It is really crowded during lunch time. Some stalls are closed after lunch time so the options are more limited during dinner time. My favorite stalls are chef’s wok and noodles stalls!! Price is much cheaper than food outside nus. The portions are huge too, super value for money! Unfortunately not all foods are good, but they are still acceptable. Many students hang here to do their assignments cos it’s well ventilated, esp for students who can’t stand strong AC. Also loveeee that all stalls accept paynow or favepay or google pay so i don’t have to deal with coins! I think the canteens are only open for NUS students and staffs as we need to present nus green mark to be allowed dine in. Overall i likeeee this science canteen.

Personally, I would like to recommend the noodle stall. Go for the pork rib noodle, good taste & springy noodle. Else, the wanton noodle is great. U’ll never ever get 3 wanton at $2.50(pricing increased due to inflation) as big as the soup spoon. The soup has a gingerly taste is good as ginger will get rid of excess ‘wind’ from our body. BTW, it was also highly recommended by colleague that the wanton mee here has 古早味!
The other stall will be the chicken rice, would recommend duck noodle selling at $2.60(yet to update) .
As for the kopi stall owner Mr Uncle Wong if I m not wrong, i nicknamed him 周伯通as he could serve few students concurrently exchanging coins with his both hands.
Do not go for Tom Yum soup, very diluted.
Small serving for a price in NUS.
Quite spacious & airy after renovation. Good place for dining.
*uodate: was there on Friday 6.30pm, many stalls are closed.

Dont go to the chinese stall, u’ll get a terrible food poisoning, how they prepare the food is just atrocious, pouring the food out from literally a pail bucket and leaving the food out exposed for long period of time. Its also quite expensive (when its a long queue apparently ur food is double the price, cos too lazy to count) and portion is small. Theres one time the woman shouted at me for not telling her its dabao when i alr told her 2 times b4 that, worse cs ull ever get. This is the kind of stall where auntie is always right, customer is always wrong. #uncle roger.
Other stalls are more worth it, mala small spicy=no spicy. indian food is good and widespread. Korean food is also not bad, very kind uncle, and considering it to be quite cheap; wanton mee the best deal out of the whole canteen. drink stalls are vfriendly.

Very few choices of food in Frontier Canteen Phase 1. While phase 2 added a large variety of stalls, a number. Of the stalls were simply shifted from another canteen around NUS, lacking anything novel to offer.
Coffee at the phase 2 area is as bad as coffee at the phase 1 area, so your best bet for decent coffee is still either Kopitiam at NUH, or thee canteen at Yusof Ishak House.

Been eating here as a poor student and now working adult and I must say that the taste from 15 years ago and now is pretty much the same for me. I mainly frequent the noodles stall and the taste has amazingly remained the same. The only thing that has changed is the price but this is a global contagion issue.

There used to be some vegetables but now it costs $0.60 to add it.

I’ve added 2 photos, of course the other photo has vegetables added but it cost the same as current (due to inflation).

The same stall “uncle” is still here with his ultra friendliness and fast hands to prepare your food. The menu has remained the same and the queue is always one of the longest but they are able to efficiently serve you the food without compromising the taste.

Prices here are way more affordable than some university right in the heart of the city. The student pricing is only with a meagre 10% off and the food 6 years ago was already 3-4 times the price of what you can get here, I can’t imagine how unaffordable it is now with the inflation issue.

Kudos to the school and the stalls for trying to keep prices really affordable and quality consistent.

One of the many canteens around NUS. It has the air-con and non air-con area. This canteen is also patronized by staffs from the nearby offices — so do expect quite some crowd during lunch time. It is one of the cheaper dining options on the NUS Campus.

The food stalls (non-air con area) here include:
    1. Juice
    2. Drinks/Snacks
    3. Western
    4. Roasted meats
    5. Mala
    6. Nasi Padang
    7. Wok (Stir-fried dishes)
    8. Thai
    9. Japanese
    10. Korean
    11. Mixed Veg Rice
    12. Vegetarian
    13. Noodles
    14. Yong Tau Foo
And, some others in the air-con area include:
    1. Pasta
    2. Ayam Penyet
    3. Liji Coffee House
    4. Taiwan Ichiban
There may be some other stalls which I might have inadvertently missed.

