Bought prata the last time I was here. The cost is very reasonable at $1+ (without egg). It is not your readymade ones but handmade whenever you order.

    September 2022:
As universities start their academic terms, all the stores reopened for service. The mala and chicken rice store add variety to the offerings here.

    December 2022:
End of the academic term and students moved out from their hostel rooms. Expect also variety of food to be reduced.

    Zion Ramen($5.80)(Miso Tonkotsu)
Cheap and tasty. Soft noodles in savoury soup; topped with narutomaki, black fungus, spring onion, crunchy flavoured bamboo shoot, seaweed, ajisuke tamago and 3 moderate slices of flavourful fatty pork belly cha siu with chewy tender meat & melt in the mouth fats.

    Fried Chicken Curry Rice($5)
5 regular crispy tender chicken karaage relaxing upon a pool of everyday mild spicy Japanese curry roux with plenty amount of onion, potato and carrot while enjoying a view snowy mountain of pearl rice.

    Mixed Biryani Rice($5)
Cold but okay rice. Long bean soft. Curry mutton okok. Mutton not tender and too gamey. Lentil is good and a little spicy.

This canteen is one of the closest hall canteens to the NTU teaching blocks and NIE. It is usually not crowded during lunchtime, when Canteen A, Canteen B and the Quad Cafe are swarmed with people. As a hall canteen, the options here are less varied than the main canteens. Unlike other canteens where you pay at the stall, in this canteen the stall owner gives you a slip of paper with the price written on it, and you pay at the cashier. (There is only one cashier in the whole canteen, but the cashier is usually fast.)

    Latest update as on 10/08/2022:
The Indian canteen food is generally good and economical.
The service staff however lack social skills and is unaware of her surroundings I believe. I ordered my prata first. She gave masala dosa and other things to people who ordered after me. After waiting for 15min, upon seeing this, I went upto her and asked. She outright bluffed telling that I ordered after them and is willing to give my money back without even me asking for it. I , as a regular customer to Ananda Taj and this canteen ever since it got opened, was taken aback. I’m in a rush to go back to work and this lady is denying me food . I felt bad as She raised her voice on me, moreover in-front of other customers. Even after I told that a couple of people who got their food are my colleagues working in the same building and I saw them order after me. Hope the management does something about this.

Located near hall 16 hence the name.
Indian, Chinese, hot plate, hotpot and May more in both veg and non veg versions is available.
    Budget friendly .
    $-$$ range.
A few of the stalls are B rated in terms of hygiene and cleanliness.
Bathroom available within the food court.
    Hand wash area too!

The best place for Indian food inside of NTU. The portion sizes are low in that stall but so are the prices. The guy doesn’t charge extra for takeaways. Their chicken, paneer and kadhi are the most popular items on the menu.

The Japanese stall nearby is good as well. Try the ramen they have. Tastes wonderful with their add-on spices. The mala place in can 16, however, is a big disappointment. Wouldn’t try it again.
