    This is an old hotel that dates back to the 1970s. Renovations over the years were obviously carried out to keep it up to date. Our room was rather large. Might even have been a junior suite, I’m not sure but it was big.

    Letdown No. 1 :
    Owing to the building’s design, our room had an odd-shaped, raised (by about 1.5 feet) recessed area adjacent to the room’s window which came with a rather comfortable, custom-shaped cushion that could actually serve as an additional bed. The size of the recessed area, while odd-shaped could accommodate an adult of less than 1.75m in height and rather cosily so. Unfortunately, no attempt was made to vacuum/wash the cushion or so and it was dusty to the touch. God knows what kind of rash 0 might develop sleeping on this actually comfortable cushion. What a shame!

    Letdown No. 2 :
    The duvet smelled! Disgustingly so too! Jesus! Send it to the laundry, dry it in the sun, whatever! Do something!

    Not clean; old building. No drinking water provided. No many good dine and restaurants within walking distance. Breakfast is not included in the booking and the tickets for breakfast is super expensive. I will never stay here again!

    Room on the 13th floor was bad. Bed was really uncomfortable. And toilet & bath tub was horribly dirty with stains. Looks like it hadn’t been clean for 2 weeks. The ceiling near the closet was leaking and was changed to a room on the 11th which is way clean and better. Bed was comfortable as well. However the hotel service is really good and hoteliers were friendly.

    Liked the family room option which provides a queen & single bed. Great location. Cleanliness is acceptable.

    However, the AC isn’t cold and the room has a musky smell and humid feel to it which wasn’t very pleasant. The ventilation in the bathroom wasn’t working either.

    I like the way they clean the rooms and replace towels and fix the bed every time we are not around the room. There’s a water dispenser as well on the hallway with hot, cold, and warm option. There’s also a laundry room where you can do the laundry on your own with available free detergent. The free breakfast buffet is one of the best thing we had on this hotel due to different varieties of food and they also change the menu everyday so you won’t eat the same food on a different day. Over-all it was a great experience staying at this hotel. 🫶

    The are positioning themselves as 4 star hotel, but in fact can’t even give you 3 star service. Hotel is old. Rooms are quite big but everything inside outdated. The checking time is after two PM and they won’t let you in before even if room is available. Staff is not really friendly. They mess up with payment and charge me twice. So If you are not for budget option – stay somewhere else. Also breakfasts are not included.

    The room is big and spacious. It is an old but gold kind of hotel.
    I stay there during business trip. It is really convenient to stay there because they are only 5 minutes walking distance from MRT station.
    It is also nearby 2 malls which is United Square and Novena Square. It is also only 2 station from Orchard. So it is really convenient to stay here.
    They offer asian breakfast and western style breakfast. Their beef porridge is the best.

    Hi one who is looking to stay in Singapore for few days and want to stay out of busy commercial place can choose “Hotel Royal ” since its in between calm residential place.staff are friendly and it’s hygienic. Food is good and service is quick. Will update hotel surrounding pics shortly.

    If you can get it at or under $100/night, this hotel is a tremendous value.

    The good: Rooms are positively enormous! By Singapore standards they are brobdingnagian! Well appointed too, with comfortable bedding. The location is excellent. 6 minute walk to Novena MRT station. 0 minute walk to the eponymous bus stop right outside. 3 minutes walk to late night casual food. The hotel itself is old, but the rooms are renovated. Mini fridge in the room, and lots of small amenities (iron, shoe horn, umbrella, etc.) Self-service (but chargeable) laundry on the fourth floor is a nice touch.

    The bad: WiFi signal is strong in each room, but the actual internet speed leaves something to be desired. During the day it’s slow but ok, but at bedtime every night it sinks so low as to be almost unusable. 24-hour coffee shop is nice to have, but is notoriously bad. Plenty of outlets in the room, but none anywhere near the bed! Staff seems to be going through the motions.

    Good location in front of bus stop. The rooms are big and spacious but lacks cleanliness and is outdated. Stained and itchy sheets, dusty shelves, and old towels. Non smoking rooms smelled like smoke. Although the staff was accommodating to our complaints and tried their best to give us a better experience and gave us room change option

    I like the hotel, it is cozy, a good place to pick to stay, it is near Novena Square and in front of it there is a bus stop. But the hotel doesn’t give a little shower near the toilet, they only give you toilet paper so for those who doesn’t usually use toilet paper you have to choose this hotel wisely. The food is kinda good, there is swimming pool, you can get a breakfast in here, but sometimes the staff doesn’t seems friendly.

    Will not recommend this hotel at all. 1st, service staff at both check in & carpark coupon counters are both not only not smiley and welcoming. In fact they appear grumpy and impatient to answer when we queried about facilities like pool usage breakfast hrs etc. We did not wish to let this affect Staycation mood and just let it go. After entering room is second dismay. The room smelled musky with an even heavier smell of sewage inside bathroom. Bathroom was old and full of stains and yellow marks in bathtub. Only could go take a look at pool after booking but take note pool only opens 1-5pm daily. Wonders why only open 4hrs daily during the most scorching hrs, not to mention 5pax limit per hr due to covid situation means one may nt get to even go in or use the pool unless advance book. Do not go to stay in the hotel, money much well spent in others. We did not even bathe and went home as its cleaner!

    Utterly disappointed. Sent an email to request for an arrangement for my partner’s birthday. The front desk manager promised in the email to send a fruit basket, together with a card with my partner’s name written on it but there is nothing on the day of my arrival! Printed out & showed the staff my email. The manager & few other staffs read my email but did nothing about it! Very disappointed!

    First, upon checking at 8 pm, I was given room number #624. When we unlock the door we found out that the room has been occupied by someone else. An Indian guy who has just finished taking his shower was shocked to see us. I apologized to him and left the room. I went back to the Reception and demand an explanation on this, but what I heard is the word “SORRY” and the male and female staff started blaming each other.

    Second, we were given room number #1217. At first, it was a pleasant, quiet, and relaxing night till at about 2 am, we were awake by water dripping profusely from the false ceiling. I suspected it came from the Air Con. When I switch off the AC, about 10 minutes later, it stopped dripping. We have to sleep the rest of our night without any Air Con.

    Wrote an email to them, what I received as a reply as usual, apologising with no Service Recovery given.

    Not Highly Recommended although it’s value for money & affordable. Poor Customer Service.

    The setting was nice for the afternoon evening we had. Concierge staff were decent, but I can tell they are sometimes overwhelmed by the guests. That said, they try to go above and beyond the call of service. Location is not too bad, but it is still a distance from the Novena MRT, although a bus stop directly in front of the hotel helps a lot too.

    I can’t say anything good about this Hotel.

    Cons:
    1) super slow – checking took 30mins when only 1 person in front of me
    2) super bad attitude – didn’t bother to help
    3) register via 3rd party system with two names, they only allow to check in when both are here. LITERALLY STUPID.
    4) very old and dirty

    In short, just suck. Can’t imagine we have such hotel in SINGAPORE.

    Nice place to stay. We stay 5 nights in this hotel. The location near shopping mall United Square & Novena Square. Novena MRT station is walking distance. The staff are very nice. Check in process very fast. The room is very large for 3 persons. But they need to improvement their old style hotel. Overall we satisfied and will comeback later

    Great big rooms and clean bathrooms. Food at ground floor prices was very reasonable.. easily accessible to a nearby shopping centre United Square for food and groceries if required.. only 5-10mins walk away…

    The hotel is very outdated and needs repairs. The aircon system is so old and loud that it is impossible to sleep. There is no mini bar or bottled water. It should be rated as a two star hotel because the only thing that is good about is its location.

    Was given a room in the 11th floor. Room was fairly clean and spacious if not dated. I would say if you’re a no frills person the hotel would be perfectly serviceable. Amenities are as basic as you can get which was fine for the $80 I paid. The internet and air con was notable very weak so if you’re planning to spend most of the day in the hotel then this might not be the one for you. Other than that I enjoyed my stay.

