As a first-time visitor to the T15 Trail with a BMC gravel bike, I enjoyed the trail and the natural environment. I decided to purchase a mountain bike after several rides on the T15 with my gravel road bike. It is more stable to ride on trails with my mountain bike, so I opted to do this.

In preparation for the ride, I carried 3 bottles of water, along with cycling protective gear (POC backpack with back protector, full gloves, knee protector, elbow protector, shin protector, and helmet for mountain biking).

It is most pleasant to ride on a weekday afternoon when it is quiet and there aren’t many hikers and cyclists.

At the chestnut point washing bay, I paid 4.00 SGD to have my muddy bicycle washed. Do check their operating hours before making a trip down.

If you intend to ride along Rail corridor, I paid 3.00 SGD to have my muddy bike washed at unsprung shop, 6 Hindhede Rd.

The following retailers sell mountain biking protective gear: Integrated Riding, Unsprung, PM Cycles, Regina Specialties. In no way is this a comprehensive list.

A beautiful place to hike or cycle. Be warned that for cycling, this is an off road trail with rocks and some roots and caution is to be adviced. Keep left on the trail. Watch out for blind stops. Mountain bikers, do let your presence be known around blind spots. Had a few near misses myself as a biker. This trail leads to Zhenghua park(and eventually Bukit Timah Nature Reserve and Chestnut Park).

Quite an interesting trail which connects to Central Catchment area, through Gangsa Trail and ends at Chestnut Nature Park. Many tall trees, with some gentle up and down slope. Do wear hiking boots as the ground is not flat, but covered with gravel path. I nearly sprained my ankle this morning. As I need to rush for an afternoon appointment, I only walked to the path with the sign which indicates Gangsa Trail. The Highway is just on the right side.

The trail leading up to the Chestnut Nature Park car park offers a variety of mountain biking courses for beginners and intermediates. The Chestnut Nature Park parking lot also has restrooms, a bike rental shop, and a water station. It is a well-maintained course with several covered rest areas along the course. There are many one-way courses, so be careful. If you come by self-driving, you can start from here and run at the parking lot of Chestnut Nature Park for water supply and rest. If you’re driving, it’s more convenient to start at the Chestnut Nature Park parking lot.

Definitely a place to visit for hiking enthusiasts! You can trek/hike all the way to chestnut park. There are loads of off-beaten trails that you can go on. We went on those and were awarded with some pretty great nature sceneries. Also got so see some monkeys, monitor lizard, fishes. We also crossed some tiny streams and got our shoes muddy. Along those off beaten tracks we also met people who greeted us or kind enough to tell us where that trail was heading to.
    Definitely will return again!

Singapore has very little native forest left. This trail offers a similar experience to Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, without the hill climbs! The only issue as a jogger is that this trail is heavily used by the off-road biking community so you have to take a proactive approach and be aware of traffic coming from both directions. I was able to link this trail to my usual Bukit Timah Hill trail and then roll into the greenway. I got dropped off by taxi at the Night Safari entrance and was able to do 15kms without having to use a footpath!

This trail is a challenge to overcome as it has not only sharp rocks but bricks, glass, rock gardens and your friendly neighborhood pothole. If you find it difficult to climb due to the poor grip on the tires, you would enjoy the times you will spend crashing when riding downhill. But one thing I don’t like about this is that it is a two way road but with downhills, very likely that someone will crash into another.

Great place for beginners to try out mountain biking. About 7km long one way, starting from Chestnut nature park to Mandai. Honestly idk where the hikers go after that because it’d be crazy to walk back to Chestnut after that.

Only toilets are available at chestnut nature park carpark. So remember to do your businesses before hiking or cycling.

It may be dangerous for both hikers and cyclists as it is a shared track. Some parts of the trail can be quite narrow. Look out for one another, and KEEP LEFT. Some cyclists can be very fast, so don’t anyhow siam then stand in the middle. Keep left okay peeps.

extremely rocky trail. great for mountain bikers and hikers. sadly the only interesting thing about it, is the kampong beside the trail that had been removed. Also, some rural roads cut accross. phototaking is illegal and the entire surroundings has been annexxed and is now “owned” by the military which is extremely dissapointing. going off trail is therefore technically not allowed. the trail which is bumpy and natural, which is supposed to feel untouched I suppose, is ruined because of the protected area thing, yugh.

Starting from here heading south towards Chestnut Nature Park would be a moderate 7-8km forest trail. Not really an easy track because of the seemingly nonstop up & down terrains(mountain bikers’ favourite) throughout yet not so difficult as they are mostly mild slope, only issue is that hikers & bikers share the same path for the most part. Still an enjoyable walk as this is the closest to ‘walking in the woods’ you can get here. But for the hazard of the constant bikers passing you by, good to trek in groups so that the bikers could see you from far and adjust their speed accordingly.

    Zoo near Mandai
On weekdays, no one goes here, it is best to have someone who knows the way lead the way

Trails after heavy rain, will form small channels
There are no shelters/rain shelters, water filling stations, toilets in the forest
In the trail, there are many plants/creatures~

    like:
    Monkeys, boars, dragonflies, snails, birds..
Falling flowers all over the ground, rambutan, durian falling fruit…

Recommended to bring: sunscreen, mosquito repellent, rain gear

    05-05-2021
    Mandai

Look out for the mountain bikes bikers at the start of the trail down to chestnut. Bikers are usually very nice and generous with their morning greetings important to look down at where you are walking, that would cause a bit of a neck ache. All is well for the second half of the trail when the routes are separated for hikers and bikers.

This being a trail, of course do not expect any paved walkway. Not difficult to walk, though expect at least one steep ascend or descend (depending which direction you came from).

It’s a straight forward trail which is suitable for runners, walkers and cyclist. There might be a few blind corners which may cause head on collision but if safe practice is observed and trail etiquettes been adhered to, it would be a blissful experience connecting oneself to the nature surroundings. NParks will occasionally trim the tall grasses so that it would clear the path and obtain better view ahead of the turns.

This is a shared trail (MTB bike and hiking) that connects from Mandai T15 to Chestnut Observation Tower (Bukit Panjang). It is approximately 4.2km and would take 45 minutes on average.

Note that there is no water point, toilet, and resting hut in-between. Terrain condition is mostly flat and rocky with slight up/down hill.

In my opinion is okay for any fitness level. But beware of mountain bikers. Stay at the side of the road at all times, or walk in a line if you’re going in a group. Do not walk in the middle of the road.

Stay safe, enjoy and all the best!
