Your typical food court arena, but it is located underground of SMU so it is cleaner and lively during the day.

I ate at Mixed veg rice stall and food was good. I got the brown rice with 1 meat and 2 veggies which came out to $4.70 SGD. If you befriend a student you get the student discount.

It a place worth checking out and you get to check out the University.

Decided to give the stall a try again after being disappointed with their kimchi fried rice previously. Once again, I was discouraged from patronizing the stall after trying their hotstone bibimbap. Rice was mushy, portion very small for the price paid, pork was barely seen.

Taiwanese food was so so, quite salty because I ordered Lu Rou Fan. Compared to other places the price is affordable, and if you are student or staff you get 30c discount (you must bring SMU card or you’ll be rejected bluntly). There are other stalls teeming with students, selling mixed rice, mala, Korean, western. If you like being surrounded by young people go there.

Everything is so expensive, the portions are small, and the quality is not good either. Food takes a long time for some stores as well because the staff doesn’t prepare on first come first serve basis.

Also, students get a 10% off, yet the discounted price is hardly comparable to outside standards (i get bigger portions and better quality). It feels like only SMU’s koufu has this issue, because all other outlets I’ve been to have been decent.

Food court on the first basement floor of Singapore Management University. There are plenty of variations, including Chinese and curry-flavored stewed dishes, various Asian noodles, dim sum such as meat buns, fresh fruit juices, and salad shops. No free Wi-Fi.
Most of them are students, but the general public is also welcome. The price range is cheaper than other food courts. The soy milk pudding I bought at the fresh juice store was delicious.

Food-wise, the food court does not boast a good selection. The prices however are affordable but not to the public.
But it has that comfy appeal unlike other air-conditioned food courts which tend to be noisy and crowded. Perhaps it’s the location within the SMU that makes it rather remote, and therefore more appealing to those who prefer less noise, less clutter and more space for meaningful conversations.

It’s situated within CBD of SG (thus pricier as compared to other campus in town), so be mindful of the reviews yea?
$6 (public price) for this, students pay $5.50.

This is reviewing the newly opened Mala Xiang Guo.

I personally love eating Mala. But this store is really disappointing.

They bundle items up, forcing you to take a larger portion than you actually want. For example, the kelp. The other items are all in super large sizes, take the broccoli for example, it’s half or even whole.

The flavour itself is seriously lacking, it’s just spicy. End of story.

They have a very confusing weighing and cost system making it really hard to guesstimate how much it will cost you.

Maybe it is meant for sharing? But what about people who want to eat alone?

$15 is not worth this. Never gonna return.

    日日红 is still the best.

Found a quiet food court that is air con and not crowded. The Ma La Xiang Guo aka MLXG has a new operator and taste fantastic. Far much better tasting than the previous one. Die die must try …

Ate there for the first time. Economy rice is our version of fast food. Cheap and good.

Created for blue collar workers during my childhood. But now the 2 or 3 meat + rice in one plate has become very popular among students and white collar workers too.

The choices of dishes has expanded since. And now they even offer brown rice.

If you don’t mind eating everything in one plate with rice topped with either curry or other sauces, you will be delighted by the incredibly wide variety of typical Chinese traditional home-cooked dishes. And there is an economy rice stall in every food centre.

This one at SMU is good. Clean and fast.

A koufu as usual, students get a discount, which is great if you’re a student (or tell them you are). Usually street dancers are dancing in the corridor outside Koufu in the evenings. So there’s a free show if you’re there around that time. Just don’t attempt to give them money or feed them.

Was there around 3pm this afternoon. Few stalls were vacant. And only 4 stalls were open. Was thinking of eating the economic rice, but the stall had their dishes all laid out cold. And the server was too busy on his mobile phone rather then attend to me. So gave it a skip.

Chicken rice is really fragrant. In my opinion, more flavourful than most chicken rice in singapore. My favourite is the black pepper chicken. Has rich blackpepper flavour and chicken is tender and juicy too.

Great selection of food for good prices (under $5). Eating at uncommon times will help you beat the crowds and it can get very busy. Try the soft boiled eggs and kaya toast, national breakfast of Singapore.

Quite a number of variety here and prices are reasonable. You can get chicken rice here for $4 or toast set with eggs and drink for $2.5, pretty good for town area in aircon setting. This explains the crowd.
The place is big and there are alot of seats, cleaner are also prompt in clearing the tables.

    MORE TO COME
Economical rice – to take note of the veg with meat
Western – it’s normal. Order chicken chop if you want your order to be faster.
Korean – tried their bibimbap and soup noodles. It’s alright but the portion are on a smaller side.
Taiwanese – tried their honey chicken chop and fried shitake mushroom. It’s not bad.
Fried chicken rice – tried their fried chicken rics with mayo set. You can’t go wrong with this combo.
Yong tau foo – it’s normal