    Four stars because of it’s superb location. Just near enough to facilities and far enough not to be too crowded and noisy.
    An old hotel but in reasonable nick. Staff are helpful and competent.
    Decent size pool for cooling off.
    Good-size rooms with good amenities. Clean and comfortable.

    I last booked a room here in Q3 2021, checking in on a weekend.

    Check-in: 1/5. There were only 2 counters to check-in the guests. Too few, and their system is seriously outdated and slow.

    Security: 2/5. The security guard only tells people to tap their token or scan safeentry. Nothing else.
    Lifts supposedly have card readers to restrict access to guests after 12am, but it wasn’t working. Anyone can take the lift to any floor.

    Front desk: 2/5. No one came to help me take my bags. And they were not willing to help me to book the pool slot, telling me to do it from my room instead. Can do better.

    Room: 4/5. Really big, at 33 sqm is bigger than many HDB master bedrooms. Only thing missing is more chairs.
    Room is clean.
    TV quality was mediocre, but at least it can be made to accept a HDMI cable.
    Bathroom seems to have a mysterious leak in the bathtub, floor becomes flooded after using the shower.
    For those who intend to wash your own clothes, the rooms facing the main road do have strong afternoon sun. Use it to your advantage!
    There is a fridge in the room, but it never seems to be very cold. Thankfully there’s no minibar, so all the space is yours to use.

    Breakfast: 2/5 It is paid, not free. Food is alright, but cold. Better option is to walk to United Square area and eat there.

    Pool: 2/5 contains clean and cold water, nothing much else.

    Other amenities: The place does have ONE microwave oven for guests to use. Plan ahead if you plan to takeaway food and bring back to your room to warm up.

    Location: 4/5 It is easy to walk to Novena MRT. If it is raining, there are many buses to/from Novena or Newton MRT.

    TLDR/Bottom line: is alright if you want a place as a retreat or business trip, but not a place recommended for a staycay.

    The hotel is very convenience, located between Novena Square and Newton Circle and there is a bus station just in front of the hotel.. The room is quite big with refrigerator, electric pot, and the air condition is working well. The bath room is clean, no smell from the toilet and the hot water is also run well..

    It will be much convenience if the hotel can provide an electrical connector for international plug or just replace any electrical plug with the the international socket so international guest with an electronic device can easily plug in their device…

    All the staffs, from the receptionists, cleaners and room attendants to the executives are very polite, friendly and helpful. As soon as I approached the reception, the receptionist man who is from Nepal, greeted me politely and friendly. Apart from that “Alice”, the executive on duty helped us to get our room politely and friendly. The way the receptionist man and “Alice” made a good impression about the hotel. All the rooms are very clean, comfort.

    Apart from “Alice”, I must definitely mention and give a good compliment to “Angela”, the executive on duty for the night, was very helpful and ffriendly. The air conditioning wasn’t giving enough cold. Therefore I called the reception and “Angela” answered the phone and I explained the issue. She send an attendant to check. The attendant checked and reported the problem to “Angela”. She said that she would give up another room. We thought that it would be very hard for us to shift all the baggages. Therefore we said that we would like to stay in the room and we didn’t want another room

    Only minor issue was that among all the power sockets in our room, only 1 power socket worked.

    I would have given 10 stars, if there is a scale of 10 stars.

    Staff not so friendly. There was a water leak in the room so we had to change the room. They knew about the leak but they still allocated the room with wet carpet after requesting they upgraded us to a family room. Cleaners do not vaccum. Carpets are dirty and smelly!
    No good ventilation in the rooms!!
    Hotel is always filled with noisy tourists ( mostly from mainland China- no offense sorry)
    Buffet breakfast was terrible- no variety no options for vegetarians!
    There were bed bugs in the rooms!!!! Way below 4 star standards! We only booked this hotel as the location is good but regretted it later.
    No ventilation in the bathroom.

    Day Staycation , located between Newton mrt (3 bustop) and Novena (10 min walk) love the spacious room for the money you paid, it value for money. have bathtub in the room as well.
    Have the breakfast at the trishaw resturant , have 2 option for you to choose western or Chinese menu..

    Great hotel and very nice room if they manage to fully get rid of the mini-roaches in the room. There’s at least a dozen of them in room 1505 where we stayed, comes out late at night Has alot of great facilities to offer though, just be sure to check the room thoroughly before deciding to sleep there

    Poor because alot isn’t available, unlike how it’s advertised. Pool “under repair” indefinitely, no one picks up calls, wifi can’t connect, water dispensers do not work, no water bottles in rooms either.

    Hotel is good but for me the room I booked earlier didn’t get.
    Book for king size bed room but provided 2 single bed room.
    Customer service also weak . If order any grab food no deliver toll room door and we as customer need go down to collect ownself . Compare to other hotel in servicing , this hotel I’ll provide 1 of 5.

    Nothing is good except for the location. Very old hotel and didn’t have much maintenance, the towel and blanket are very dirty, there are brown/red unknown marks on the towel, n most of it looks grey and dirty, rice on the blanket on our first room, due to the leaking problem, they change another room for us, but the toilet, towel and blanket are also very dirty, bad experience, won’t come back again!

    Quite like the hotel. Room size is good, specious and had 1 king size bed and 1 single size bed. So its great for traveling with kids. Location wise is not too bad but not great either.

    The hotel is near shopping centres and a MRT. The rooms were huge for its price but the facilities are lacking. The aircoin was leaking and the aircon control was not working. The shower shelf for placing shampoo is also falling apart. Bedsheets were also stained. Hotel staff was helpful but the hotel is generally not well maintained.

    Wi Fi slow, Air Con not functioning well,seen lizard crawling on the ceiling, condense water leak from the fridge when first check in on 27/5/21.Bulb blown off when check in to transfer room, pillow stain with blood and not check by housekeeping…‍️We are not staying here for 1 or 2 days but a month…very dissapointed such 4 star hotel exist in Singapore. Not value for money to stay in .First time in my life stay in this hotel in Singapore my country and is very shameful about it. I have travel to Malaysia, Indonesia,India,Thailand and Europe before and it was superb no problem when check in to the hotel. Not coming back to Hotel Royal in my country.

    Its an old hotel, buat just enough for us to stay and have a rest after a long walk everyday. Surprisingly they provide 3 of everything, towel, soap, toothbrush, etc. A bus stop just right in front of the hotel, and smoking area at the parking area. Easily check in and out and put your luggage for later pick up.

    The exterior was quite outdated but the interior shows some renovation. One thing is that the hotel room was quite large compared to other bussines hotel in sg. And the hidden feature that the pool was not to crowded. My little one can swim freely. It a nice hotel for family.

    First time here and very excited for this staycation. This is when the nightmare started where I first stepped into the room. Baby cockroaches were spotted on the TV dresser and in the bathroom sink. Thought it was okay until at night, more and more started crawling out from the TV dresser. Couldn’t sleep in peace. Was actually terrified with those pests the whole day.

    It was late at night and didn’t want to trouble the staff since it was just a one night stay.

    Was at Hotel Royal on Christmas day. Parking is convenient and hotel is clean. Had ala carte buffet lunch at hotel level 2 Happy Joy Restaurant. Place and food is liked what we ate when we’re young. Staff were friendly and the food is really good.

    – Room facilities Eg: Kettle (if you want to cook your own water), cold fridge, working power ports
    – Drinkable filtered water at warm, hot and cold temperature available near lift (Yay~no need to cook water!! Convenient to bring water when going out)

    There are things like mattress sheets with some holes that is fine as it is worn out after multiple washing. No disposable slippers too. Only reusable basic rubber slippers. (You can choose not to use, bring your own disposable slippers). Non-working light at the fridge area. To me, no issue.

    No complains for an affordable and comfortable staycation near orchard.

    Prior to my stay, i am a little worried (looking at the poor reviews). However, i hope potential guests avoid using 5* Hotel standards when you are not paying for a 5* price at this hotel.

    I have stayed at 3* hotels paying more without basic amenities, poorly maintained super small (smoke filled) rooms, super thin blanket, hard mattress (can’t sleep) and no breakfast.

    It has all the basic necessities to make their guests stay comfortable with them.