As for the non-air con area, the food is generally very affordable.

At the Noodles stall, the pork ribs noodle is very enjoyable. The portions are generally quite generous for its price. The pork ribs itself is tender and is well braised. You can also opt to add char siew, egg, wanton (at additional price) to your liking. They also offer lor mee, topped with fried dumplings, fish cake, ngoh hiang, and half a braised egg. The gravy is quite enjoyable. If you prefer something soupy, go for their Ban Mian/Mee Hoon Kway/Mee Sua/Ee Mian instead. The soup is filled with egg, vegetables, dumpling, and balls of minced meat.

At the Roasted meats stall, they offer a meat platter (2 or 3 types) from a selection of roasted chicken, roasted duck, char siew, and shao rou. They also have soy sauce braised chicken wings rice (comes with 2 piece of wings) at $3.30. The wings are well braised as the braising liquid seeps through the meat. They also sell pork ribs (in char siew seasoning). The meat is not the most tender, but it is good, seasoning wise. For additional ‘toppings’, they offer chicken liver & gizzard, tofu, egg, among other meats.

At the Yong Tau Foo stall, one bowl has to have at least 6 pc. Each piece is quite generous, especially with the vegetables. They also have fried fish and the fish is quite chunky. You can also order for additional carbs, such as noodles, mee sua/mian xian, rice, among others.

At the Vegetarian stall, they sell noodle/rice sets. I tried the olive rice set and it was good. It has mock meats cooked in various sauces (char siew, sweet sauce), cut bean curd strips, fried tau kwa, and mock goose (zhai e). They also sell vegetarian spring rolls — which are quite big and well-seasoned. However, it unfortunately is rather oily.

At the Nasi Padang stall, they sell nasi lemak with chicken wing, egg, and sambal. The chicken wing is coated with batter and deep fried. The nasi lemak itself is quite good – well seasoned and not too clumpy. The sambal is sweet and not too spicy, which I like. You can also order other dishes with rice. Some that I’ve tried include the ayam masak merah and sambal goreng. Both the dishes are not particularly spicy and tended to be on the sweeter side — which I do enjoy.

At the Western stall, they are selling garden greens salad. It is quite generous as a side dish or a light lunch. The chicken chop is also quite good and comes with three sides. The coleslaw is good. They also have fried chicken and the chicken itself is quite large. The batter is crispy and seasoned quite well.

At the Japanese stall, they have omurice, or simply white rice wrapped with thin layer of egg. I tried the one paired with chicken teriyaki — the chicken was tender and relatively juicy, but was slightly salty.

At the Wok stall, they sell a variety of stir-fried dishes. I’ve tried the seafood white bee hoon — the soup is very tasty and the seafood is fresh. The prawns are crunchy and the squid is not chewy at all.

At the juice stall, they have a variety of juices, my favorite one being soursop and dragonfruit juice. You can request for a small/large cup, ice/no ice, and sugar/no sugar.

At the aircon area, I tried from the Taiwan Ichiban. I tried the Chicken Teriyaki and the Sweet and Sour Chicken. The teriyaki sauce is sweet with strong garlic taste. The sweet and sour sauce is indeed sweet and sour, with slight spiciness.

Open to public (like most university and polytechnic cafeterias) and cheaper than normal food courts, teritiary school food courts like these are a great secret for lunch if you are close by. For example, you can also eat at Kent Ridge building nearby with the usual mall food and snack outlets but why not take the free NUS bus from KR MRT down two stops to the Science Faculty? Get off at LT27. There’s a small public car park right in front, if you can get lots, and one other bigger one that is just opposite the road (2 minutes work). Bus stop right in front. Food options are OK, and there is an air-conditioned section. All prices are generally $1 or more cheaper than your usual Kopitiam. Go when there is less student traffic around and it is quite a nice lunch option.
