It’s a very traditional Japanese outfit, patronized by quite some Japanese themselves. This place is known for their Okonomiyaki and Monjyayaki, which are essentially Japanese pancakes on hot plate. Most tables here come with a hot plate in the middle, except their private rooms. The restaurant faces the river, instead of the main roads.

Ordering their Okonomiyaki and their Monjyayaki would be a no brainer for this place. They can cook it for you, and they can walk you through how you enjoy it as well. Pair it with some sake, and you should have a good business dinner throughout the night.

To be absolutely frank, quality of the food is only slightly above average, but not outstanding. Their menu is a little hard to read, which may cause some of their star items to be missed during ordering. I especially like their tori garlic, which is chicken cooked in garlic sauce, on a hotplate.

Some bigger issues I encountered were, 1) if you don’t eat their Okonomiyaki or Monjyayaki, you’re better off elsewhere because the hotplate takes up 80% of the table space, making it difficult to order anything else. 2) the smell of the hot plate staining your hair, clothes, and bags, can be quite annoying post-meal. Not as bad as if you went to a kbbq, but it’s still quite evident when you leave the restaurant.

Good food and izakaya vibes. But the service was at best haphazard. The staff were all over the place; and service was patchy.

There’s a grill at each table for frying pancakes (okonomiyaki & monjyayaki). But don’t expect any help from the service staff. They’ll simply leave a bowl of raw ingredients at your table and walk away.

FYI, from YouTube, the 2 pancakes are meant to be cooked slightly differently.

We asked for help with cooking an okonomiyaki. After putting the pancake mix on the grill, the waitress rushed off to do something else and forgot about our pancake.

Of course, the pancake got burnt on one side. When we told the waitress, she rebutted “actually, it’s not burnt” – completely unapologetic.

Food was decent; but unfortunately we were quite put off by the service.

A good place to chill and having Japanese food.

We enjoyed the Tori karaage($16),Daikin salad, soba meshi($20), sashimi (Kanpachi $38 and salmon $28; fresh, tasty but small serving).

We are pleasantly surprised the beer mug is really chilled with a thin layer of frosty ice that keeps the beer at right temperature for enjoyment. it’s priced reasonably $10

It provides good and attentive service and ok pricing.

    Make reservation to avoid disappointment.

Had a dinner here on a Friday night. Atmosphere was nice, the outdoor place was cooling and relaxing.

It was really tough to get an attention by their staff. I waited for almost 15mins before I could have my order.

The food was great. I highly recommend the tofu mentai cheesecake. The waiting time for both okonomiyaki and monjayaki is long so please order first.

Overall the place is a nice place if you have no rush and want to relax. The only issue is service. Hope they improve next time when I visit.

Terrific food and ambiance next to the river. The Osaka style menu is authentic, had great variety and consistently updated with seasonal items. The restaurant is also very child friendly, providing our daughter with complementary juices and french fries to keep her entertained. Only thing is the service can be quite slow with long wait times for food. We usually try to go early (before 7.30pm) to avoid the long waits.

More expensive than you might expect from the google reviews, if you are ordering in izakaya style.

However I only came here for the grilled cheese mentaiko tofu and ordered a prawn okonimiyaki. The okonimiyaki came almost an hour late.

Waited for nearly 1hr 30min for my monjyayaki and they served my dish to the wrong table… hence i decided to cancel because they said it would take another 15 minutes to make a new one -.-

DIY okonomiyaki was fantastic. Would highly recommend the mentaiko okonomiyaki. If you have a JCB card, the one for one promotion ends at the end of June so it’s really worth it if you have a promotion! Otherwise it’s a little pricey

Authentic okonomiyaki / monjya-yaki restaurant. Probably the last thing I expected in Singapore but they are “legit”. Good nibbles selection, typical Japanese izakaya drink menu and so on… By far one of the most Japanese restaurant I have ever visited in Singapore. A little overpriced for this genre of restaurant but worth paying for.