    Maintenance efforts can be seen, where they are trying to maintain the comfort level of the room (bit by bit) with smaller profit margins compared to major hotel chains.

    I will definitely come back again for future staycay.

    Think thrice if U are patronising the Happy Joy Restaurant.
    Starting from 13th March 2022 they have the All U Can Eat Ala-Carte buffet at $39.80++.

    The pictures of the food are availble on their FB, you can take a look there.

    Those senior aunties in white shirts are super nice, friendly and attentive except one younger one ( as compared to those older aunty). She was having shorter than shoulder length straight hair, with spec and thin in size, heard her talking rudely to another aunty when she was being asked on some issues.

    1. Thier menu displayed in FB was so much different from the menu we saw. It was a disaster when we went on 13th March for lunch. It is definitely not value for money.

    2. It was like mass production. Some of the food were cooked and put into a big serving bowl( eg coffee pork ribs) on a trolley. Once they wheeled to your table, they started to distribute by picking the number of pieces for each table..
    For eg the vege soup, upon reaching your table they started to scope one portion for your table.

    One of the item, we had 4 pax but was given 3 pieces. One of the controlled dish we had to chase for it…
    When asked, the answer was wait for next round.

    Paying for restaurant price yet given hawker standard service.
    Sorry to say no garnishing, first time seeing food being distributed out in such a way in a hotel’s restaurant, ran for our missing food when saw it was dished out etc….

    3. It said ala carte buffet but items we placed order were not given until we made noise. By then already an hour later and the mood was gone.

    4. Quality food of food was average or below.
    Braised shark fin’s soup with crab meat was so watery and nothing inside.

    The pork belly bun, the pork size is halved of those u get from normal serving, no vege to go with it.

    The vege soup is really vege + water.

    For the double boiled white fungus with red dates, it was hot dessert yet when I scoped the water it was like plain water added in.
    The steamed rice with wax meat(chinese sausage) and the coffee pork ribs were the only nice ones. Maybe you will say for sure should have other more nice food, sorry to say, we were served limited items. Definitely not in ala carte buffet style…

    5. Before we can complete all our orders, desserts were already served in mass production way.

    6. We were told we can eat whatever food that was being pushed out. So meaning we must look out for the food ourselves in order to ensure they didnt miss us out.

    7.Those food that was in mass production are the controlled items… Followed by some fried beans, vege soup and coffee pork ribs. Many items on the menu were not given. So is that ala carte buffet?

    In between, we had to sit, wait and see what other food will be pushed out and must ensure they did not miss our table.

    As customer this is not within our expectation.
    Nevertheless, the Manager Jackson is super good in service recovery.

    Felt insulted after making noise, the Manager said we can continue to order until we full.
    Just wish to add on not ALL customers pay for ala carte buffet must eat to the fullest. Buffet allows a person to try out a bit of each, having variety of food.

    Well, will be first and last time for us to be here.

    A Housekeeper came in to my room without knocking or ringing the doorbell! This made me outrageous! As a hotelier myself, it was definitely the basic and logical thing that was taught to us to always ring or knock and give it a few seconds before entering a guest’s room. A housekeeper from this hotel just came in with no warning. I was so scared for my life for a moment. It was not even my check-out day. I stayed here for 3 nights and this happened in the morning after our 1st night.

    Please teach your staff the BASICS of working in housekeeping. With such work ethics, they should be working at a 1 or 2 star hotel not a 4-star. Jeez

    Hygiene: Rooms are fairly decent. However, I am giving a 1-star rating because this hotel provides used slippers to guests at a time of Covid. When I had checked with management, they informed me that it is in their hotel policy to re-use slippers for guests, instead of providing disposable ones. I also noticed that other guests were wearing those slippers during their outings – which means the slippers that this hotel reuses are literally worn by every guest anywhere & everywhere. This is unacceptable because since these slippers are not sanitized, the risks of foot infections can be high, especially for guests like my elderly parents. Though not acceptable, if it is in their hotel policy to re-use slippers, I believe they have a moral obligation to inform all guests about this in-advance.
    Service: Staff were friendly and generally helpful. However, when I approached the counter for a parking coupon the female Malay staff at the counter first ignored me, then when prompted again she rolled her eyes at me and pointed a random paper (which was already filled up with several entries, with no place to include a new entry from me) without explaining anything. When I had asked if she could speak up and explain where I could enter my details, she then realized I was not intimidated by her attitude and replied accordingly.

    I stayed here for 6d5n. my stay was horrible. the only good thing about this hotel was the location and the size of the room. otherwise, everything was very bad. asked for a king sized bed but they didn’t have at the moment hence they gave us two single bed (which we had to combine it), they told us that they will change our room the next day, but didn’t despite requesting multiple times. despite putting up, “don’t disturb” , the housekeeping staffs rang the bell multiple times and asked if we are checking out. room service is more like self service. no room service is given, had to go down ourselves to get plates, glass and utensils. the reception takes a long to answer the calls. and the house keeping isn’t done properly. my room was still a mess after housekeeping. the reception in this hotel is VERY bad and their WIFI don’t work efficiently as well. throughout our stay here, we kept trying so hard to get wifi and reception. the hotel collected deposit apart from the room rate and told us they will refund back the deposit, but till this date there’s no news from the hotel. my advise, never go to this hotel !!! the room rates are ridiculous for the service they give.

    I would say it was ok. The reception was quite usefull and the food at the restaurant was also fine, with a quite large veriety of dishes. They include a pool and some shops wich include souvenirs snacks and some essentials. The room itself wasnt very good with one bedroom, one bathroom and an extra room for who knows what, I had to change room because of the room condition but afterward it was ok. The wifi is decent and they have a great view of some of the city homes. Nearby you can find many skyscrapers, shops and restaurants, even a mall that supplies the following, Food, Clothes, Electronics, Accesories, a basketball pitch and more. I loved exploring and discovering singapore with a large veriety of subway’s, with one located in side if the mall nearby the hotel. I generally recommend marina bay as a must visit spot because of the flourishing gardens and the amaising architecture.

    Actually, i had some kind of bad experience in here regarding to my past complaint about my room’s cleanliness. However, they responded to my complaint rather well. On the next day, they granted me a new room with nice view and look what i’ve got! Some fruits as some token of their apologies. Not only that, they also sent the fruits to all my relatives that stayed in different rooms.

    Yes, i know it might be only a plate of simple fruits. However, i can sense a genuine service and hospitality in here. Thank you for making my stay as memorable as ever!

    Booked a deluxe room with request of 1 large twin bed, when I checked in they said none available. They did managed to switch me to a family room instead which had twin bed only downside is it is at a lower floor. I also managed to check in an hour before the timing given. Room was tidy and neat when I entered. The best part of the room is definitely the bathtub, however it is only big enough for an average height like me (1.7m/5’7″) so keep in mind if you are taller. Wifi is decent, not super fast but good enough for streaming videos. I also would like to compliment the room service as I called to request some utensils and they delivered to me in under 5 mins, so do call them if you need some! (see pic below). Thanks to all hotel employees for a pleasant stay.

    There was alot of hair strands in the toilet and ofc the bathub was not clean as well. There were some stainsd here and there. The room was quite big and spacious. We couldnt sleep properly ad the bed was moving. But overall i was not satisfied.

    Many cockroaches in the room! Even found in the fridge and had to throw my food away.
    Super unresponsive and slow service, takes very long to deliver anything.
    Most staffs don’t know what’s there in the hotel. Housekeeping doesn’t even know if they have hair conditioner. Came to me with shampoo and said it’s hair conditioner.
    Aircon was not cold. You could sleep without a blanket.
    Bedsheets are stained.
    Even managers aren’t well trained. Didn’t get any apology for anything.

    Room seems to be not in use for quite sometime. Counter at TV was sticky for some reason. You get that sticky sound when you lift your bag off the counter. Don’t feel like staying. Luckily it’s only one night, though the room was spacious and toiletries generous.

    Came for a late check in around 7pm. However, there was a long queue and it took us more than an hour for our turn. Our check in at the counter took only 10 minutes so I’m wondering why it is taking so long for the other guests (approx 20-40 mins each). Booked for a Double bed room but was told that only single beds were left. Oh well. Room was pretty spacious though and generally clean.

