and Tau Suan. We were there for the ginger tang yuan soup dessert(fillings of peanut and fillings of sesame) during the Winter Solstice. We also had red bean soup with gingko nuts. They were both excellent. The place can get crowded during lunch hours. Do not expect 5 star service. You pay at the cash counter, and the dessert is delivered to your table. Take note of your table number before ordering.

Classic. Everything about this place is living history … the hawker stalls and uncles and aunties running them, the weird little shops selling trinkets and what not, the random kopitiam on the corner with the old pensioners shooting the breeze, and the maze like labyrinth of halls and stairways that makes you forget where you are and give up on ever finding your way back.

There’s just something about this place that brought back bittersweet memories. Nevertheless, the fond memories this place gave me was more than the bitter ones so I still find myself wanting to come back here.

Life is such…when times are hard, we struggled but we come up even stronger and more resilient than before. And after we do, we cherish and am grateful for those fond memories even more.

And coming here is easy for me since I’m staying on the North-East Line and I can either alight at Outram or Chinatown stop when I take the MRT.

Basement food court at People’s Park Center. This stall is in the corner food court. Not to be mistaken with another one in the basement food court in the middle.

To me. This is one of the best prawn noodles in town. Always a queue during lunch hour.

Broth is rich and umami-ish. I’ll always add sliced chilli. And nowadays ill also ask them to add their chilli paste to the soup. Once you stir it in. Ohh. The added kick from the chilli to the broth elevates the taste of the soup. Yummy!

Low rent shopping centre with wet toilets and a $0.20 fee to enter.

The shops are mostly run down although there are a few useful shops selling vintage collectables which looked interesting but I didn’t check if prices were reasonable.

There is a food court on the lowest floor. Try the Yong Tau Foo its awesome and perhaps the Ya Kun on the first floor.

Phone repair shop Citri Mobile on first floor is great value if you want a quick repair.

People’s Park Centre is situated next to the Chinatown MRT station and therefore is easily accessible. Several bus routes that call on the bus stops around People’s Park Centre make it easily accessible.

Situated in the heart of Chinatown, it’s believed to be amongst the earliest shopping centres in Singapore. It houses both residential apartments and businesses. The building has an old world charm to it.

Lots of very interesting businesses are located in this building and they include Travel service, hair salons, Geomancy, money changers, pharmacy, shoes, opticals, TCM clinics and businesses specialised in selling collectibles, Chinese herbs .

You can find delicious Chinese food here. The building is reportedly slated for redevelopment.

A very quaint part of Chinatown, just next to State Courts. Some cheap makan stalls here, a few Chinese medicine shops and many offices of Law Firms on the 4th floor. Do note that not all lifts go that 4th floor, so you will need to look for the signs that indicate which lift goes there.

The car park entrance is rather steep, it goes from Ground level, directly up to the offices on level 4, so it’s good if you are there to visit a lawyer.

There is a tiny, open loading bay at the roadside next to the taxi stand, so if you are driving a lorry larger than 10ft, it is going to be difficult to unload here, as only vans and 10footers can fit. Also it is an open loading bay, so if it rains, your goods get wet.
