Quality of the food and service is good and the place is pretty kids friendly. Some people might find the food too bland but it is without all those sauces that you can taste the skills required to make the food. Sauces are served separately if required.

I don’t think their food is of value.
They have many types of Japanese food, but in each category choices are very limited.
We ordered a beef hotpot, there weren’t many ingredients in the pot and the soup was very very salty. A 3 dollars add on of Udon to the pot was just a tiny portion. We also had a soy milk tea, but it was like two sips of the drink then you are done. I mean restaurant needs to be more generous when mastery of culinary skills is not there.
My friend told me Ootoya in New York is doing great. But here in Singapore from my experience it is nothing but mediocre and mean.

It was a feast with the Dinner Set! Huge portions, delicious Japanese fare. We loved the Torotoroni with its thick umami soup. Oyakodon was fragrant and great on the chew. Staff service was a little intimidating at times, but overall experience was still good.

Visited Ootoya at off-peak dinner times and only 1 wait staff is managing the <5 tables and delivery orders.

Chawanmushi size shrinked, but love the refillable multi-grain rice and miso soup concept.

The Pork Katsu Toji and Kara Kurozu standard is consistent.

  30. Avatar photo
    Mingli Lin

Food quality is not bad. A chain store from Japan. Portion size is good enough for the set. But the chawanmushi steam egg size can increase. It’s always too small.
Understaffed so the waitress was running around and service a bit slow but understandable.
Pricing is ok and reasonable. Good that there’s promotion with rewards points. But it’s covid time, wish they don’t have to touch our phone to key in the reward pin code.
They also have delivery. Which is good for parties or gathering. Ordered for delivery a few times. Nice. Will purchase delivery or dine in there again in future.

+ Food was delicious, portions were large, and price was reasonable.
+ Able to dine sitting on the floor for that authentic Japanese dining experience. Tables and chairs available for those who find sitting cross legged for awhile uncomfortable.

I’ve been coming here for the better part of 5 years, and I’d really have to say that my most recent visit was quite terrible.
I found no issues with the service, but the food left a lot to be desired – the tamagoyaki was obviously frozen, since it still had bits of ice when I bit into it. The chawanmushi must have been in the steamer since the industrial revolution, since the top layer had completely dried out. The soba was okay, though.
I really liked this place when it first opened, but quality has fallen off a cliff, which is a real shame.

The chirashi Don is my all time favourite and I am so happy they have a mini-version so food won’t go to waste for small eaters like me. The food was wonderful! Only service is inconsistent. Some days they are good, some days not so good, depending on the crowd in the restaurant. Though they are not as good as the Ootoya at Marinoa and Sasebo, still good when you miss food in Japan.

Authentic tasting Japanese cuisine. You will see a fair number of Japanese eating there – so you can be sure in terms of freshness and taste it passes their quality standard. Try the grilled hoke set, it’s quite good.

However for the price I feel it has declined in terms of value over the years. The chawanmushi no longer comes made in the porcelain bowl, but is made in a metal container that is then inserted into the porcelain bowl. We’ve had on occasions where it was cooked at too high a temperature (texture had bubbles instead of being smooth from steaming).

Love everything in Ootoya. From the comprehensive set meals to the freshness of the food items. If only the chawan mushi is bigger though. It’s such a small portion it left us craving for more.ove my grilled chicken salad. The chicken was so juicy with the slight charred taste. The salad was so substantial that I shared some with my husband. The homemade salad sauce of carrot and sesame is so yummy. I scrapped up every drop. Love the multi grain rice too. Will go back soon to try other dishes.

Food is superb, sashimi was fresh. We went slightly after lunch hour (2+pm), so service was good and decently fast.

Had the milk tea, which was just lipton tea and a little cup of milk n honey (? Sugared water?). We had their 5 sashimi, which was fresh, and the shrimp just melted in my mouth. A little pricier though. They used to have beef / cow tongue, but apparently, that got taken off the menu.

The Oyako Don was on point too. Rice was moist and hot, chicken mixed well with egg, a little bit was semi raw, which was juicy.

    Overall, well recommended.

Our family visit this restaurant quite frequently. We have lived for a lengthy period in the original Ootoya land – Japan – and therfore, our whole family loves Japanese cuisine.

Though the food here is definitely not of the SAME level with what we enjoyed in Japan, Ootoya Clementi comes relatively close to the “Hon-mono” (‘real deal’ in Japanese). (Though, I must say the Machcha Warabi Mochi dessert needs more improvement) .
Despite that, the main dishes made of fish, various meats and a vast array of choices of side dishes and desserts make the dining experience at Ootoya a really joyful one. The most important fact about eating at Ootoya is the healthy food they serve. The price is also very reasonable.

The restaurant is nice, clean and well kept. Some might find it a bit too dark inside. The staff are courteous and efficient. Being frequent customers some of them seem to remember our family and treat us friendly, which is very kind of them.
If you are keen to try Japanese cuisine, then you must dine at Ootoya. I guarantee you that you will have an enjoyable culinary experience.

Food is good. I have seen Ootoya in Japan but never got to try it. There is room for improvement in terms of service as I believe some of the waitresses do not understand English. kudos! Tofu Salad is actually one of my favourites there with the pricing at $6.90 and of decent portion, but other food are pretty nice too

Good japanese food is hard to come by in the heartlands. This is about as good as it gets for a HDB town.

This is always my favourite restaurant for the yummy, home cooked taste food.

However there is one server who is extreme rude which I met 2 occasions.
1st visit: She was extremely rude and knocked on my table when talking to me. 2nd visit: I feedback that the fish is not fresh, she responded this type of fish is like that.

In my 2nd visit, I manage to share my feedback to Rubi and she understand. Her service is very nice and conversation went well.

I hope the next time I go, I will be serve by Rubi. She makes the dinning truly enjoyable.

Generally spacious and has a variety of food on menu (set and none set) including loving their option 5 grain rice (healthier option). Set with meat or fish as main comes with rice(usually free flow), pickles, soup and chawamushi. Their chawamushi is tender and not over or undercook.. cold udon is chewy and oyakudon has sauce slightly on rice which makes it tasty. Chicken taste decent too.

It was a very nice experience with very tasty food. The beef was perfect the flavours were Devine though a tiny bit salty, still well worth it. The tea sake and soup were all served very hot.

    Tried the grilled pork teishoku.
Taste: Nicely charred. The cut portion is well balanced with fats and meat.
Location: Convenient since linked to the mall.
    Service: Decent.
Comparing the quality of food in the mall, I will choose this for its better standards.

Do you mind to ask your foreigners staff speaks english or japanese in a your japanese restaurant? Its quite awful when u hear them shouting in their native languages. Please improve on that.

Waited for 30-40 mins for my food.

    Which is very uncommon

Visited Ootoya at off-peak dinner times and only 1 wait staff is managing the <5 tables and delivery orders.

Chawanmushi size shrinked, but love the refillable multi-grain rice and miso soup concept.

The Pork Katsu Toji and Kara Kurozu standard is consistent.

There’s only 4 pieces of beef in the beef stew. Surely you can be more generous? I posted a picture. And it looks half eaten but I just shifted things around abit. And the waitress confirmed that’s the normal serving size. I’ve been supporting the brand since it just started in orchard central, there’s great taste but this is really disappointing. Please do something about it so I can change my review.