    Honestly, the staff was friendly and pleasant, aircon was sufficiently cold but the beds sort of felt too light and moved very easily just by tossing in bed, my showerhead was also broken

    Overall, quite minor complaints for what is a decent experience in this hotel!

    Toilets mouldy, stuff like bathroom curtain and ironing board rusty with dirt and mould. Looks old and weathered. Definitely not recommended even for the low price. Spend a bit more on other hotels and get 200% better quality. Check in was also way too long. Took 2 hours. Staff unresponsive and unreliable. Looks like they don’t even know what they are doing. Never coming back again.

    The room and environment already shows how old the hotel, though it was still okay for a cheap staycation.

    The toilet drainage was bad, the bathtub will still leak even with the stopper. The shower head kept leaking water as well. The Airton was already set to 15 degrees C but its feels like room temperature in the room.

    Though it’s good that they have Netflix and YouTube services. The fridge was unfortunately too small … I called reception but since the restaurant is closed, they insisted there’s nothing we could do. So I had to find a way to stuff all my food in the fridge.

    The hotel needs some cleaning up and upgrading of the equipment. And for breakfast, we were asked if we wanted Set A or B but they just served us the drinks without asking for what we wanted.

    Overall, it’s still…okay.

    I would give a 0 star rating if there’s another option. Staff are unfriendly and impatient, Met this Chinese lady at the reception counter who speaks really soft and gets angry when we get her to repeat what she said.

    after being informed to go to the waiting area for our room to be ready, we received a card to get a free drink while waiting, we were also being told that the drinks are refillable. So we when to refill after finishing our first cup, an mid age lady working there said that it’s not refillable, so we told her that the other staff told us it’s refillable, she replied us in a very rude tune “ok go lah”

    Besides the bad services, room and toilet are dirty windows are mouldy, blanket and bedsheet have lots of tons.

    Basically paying for a “2/3 star” hotel with spacious room.

    No free wifi here!

    It’s My first and the last time coming back here. Nothing good I can comment about this hotel other than their AC and spacious room.

    Just enough for a place to stay, dont expect more. Room is spacious, bed is comfy, batheoom is clean. You have to ask for the hangers though. Mineral water is outside the room where you can get yourself from the water dispenser (part of their sustainability program which i respect).
    Not sure if their workers are just a few but i found the room that already being checked out was just being opened wide from the morning I went out till night i came back and nothing changed as if it is not being cleaned but just left the door opened. Same goes to the dirty trays from in room dining outside the next door. Not hygiene for me.
    The old lady at the cashier counter was not friendly. In fact i couldn’t find anyone friendly there but the lady a bit rude when i asked question to her.
    On my departure day, someone rang the bell of my room when the DND sign was clearly still on. The room attendant said that she thought we already checked out while she should have her housekeeping report about which room already checked out or not.
    Checking out, i went to the reception bcause there was only 1 person at the counter which is at the reception and nt the cashier. But the guy was just saying “check out is at next” without even bother to hear more. In the end he was the one who check our billing as his colleague was not around (cant u just do it since the start?). They dont event ask how’s the stay as if they dont care whether their guests are happy or not. Maybe they just dont care if they dont get anymore guests coming.
    Last but not least, there is one guy (judging from the uniform, maybe he was a bellman) who was sweating a lot when we asked about direction. He could just go to the locker room or toilet to wipe his sweat for a while rather than keep being around like that which is not professional at all.
    Overall, this is a place to sleep only and dont waste your time to hang around

    One definite advantage the Hotel Royal has is its location – there is a bus stop just outside the front door which can take you to the Newton Food Centre or Orchard Rd. It is a 3 minute walk to Novena MRT.

    The rooms are OK, as you would expect. TV reception can be a little dodgy and the rooms are a bit dated but I didn’t find them too bad. It wasn’t great but it wasn’t bad either. A makeover of the fitouts and interior would do the place wonders.

    And that’s where it stops unfortunately. The pool is a lot nicer in the promotional photos and it’s a bit weird looking through the fence to the neighbouring building which has a much nicer pool and pool area.

    The fact they don’t have a hotel shuttle from the airport is a bit of a minus but overall, if you’re just using the room to sleep at night and just want to explore, Hotel Royal is an OK option.

    Time taken to process everything is extremely slow, my friend was serve self isolation there after landing singapore, and during her stay the aircon is being cut off, when she receive notice that her covid test result is negative and wanted to inform the counter, the hotline cannot be called, after getting through the hotline, my friend had been waiting for around 45 mins and still no news from the counter at all, the whole process had took her more than 1.5 hrs of waiting time and she is still waiting when i am writing the review

    Entering this hotel was an experience, the decor is really old and you feel you are time traveling to a couple of decades ago. Nice staff but terrible hygiene. The room furniture had a modern taste but there were handprints all over the place and a musty smell which was almost unbearable. The sheets were humid and not comfortable. Breakfast was to run away from, clearly not adapted to western taste (the only available sources of protein were deep-fried). The location is far from the centre but has a nice food court nearby. Do not stay here.

    The rooms was really spacious and the view was damn good! The buffet breakfast spread was really nice with a diverse options for veg and non veg. Also this place is just a 6 min walk from the Newton MRT station and also has a bus stop right in front of its grand porch – so city hopping is convenient and easy!

    The hotel doesn’t have mineral water provided. They were selling one bottle for $4.00 .
    The breakfast time was stated at 6.30am. But we came down at 6.30am and the coffee house was not even open. When we asked the receptionist, they told us to sit inside and we seated in the lights were not even on. We were seated in the dark for 10 mins and nobody approached us. The staff only approached us at 7am. We literally waited for 30 mins to take our orders. This place is not recommended. Please go to other hotels that are worth it.

    The hotel have a grand entrance. It also have a very big drop off point which is suitable for families. They also have a very vintage pub below the hotel. It is linked to a swimming pool. It have the theme of “Old Shanghai”. I would say that it attract the older folks. The drinks are priced reasonably. They offer stage performance.

    Our stay is good. Shopping malls are just walking distance. My only comments is the pool needs a booking from 1 pm to 5pm only and the kids can only enjoy the pool for 1 hr. I do know that this is due to Covid 19. To maximize the usage of the pool. I suggest they open the pool for booking from 8am to 6pm. I still give 4 stars for the convenient location.

    Rooms are very spacious. But very pathetically maintained. Not clean, Even damaged locks of the bathroom not repaired, provided torn towels and even the furnitures were very old. Maintainance is very poor. Service of the staffs are very poor. They treat as if like take if u want. They dont even product a complimentary water botle. As us to take from the cooler placed somewhere. No room service. Only attraction is the location.

    Bus stop is right in front of the hotel lobby, easy access to MRT Station. Rooms are great, bed is fine, overall is good.

    One star missing as I was left waiting for almost 2 hours for just to changing room as the air-conditioning in my room was suddenly cut off on its own without any reason.

    It’s a old hotel room located in Newton Road. You can get here from Novena MRT with walking just 5-7min. Despite old looks, the room have modern looks and big. It has a bathtub and shower. This hotel have a swimming pool in the back. For breakfast, everyday they changed a little bit of menu but for the rest they all the same. The rate is not expensive despite it is a 4 star hotel. Recommended for family vacation stay.

    Tbh, as a Singaporean I have visited many other hotels and I have actually had a better service than this hotel. Their so called breakfast is supposed to be at 6.30am, I came down at 6.45am. The coffee house itself was not even open. I waited till 7.00am for the coffee house to be open. And they do not even provide any mineral water because of covid. It is really not reasonable for them to state that because of Covid19 they are not providing mineral water. Where by mineral water is important thing for us to hydrate ourselves. And this hotel is not even providing this kind of service. I will really not recommend any one to stay in this hotel.

    One of the most spacious rooms that you can expect in Singapore…. Totally clean, well maintained and good excellent staff… Just that the breakfast has more of Chinese items than Conti ones… Overall a great hotel …. Would recommend it strongly

    I have yet to stay, but their hotline and reception quality are really very bad. Just to call to ask if earlier check-in is available , everything was told off quite badly, and you literally can hear and sense the annoyance and disinterest. I know everything has to be subjected to availability, but at least let the customers feel you guys are trying your best or at meant trying.