This is a recommended okonomiyaki restaurant for expats from Japan. This is not a formal teppanyaki restaurant or an Asian fusion okonomiyaki restaurant, but a genuine Japanese okonomiyaki restaurant. The menu includes typical appetizers (octopus wasabi, mozuku vinegar, squid geso, etc.) as well as okonomiyaki, monjayaki and teppanyaki. Sake is also available, and you will be captivated by the feeling of returning to Japan.
It’s a little pricey, but if you think you’re eating authentic Japanese okonomiyaki, it might not be that much. However, if you order alcohol, the price will jump up immediately.

Service quality is patchy at best. I do understand that F&B needs to do everything to maximise revenue, however calling your guests 1 hour before reservation that he has just been relegated to an outdoor table is totally unacceptable. If that is how the restaurant wants to treat customers, I can take my $ and spend it elsewhere.

Love the atmosphere, the people who run it and the food. The great thing about Nanjya Monjya is their willingness to help you find and discover the taste of Japanese food in a very family like feel.
For me it is more so being a vegetarian they really go out of their way to ensure this.
The menu is good for vegetarian and made easy with clear listing.

Heard many great things about it so decided to give it a try.

Two pax, ordered pork monjayaki, garlic fried rice and grilled squid.

Service was terrible. They had 10 people running around in the restaurant and yet it was difficult to get any of their attention. This happened to the tables around me as well.

The monjayaki was so lame. Since it seems to be their signature dish, I thought it would taste better. But to be frank it was very average.

The grilled squid came with a sauce that was very fishy. I guess it is decent if you are into grilled squid.

The garlic fried rice was ok. Probably the best out of the 3 dishes. However, I think pepper lunch does Japanese fried rice much better.

Overall, will not come again. I see that it is always packed and all so I guess people come here to chill and drink. If that is up your alley, you can give this place a try.

Very suitable for families and casual friends get-togethers. We chose outdoor seating to enjoy the evening ambience and river breeze. Waiting staff were really friendly and gave my son free OJ and french fries which made him one happy boy (critical to enjoying a peaceful and pleasant dinner when out with him) – it doesn’t take much to please a family table! Food was definitely above average, and I feel that both food and alcohol were very reasonably priced for the location. One thing to take note of though, is to try to order all your dishes at one go – they can get quite busy into the peak dinner time and the items you order later might take quite long to be served.

Food is good, serving was a tad slow, probably cause they had big groups of people doing 忘年会. Tad pricey and the smell after you leave lingers on your clothings if you get an indoor seating, recommend outdoor since it’s near the river and tends to be pretty cooling outside during the night. Bigger menu than places like seiwaa. A tad expensive though, easily 70 over per pax.

Daikon salad with salted sardines is refreshing and appetising.

The Monjyayaki with pork belly is rather tasty and different from its more famous cousin (Okonomiyaki).
Note: If you are seated outside along the river, the wind is strong and will make the cooking very slow.

The highlight of the meal is the steam rice in metal pot. Can’t remember the name, and didn’t see it on menu posted online. Maybe it is a new item.
Took about 40 min to arrive (stated in menu), but it was worthwhile.
The taste is simple, clean with the natural sweetness of ginseng. Manage to showcase the flavours of the indredients.
    Highly recommended.

Pardon the poor quality photos as they were taken in low light environment.

The Japanese ladies that originally started this small chain those years back have done well

For those preferring japanese with a mixed variety of styles then this is a good choice, perhaps influenced more by kansai though, but with plenty of ease to eat dishes – one thing we like about here its the eclectic mix of regional japan foods (ease to eat here than in Japan!). Depending on your visiting time there can be a predominance of Japanese living in the area and which makes for a good ambiance

    This place gets very busy.

We have only ever been here for dinner and usually always sit outside and on the tables to the end of the restaurant (towards the chinese restaurant) as we are usually with friends who bring their dog!