    I called numerous times beforehand, but if the number stated and given is not the one I need to call to enquire, why state there when I called and still having to be transferred to another line? The benefit of checking in earlier and booking out later which subjects to availability which in this cases I doubt it’ll even be a problem (due to covid and its not like the hotel is super packed or awaiting a lot of new incoming bookings) it’s like only an hour extra (for extending check-out timing).

    I just hope the management will do something about their customer service and quality when someone calls to enquire and request since the request itself isn’t really difficult.

    The star will be given based on the service I’ve received even before the stay, which I can say its pretty bad already

    My worst staycation experience ever. It took me 2 hours for the check in and the room is surprisingly dirty . Bathtub is full of dust , there is water in the kettle too when we reached the room. I was wondering , are the housekeeper really check the room before handover it to the customer? And the staff is very unfriendly when we tell the problem. So disappointed with everything here.

    The service was good. Room’s quite spacious and the TV is a smart tv. Everything is clean however the wifi internet is not accessible even if you’re a hotel guest. its not free and you have to pay quite an amount. Hence, the rating. Overall, 6/10 for a night there.

    Stay for overnight for company meeting in the area. Nice place for solo traveller. Got free upgrade to Deluxe Room when book at Agoda. Easy access to MRT station just 5 mins walk. Bus stop directly in front hotel to Somerset and Orchard. Room come with bath tub. Nice buffet breakfast especially the seaweed egg soup, not much selection but it’s ok for me.

    Very very bad service! Ive made booking in the middle of night but receptionist there want me to call Agoda Customer Service directly and she mentioned want me to change from my nickname to my real name which is i think is unacceptable!!! She still can check my name on bank card and NRIC for verification but still want to make it big issue then she continue chit chatting. Also there was no sitting area at all to wait while im calling Agoda, it tooo about 1hour plus for processing my name which is ridiculous, can hear water fountain background while i was on the line with Agoda. This is first and last, maybe can demolish this building as well!

    Stayed for 1 night in room for 3. Queen+single bed. Room is clean, spacious. Comes with bathtub. It’s okay. 5 minutes walk to nearest MRT station. Stay came with buffet breakfast. Breakfast selection is limited, boiled ham is a bit strange. Other than that, it’s okay.

    Checked in but gave us wrong rooms, end up need wait till 6pm for our deluxe room to be ready. Night shift counter old man Oliver was unfriendly, clueless & seems like he did not know ‘customer service’ at all. He said countless times how hard it is to work there, complaining abt his work etc. Unbelieavable experience. 10/10 service.

    Hotel Royal is very accessible, being a short walk from Novena Station, and right next to a bus stop. The rooms are tidy, if a bit bare. Internet access is available only via wifi; there is no LAN point. The service staff are friendly, but not very proactive. Over-all, a pleasant stay at very reasonable cost.

    We queued for more than 30 min at the reception for checking in but were told that our reservation was not processed yet. Not sure what old technology they used to process the booking but we waited (standing because, for some reasons, the seats in the lobby were all occupied) in total for 1.5 hours before getting the key.

    The room was pretty tidy but starting to get worn out. Though I can’t believe they provide that kind of slippers. Do they wash them, I wonder?

    From 4/8-6/8 i stay at royal hotel. Its poor maintainance. Reception staffs so humble n good. Safety good. Aircond not working. Dont have hose.shower not in proper . Tv blur. Its not wrth the price. I wont prefer stay again to stayvacay . Wont recommend to my frens also. They should improve more..

    Very spacious hotel with working desk and tv lounge with 2 oval seats, come with standing shower and bath tub with complete toiletries and hairdryer, ironning board. Bed is comforable and hv big window. Less than 5mins walk to united square mall for meals, bread, and supermarket. Velocity mall is just opposite. The staff is helpful and nice. Will definitely stay here again!

    The room is huge for the price and the location is very convenient. The design feels a bit old and the windows are not crystal clear. The lighting is not bright enough. The dark room with a dark carpet makes the room feels gloomy.

    We were here for 8 nights. The location of the Hotel is excellent. It has its own Bus stop with name ‘Hotel Royal’ and everything (including all major attractions) is just 10-20 mins away from here. There are 2 metro MRT stations near hotel. Novena at 600 mtrs & Newton @ 900 mtrs walking distance.
    Swimming pool area is neat and clean and its a large pool.
    Didn’t take any breakfast so cannot comment on that. Wi-Fi was slow but satisfactory.
    Rooms are pretty large and beds are comfortable. Hotel staff is amicable & room cleaning is everyday. Very smooth check-in and check-out.

    Would love to stay again.

    If customer request king/queen size bed, should have reserve for customer king/queen size bedroom. Even though 2 single bed can combine, the bed has wheel thus it moves alot, making it difficult for couple to sleep together.

    As I had health matters to do at Mount E Novena, staying at Royal Hotel Novena was a good idea. It’s pretty close to the hospital and there’s a bus stop just in front of the hotel when I need to go to Orchard area.

    I stayed for 3 nights. My room was pretty decent. I wish the lighting was better. My twin beds were comfortable and clean. There’s a slight minor flaw I found in my bedsheets.

    I like the idea of water dispenser. Good way to support green environment!

    Another plus for this hotel: 7 min walking distance to United Mall. This mall was good, especially when you were looking for children’s needs: toys, books, clothes, etc.

    Breakfast menus were not many, still okay though according to the room price. I wish they provide more fresh fruits.

    Another long stay in this hotel…
    The room is quite big compared to most 2 person room hotels in singapore. If only they could have the window opened for air circulation, that would be a very nice additional point.

    The location is very good, since they have a bus stop right in front of the hotel and walking distance to novena square (Novena MRT).

    My suggestion is to add a wheelchair friendly entrance in the main lobby and also in the restaurant entrance, because right now we have to use the side entrance (don’t have shelter along the way) and use the service lift to get to the breakfast restaurant.

    We were lucky to get the room we booked and a good sized bed. But we did hear that it’s a first come first serve thing. It’s a possibility to not get the room you booked. Good price though for a hotel with a bathtub and swimming pool. Decent furnishings. A little dated and not much to do but good enough for a short getaway.

    Very ulu, facilities are lousy, gym very small and pool still not opened due to covid. Room filled with smell of smoke but after complaint, they place an ioniser to remove the smell quite completely. For staycation, I rather choose a better hotel. Only good thing is their rooms are meant for 3 pax and has bathtub.

    Hotel room is nice clean and comfortable. Aircond kept switched on when you are out ensuring when you return is nice and cooling.

    However they have a nasty habit of switching off an elevator during peak hours, ie in the morning breakfast rush hour.

    Complimentary parking is a plus.

    Worst hotel I have ever stayed in. Check in took long. Out of 3 lifts only 1 working and lift was super slow. Had a long queue for the lift by the time it came to level 1. Corridor smells of strong CIGARETTE SMOKE even though smoking isn’t allowed and no staff did anything about it. Full of youngsters breaching COVID-19 rules by bringing so many people in 1 room, and hotel still did nothing about it. Can hear people laughing loudly and blasting music. Not peaceful at all. Need to pay for internet services, take note. Room service takes too damn long to answer. I’m actually calling room service while writing review and this is how angry and disappointed I am staying here. Waiting over 30 mins for room service on the line and still no one answers. Cups are not washed, no mineral water provided. Bathtub have pubic hairs and not clean. Yes it’s cheap but it’s not even clean. I will NEVER ever come back to this hotel even if it’s free, and I recommend everyone to just pay a little more elsewhere to stay because it is not worth the money.

    Stayed from 4 to 5 November 2021. Was given the 13th floor. The whole corridor reeked of cigarette smoke though we were told it was a no-smoking hotel. Room was generally clean and spacious. Good TV programmes – Netflix, HBO, Disney Channel, Youtube, normal Singapore TV channels ( I think some of them require subscription and payment) No bottled water provided.
    Stayed in Room 13-21 (Window view of condominiums) Best to request for street view.
    Breakfast was mediocre. Receptionist was grumpy and there were only two waiters, one of them a manager. Only two choices – Western comprising spaghetti, very sweet orange juice, 2 hard boiled eggs, two bread toast and a choice of coffee/tea. The other was Local food – Prawn noodle. We didn’t try that, so no comments. But didn’t look appetizing from the unfinished bowls of other customers.
    Free parking but need to get complimentary pass from reception counter which was only manned by 2 ladies. When we checked in, there was only one of them managing the check-ins while the other was doing her billing and invoices work at another counter. There was quite a few people checking in.
    Check-in time is strictly 3.00 pm though I noticed some were allowed access at about 1.00 pm when I checked in. Nowhere to rest except the ‘Trishaw’ coffee house. So, took a drive around the area before returning at about 3.00 pm.

    Cheap for SG standard but very expensive for Malaysian. Quality wise okay, fancy clean entrance but with little to no bag handling service by the staff. Tbh staffs arent friendly at all (both morning and night shift).

    Stayed for 5days for work trip, had breakfast buffet (around 8am+) in 4 consecutive days. Some food remains the same and served everyday like breads, pastries, cereal, toast, coffee, milo, tea fruits and salad. Some entirely new foods on menu like noodles- fried/soup, fried rice, soy rice, popcorn chicken, sausages, nuggets, steam/hardboiled egg, porridge, pancakes
    waffles, stir fry vege, soup, etc. Great part of the buffet was its very muslim & hindu/buddha friendly (few vegetarian, no beef and no pork, no alcohol). Little to no vegan option unfortunately. Bad point for the overcrowdedness with small space. Will be less crowded after 9am. No worries, food will be refilled constantly throughout the buffet duration.

    Very grand entrance, infront of the royal hotel bus stop. Very classic chinese eccentric hotel, few outdated facilities. First day, the room was very dusty. But the cleanliness gotten better in next days. Not a fan of the toilet, no bidet, smelly old tissues. Cheap amenteries (soap var, liquid soap, bath foam, lotion, sanitisers, shampoo, sanitary pad, shower cap, etc. Worst bath tub, cant plug in or out at ease. Shower head was very badly design. Bedding was okay, 2 single beds. Clean and comfy. Big smart tv (samsung) though its not even connected to wifi ( wifi was super weak fyi). The tv works well with my phone for smart view and had few singaporean channels but thats it, no netflix or prime video. 1st floor was the chinese restaurant, 4th floor with launderette (6sgd for washing, 6sgd for drying. Fyi the machine only accepts 1sgd coins). Money exchange service near receptionist though the exchange rates was very low. Not recommended. Awful swimming pool, dirty and smelly. Fancy karoake room comes with private bar though need to pay. Vending machines selling snacks and drinks. Hallway to my room was a bit messy and not clean but not a big deal for me. Despite all the bad things, still had a great trip for myself.

    As soon as i checked in the room was super dirty, the floor felt super oily and the table too (made out of the same material). Need to call housekeeping to clean and still dirty. Toilet is also not clean. The wifi keeps on disconnecting and is very slow in this modern day of age. There is an unpleasant odor when you go into the room. For its price this really isn’t worth it better find another hotel to stay in.
    Writing this as pleasant as i can because im truly disappointed after seeing the hotel is also SG clean certified.

    Hotel Royal was a decent hotel and a not bad hotel. We came here around March 2018 and stayed for 5 days.

    The Location is nice since it is close to Newton station. The pool was nice as well since it was outside although we saw some staff that were smoking at the time.

    Breakfast was decent with many options and choices.

    The rooms were nice and we stayed on the top of the tower and we had a nice view the rooms were nice on average and cleaned although I expected better and a nicer room. Since it kind of felt dirty.

    All in all it was nice and customer service was okay and decent and since it close to the mall you could walk from the mall and it the hotel is in front of the school which was cool to see primary school students attending their clases.

    When we come back I hope to choose another nice hotel maybe close to the city centre. All in all not a bad hotel. It is best at average.

    Loved the location as well as the hotel services. We had stayed for 2 nights. The property is kept really well even though its an old hotel. The bus stop is right at the entrance of the hotel and just 2 stops away from Newton MRT. A shoutout for Harry who checked us in and was extremely polite and quirky in greeting us.
    Highly recommended!

    Allow early checkin before noon when room available. Hotel rooms a bit old but spacious. Tv channels limited. Breakfast is ok. Would be better if there is yougart and more variety of fruits. Room temp cannot adjust

    Terrible hospitality and service during our covid incident by October’22. The hotel employee that we assumed act as the manager (since she has her own room) had acted so rude and unsupportive with our good intention of letting them know that our senior family member contracted covid during our stay, ruining the whole good experience within earlier stays. Considering we were being honest and cooperative by letting them know right after checking to the hospital, they refused to help us extend the stay (even though we were willing to pay right away) manually and asked us to extend ourselves with online booking and to came back by the next day.
    When we returned at the exact time requested the next morning, she complained that the booking had not been submitted by the OAT yet and commanded us to return an hour later, instead of being compassion and understanding of our current situation (mind you we were foreign tourists having a senior member there); even though we brought the purchase proof. When challenged, instead she raised her voices, and they dared to call themselves 3-4 stars hotel?

    The only positive highlights I can gave was how lovely the cleaning service lady and the male receptionist that actually helped our extension process after the second return out of frustration with the previous hotel person.
    Would not recommend staying here if you are still concern with covid possibility though!

    It’s a nice & cozy hotel for staycation
    Receptionist Chinese girl is very helpful and welcoming, she let us check in early. (One Indian lady looks so annoying)
    Convenient place near mrt and bus stop
    Room housekeeping 7/10 very dusty and stain floor, carpet.
    Air-con 8/10 it’s cold enough but can’t control coz remote not working
    ⭕️ Drinking water should be provide in the room.
    Overall it’s ok

    Rooms were very big. I wish they could provide complementary water in the room. On our last day, the aircondition water was leaking in the roof. No big deal to us though.

    The hotel reeks tobacco. We noticed that they don’t change the sheet everyday. And, our towels were not properly cleaned. There are remnants of someone elses hair on the face towel.

    Staff are friendly and accommodating.

    The place is so so. Old hotel already. Need more paint Renovation.

    The worst check in experience i have ever experience. The staff gave me a room which is already occupied by other guest. When i went in the guest in the room scolded vulgarities at us.

    Upon changing another room for me, i found cigrette buds in the it and a strong smoking smell can be smell throughout the room. The stuff claim that the entire hotel is supposed to be non smoking room.

    Check in time is 3pm but because of all the delays i only get to check in at 4.30pm. The worst part is that the reception staff does not even apologise to me and she gave me the blur look. Highly recommend not to go to this hotel with such service.

    It’s an old hotel. And when I called to enquire, I got a super rude staff answering me.

    While having these negative points, when I reached the hotel, the other staff are quite friendly. The hotel also placed 2 of my rooms next to each other. While checking in took a bit longer, but checkout was fuss free, you can just deposit the door card into a box at the lobby counter.

    Parking is complimentary.

    Friendly staffs, but the room we were in was disappointing. Got TV but no signal. Got this cool sitting area at the corner of the room with a window but the view can only see walls and the rooftop. Also, the swimming pool was closed without any notice. Decent hotel but not quite a 4 star hotel as claimed.

    I booked by traveloka for 3 guest. Actually, we’re 2 adult and 2 children (10y and 5y). I got family room with 2 queen and 1 single bed. Room is big enough. The building and interior is old but It’s comfortable. Swimming pool can’t for children but they can do aqua play at the bath tub halte bus in front the hotel. Easier to go around by bus then MRT from hotel

    If you prefer comfort when you travel, then this isnt the hotel for you. We booked the family room, which was small and cramped with a tiny bathroom. The bathtub converted into a shower collects water at your feet since drainage isnt quick. We paid for an “american” style breakfast but we got a poor selection of foods mainly catering for chinese guests and not many western options eg. No yogurt or muesli etc. Reception isnt good with helping you figure out the transport system that is conveniently located directly outside the hotel. The hotel at night is noisy, the walls are very thin. This felt more like a motel than a hotel to me

    Food was overall delish and the staff are all very friendly and efficient despite it being a Sunday, and a long weekend on top of it. There would be crowds and tour groups that have their meals there so do expect some more noise (special note for those who prefer quiet ambience), but I personally found it not disruptive.