First time trying Monjyayaki. I think I prefer okonomiyaki, thought the Monjya would be thicker/ chewier but seems quite thin.

    Things I ordered:

    – Monjyayaki
    – Mix Seafood (a little basic)
    – Spicy Cod Roe and Rice Cake (tasty, rice cake is especially nice)

    Sides:
    – Corn Cream Croquette (super good!)
    – Yaki Gyoza (okay)
    – Grilled Young Yellow Tail Cheek with salt (super good!!)
    – Grilled Chicken with garlic (not worth)
    – Potato Salad (okay)
    – Deep fried bean curd with amber sauce (okay)

Perhaps we ordered the wrong dishes, may come back to try again!

I’m not very good at foreign local food, but this restaurant is not “Japanese style” or “Japanese food made by foreigners”, but real Japanese food.

Especially fried chicken is the best! Ginger grilled pork is grilled over charcoal. Since I went on December 31st, I was able to get “New Year’s Eve soba”. We also have fried tofu, white rice and miso soup!
Naturally, the menu was in Japanese (like a typical izakaya menu) and there were Japanese staff. Even the foreign staff did not misunderstand the menu.

After some time had passed since my stay, I had just started to miss Japanese food, so I was very happy to have the meal.

I finished work after 22:00 and checked the last order time before entering the store. Last order is 23:30. Relaxing meal at the counter. There is a feeling that it is a little too much to eat alone, but depending on the item, it seems to be served in half. I asked for half a salad. If you stop at Furama or Copthorne after 22:00, you can use it as a dining room. I would be happy if the menu for one person increased.

I was so excited to have Japanese authentic pancakes so much. But staff wasn’t care about us and food. We’ve been waited for this food about an hour and taste was unsatisfying. Is this really how they cook monjayaki? What we ate as below picture that staff cooked for us looked different from the others.

The restaurant was quite stuffy, especially the indoor dinning section, when every table is cooking. Otherwise the whole experience there is quite unique compared with other Japanese restaurants.
One can try out to cook Okonomiyaki on own at the dinning table, and it is a lot of fun. There are also some meat stuffs to cook too, plus many, many others.

The outside seating area, though not airconditioned, is very pleasant to sit around with friends and family to chill in with a glass of wine or two. The Singapore river is just a short distance away, and its view is great at night from the restaurant.

This is my favorite shop that my husband and I go to almost every week since the end of CB
All of them are delicious, but you can’t miss the seafood roll, tofu mentai cheese grill, okonomiyaki, yuzu sake
Separate dessert…Basque cheesecake has recently been added to the menu, and it’s rich and exquisite as well

Inside the lively store, Mai-san and everyone else are always soothed by the wonderful customer service with a refreshing smile, and I want to go again! I think ️

They have both okononiyaki and monjyayaki self service, which is very rare to find in Singapore.

Try the curry monjyayaki. It’s a great flavour. Additionally also has traditional izakaya food. Great for groups great experience, but slightly on the pricier side. Expect to spend upwards of 65 bucks

Have you ever cook your own Okonomiyaki or Monjya Yaki? Nanjya Monjya situated along Singapore Waterfront near to Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel. It is a family-owned Japanese restaurant established around early 2000s.

You can really enjoy the taste of Japan. You can ask the staff to demonstrate how to cook the Yaki or Okonomiyaki. But personally it is best you can try to cook yourself to enjoy the experience as a chef.

It is traditional Japanese restaurant. Just remember the waiters will line up the corridor, bowing and thanking us as we left the restaurant.

The monjyayaki was good but a bit confusing as no one gave instructions on how we should make it, so we had to observe another table making theirs. We ordered sashimi which was fresh (but not cold), seafood chahan, had sake and also lots of beer. The omelette with demiglace was very well done as well along with the cheese mentai potato dish. Surprisingly the garlic chicken, mentaiko cheese and garlic fried rice were the standout dishes of the night instead.