    Food wise, I personally recommed the prawn rolls, salted egg pork ribs, hor fun, prawns, kung ba pau and wintermelon soup. They were all flavourful without being too salty. The others that we ordered were pretty decent too, like the spinach soup, peking duck, buttermilk chicken (just to name a few). Dessert wise, they ran out of all other options by the time we were done eating (920ish), but staff recommended the red bean paste. We tried their herbal jelly and wow it was different from the usual ones that were just too bitter and a little hardened. Theirs was relatively soft and reminded me more of grass jelly.

    Overall recommended!

    At first they couldn’t find out reservation, but the staff member worked with us on a room until they could find it. However, then we found cockroaches in our room and were told to spray to kill them ourselves. The room itself was very dirty, and I feel we were put there last second.

    If it wasn’t for the amazing staff at the counter, I would have rated this much lower. If you get yourself a clean room, you’ll be fine. Just keep an eye out for cockroaches.

    The room is spacious, but unfortunately the service was very poor. First, we booked the room for 3 people, instead they gave us a room for 2. They promised to move us into another room, but it was never fulfilled. Finally, we asked the receptionist to give us a wake-up call, but she forgot to do it and never apologized for that fatal mistake.

    Hotel staff was really rude, he said that he closed one eye because we weren’t 21 and usually when we book hotels, we didn’t encounter this problem at all. He even said that he closed one eye to let us continue checking in but would downgraded our room. Initially we booked a deluxe room with breakfast, but he told us that the room wasn’t available. I think right here the case is that they think that we are young and can actually deceive us . I honestly wouldn’t recommend this hotel, the service was horrible. Room wasn’t fascinating at all, would pay a few hundred bucks more for better service and room. Hope that the rest of you guys who would like to book this hotel, be careful, and make sure you’re not below “21” LOL if not your money would b gone because your room is not the deluxe room and he said that it’s not refundable. Book at your own risk!

    There’s lots of areas to be improved on in this hotel….

    was actually looking forward to my staycation with the fam but it turns out to be kinda disappointing…

    Attitude of the staff that checked us in could have been much better……
    Theres free WiFi but the wifi really not strong and had to use my own data instead

    The breakfast place service was super slow….. Could have used the remaining time to enjoy a little more in the room but due to the super slow service, our time was waisted there waiting for our food and drinks…..

    We spent 1 night in the hotel on 12 June 2021. The hotel is average. The customer service was poor, the cups in the room were very dirty and there were coffee stains inside. I called 3 times to ask for a new clean cups but no one paid any attention. The air-conditioning in the room was not cold at all, and i was still sweating when i slept at night. The hair dryer in the toilet is still stained with dirty stains. It seems very disgusting, i will not stay at this hotel again. I very angry.

    I really wouldn’t suggest my friends/family member coming to this hotel. The hotel doesnt have hose in the bathroom and its hard to do bussiness and the curtains smells. I hope the hotel can improve more.

    The room is big yes but the toilet is not clean splater of soap and toothpaste everywhere on the sink
    Even though i book the room online i still need to Q on long line together with the people who ddnt book ahead of time.
    Stuff is not very friendly . I request a queen bed yet they gave me 2 small beds. No water to drink also

    Very bad experience, from booking to stay. totally ruined my anniversary celebration:

    1. I was charged MORE than I should
    – because I booked the mystery room. It is actually the same as the deluxe room, but the price was more. I was confused and unhappy, so I messaged the hotel. But the hotel blamed it on the listing? I don’t know is it Agoda or the hotel’s fault, but just avoid!!!!!

    2. Ignored my request
    I requested for bathtub & something for my anniversary, they replied that they would try. In the end, my request was totally ignored. It’s totally absurd that they market themselves as a 4 star hotel, but yet they are unable to even do a simple personalisation for their guests.

    3. Old
    The hotel design and layout is looks super old and obviously built super long ago. Patrons are mainly tourists so DO NOT BOOK if you’re youngsters LOL you won’t like it bro.

    4. Cleanliness
    The toilet bowl wasn’t even flushed & the swimming pool was so dirty! Major turn off!

    We booked a room for 2 days with a child . the room was meant for 2 adults and one child while booking on Agoda. But on arriving at reception , they asked for extra money for child stating child was not mentioned. They charged $120 SGD per night for extra child because they knew we cant do anything as we had already paid for room and it was non refundable. The receptionist took advantage of it . A disappointing experience s we had travelled so far and had no option. While booking online we selected the room which accommodate 3 person but the lady at reception was so rude and showing attitude , stated Child is not mentioned in room booking. She was neither ready to cancel , nor adjust even didn’t talked politely despite Agoda customer agent also tried to explain to her that While room searching online we had select ted 2 adults but still we booked a room meant for 2 adults and one child. anyhow we were forced to pay extra for 2 nights and that too very expensive. And also there was nothing to drink in room, no water bottle at all.

    The hotel has signs of aging.

    The smells of the room is misty, bathroom door from inside are rotting away and broken in pieces.
    Molds shown on various corner and tile grouts in the bathroom.

    Water pressure is good, but be prepared the spray will go all over the bathroom as the shower head is very short.

    No water bottle, bring your own bottle to have it refilled.

    The coffee shop attendance or slash coffe shop manager is very sarcastic when asked to borrow utensils. The malay slightly older skinny guy.
    “So you want to borrow eating stuffs?”
    “So you bought from outside correct”

    I gave him a slap of words with “should i not to?”

    He give quirky bad sentiment Smile. “Of course you ken( read: can in singlish)nnnnnn….)

    He gave sets of plastic plates, plastic spoon and fork, paper cup.
    So much for being environmentally friendly with the elimination of the plastic bottle.

    When asked for ice to be consumed, they handed you ice pack in a clear plastic bag for you to hold while its dripping along your way back to your room

    If it wasn’t for the Exceptional service from an Executive of the hotel named RAYMAX LIM, i would have given this hotel 1 star accross the board.

    For the exception of the bus stop right in front of the hotel that able to take you directly to orchard road, dhoby ghaut and downtown.

    Slow and backward administrative process that is still paper-based. Unable to check in when guest that made the booking was not present. Was told that a hold had to be made on credit card because the guest who booked was not present at check-in even though room had already been fully paid for via third-party portal. Even though it was supposed to be a hold and the staff claimed as such, it turned out to be a charge and time and effort had to be wasted to get the hotel to reverse it.

    Hotel location is reasonably good with amenities within walking distance, but that is about it. Centralized air-conditioning was not effective in cooling room even when adjusted to lowest temperature. Room cleanliness was subpar with ants on table and dirty carpeting. Tiled flooring in room and bathroom was greasy from previous occupants walking barefooted. Part of the flushing mechanism of toilet bowl was stuck. Other furnishings are about what can be expected of a low-end budget hotel – the hotel has seen better days, and the setup showed its age.

    For the price, there are better hotels with better amenities. Not recommended unless one must stay in the area.

    Bad AC in room being transfered to 3 rooms but AC is still hot. The reception Indian lady was rude. We order about 1 month ahead and request high floor and she gave us 4th floor and said fully book. Then a Chinnese lady change it to 12th floor. After an hour we change to another room because the room was so hot. The new room also hot. But since we are too tired we accept the room. Next day we change to 13th floor. Still hot inside room. But we are so tired to pack and move again. Never again to this hotel

    The houskeeping is nice, the room is clean and the room had many things, basic bath supplies, iron, ironing board, scale, laundry basket, almost everything you need when travelling. the room is quite spacious compared to other hotel. Down side is, the hotel is a little bit old, and it is far from MRT station. The bus station is in front of the hotel though. Its quite easy to catch a taxi, and the hotel staff will also help you. Nice!

    itd been my third time coming to the hotel, and the third time will be the last, i dont know what happen to this hotel, i pay almost the same amount each time (110SGD+) but the room gets worst and worst,

    first time was okay, even i dont get the king or queen bed as how i booked but yaa the television can connect to the netflix, so i enjoy watching it.

    the second time even no matter how early i book or i come, there was never KING OR QUEEN BED , then why bother put it as an option?? But i feel okay since the receptionist even gave us extra 2 hour checkout time. And the television can connect to netflix.

    Then the third are the worst, the room doesnt look as KING deluxe at all, the bedsheet are even TORN OUT! I assume they just anyhow received booking not even care the quality anymore and some more with the non friendly receptionist and again not getting the KING bed as i suppose to get, PLUSSSS THE TELEVISION are old cant even connect to network, not also provide good channel just stupid free channel that not even clear!! And i call to justify this stupidity, the receptionist even ask me to bring laptop and teach me to use HDMI jfisjdis ????!!!!!!!!!

    You should know how to keep your customer continuously enjoying your service for god sake!

    They are understaffed. Check in time was supposed yo be at 3pm but by the time we got checknin and received the key was close to 4pm. The management should have been more proactive since they know they are heavily booked.

    It’s a old property, seems like it has been revamped not too long ago. Room are huge and clean . Price depending on season could be quite reasonable. Ultimately the turn off is it’s location. It’s near to orchard road but not that near. A few bus stop away. It’s walkable to novena square and united square. It’s kind of stand alone property near yet a distance away from all amenities.

    I stayed at this hotel with my family for two weeks when we were looking for a new apartment after finally able to return to Singapore in the end of November.

    Here are the details:
    – 2 stars only, for check-in long queue (1+ hour)
    – 3 stars only, for hotel and interior conditions e.g. Cleanliness, Soundproofing (thin floor, hence noise from floor above is the worst).
    – 4 stars for delicious foods and its very reasonable price at the Chinese Food Restaurant on 2nd floor and for drinking water (hot and cold) which is provided on every floor near the elevator.
    – 4.5 stars for its location, near to Novena and Newton MRT stations, also there’s a bus station right in front of the hotel.
    – 4.5 stars for the Manager on Duty (Mr. Raymax) in handling our complaints in the first 3 days and helping the checkout process.

    Overall, one of the best value hotel with rooms for improvement. But we get what we pay for.

    Although the official check in time was at 3pm, my girlfriend and I went early with the intention to leave our luggage with them and then head out. To our surprise, we got a room at 1pm. The room was really spacious and the beds were comfortable too. Very worth it considering the price.

    The cheapest hotel we could find as RM conversation rate too sing dollars are peanuts. Free parking is good. Make sure you get your parking coupons before exiting each time.

    Booked two rooms for family, requested connecting room for 4d3n staycation.

    1) Given room 1111 and 1112 with Smart TV, horrible foul smell and aircon was not cooling at all.
    2) Changed to 523 and 524, at least 524 aircon working fine, given two fan for 523.
    3) Room card only work after one day, need to change card daily.
    4) Received call daily around 2pm asking to checkout.
    5) Power failure on day two 3pm, No power for almost an hour.
    6) Staff were not smiling at all, as if they were Serving notice period.

    Not recommend for staycation, think is alright for tourist if you Are not staying in the hotel most of the time. Wifi was average too. Can enjoy better hotel with same rate.

    I stayed here for 4 days 3 nights in Aug 2022.

    Overall it was a great experience and cost savings. 11k THB in total for 3 person and breakfast was included (~325 $USD).

    Breakfast was ok.

    Room was cleaned everyday and all amenties (water, shampoo etc.) were added everyday. Thus, I’m surprised that some comment say the opposite way (not sure if they have changed standard?)

    Currently I cannot find a room cheaper than what I got (so sad).

    Facilities are old, only bad thing is the curtain in a bathroom is smell very bad when it soaked with water.

    This is the most disgusting hotel I have ever stayed at. The bathroom is dilapidated and falling apart and there is mold in nearly every crevice and tile. The bedsheets and spreads are covered with tons of human hair. The staff doesn’t care at all and I asked them to clean it and I come back to the room looking identical. The toilet was grimy and the shower rod that held the towels had fallen off on side. The drain for the tub/shower was clogged so your feet were half an inch deep in the water flowing up from the drain. My current working theory is that these are really bad rooms they sell to low cost Asian tour groups who they know won’t complain about the quality of the hotel. I stayed as part of a Vietnamese tour group but I was just blown away by the apathy from the staff and the state of the rooms. I was too tired to to repack my stuff and go to a different hotel for the night so I just spent 10 minutes picking away all the individual human hairs in my bedspread. Please don’t do yourself a disservice and stay well clear away from this rotten place.

    I was very skeptical on booking this hotel after reading all the past reviews. Still went ahead as I needed an affordable place to stay while my home was being renovated for 13 nights. This place is value for money. Not your dream staycation hotel though. So if you are looking for a posh 5 star place look else where. My family room was clean. Bedding was a bit worn out but clean. Pillows were very comfortable. Toilets were clean and I have no complaints. Ample toiletries. My fridge wasn’t working but I not planning to use so I didn’t care. Water dispensers both hot and cold are on every floor. Great initiative to do away with bottled water. Best part was that there is a self service launderette in the hotel itself which u can pay and use. Not very expensive. Overall I was very happy with my stay. If you are not very picky pls go ahead and make your booking.

    When I first entered the room, there was a very bad smell and I saw mold everywhere. When I reported it at the reception they changed my room but it had the same problems (dust, mold, dirty carpet, unpleasant smell) and it felt like a health threatening environment.     PLEASE READ TILL THE END. ALL ROUND EXPERIENCE THAT COULD HELP YOU AND ONE YOU CAN AVOID.

    The worst staycay ever! The room was great, so I gotta give them atleast 4 stars for it. Bed was not the most comfortable but nonetheless I slept great. They don’t provide drinking water, so bring your tumbler as u can get ur water refilled at the water dispenser at the lift. The porcelain throne is clean and big tub(that’s a plus) room is huge, request for a double bed but had to settle for twin beds and still could fit one more bed. TV channel was the worst so bring your own entertainment. Didn’t explore the pool area so cnt comment on that. Lift is super slow so be patient about it only 2 working lifts.
    OK here’s where it gets rough!
    So I came at 12noon and the Q wasn’t long but slow moving,but sadly I left something elsewhere and got to get it, so I return back at 1.45 pm and the Q was around 15-20 people. In a normal hotel this kinda of Q won’t even happen, but this hotel is rather amazing. 1 person takes about 10-15mins to get checked in, there were only 1 counter open and another one in the room next door. The younger one was doing check-in and checkout any other stuffs as well. She wasn’t professional and made checking in experience feels like we are checking in 2 stars Hotel. She tried her best tho but she needs to be trained for working in 4 star hotel, but then again the staff I saw were all old age so obviously they don’t pay much attention to customer service here. I didn’t get to go anywhere after check in because my leg hurting from standing so long! Came at 145pm was given a room at 3.10pm. The longest check-in EVER! so don’t waste time. Even if its good and cheap it’s not worth ruining Yr mood. There are other boutique hotels same price offering better services. Don’t bother writing in to the manager cause they don’t care. The Q went on till 7pm plus, and they said it just happen today, but it’s a lie it happens always as you can read other comments. Definitely won’t return ever, just not worth it. A grand Hotel brand that dates far back is ruin by people who don’t know how to run a modern hotel and stuck in their old ways.

    Had a wonderful stay at Royal Hotel. We were served by Angela Lim at the front desk. She is very friendly and polite. Rooms are spacious, clean and at good rates. Maybe would be better if the water dispensers are working.

    Booked this hotel as accomodation for VTL,close to family. It started off well and got better as the staff got friendlier – At first I was just a masked face in the crowd, after 3 weeks I felt a genuine welcome! A big thank you to Raymax and the lovely ladies on the desk who helped me out several times, Lynn who kept my (massive) room spotless and the 3 concierges who were always friendly.
    (A warning for VTL travellers – the hotel need to see your visa on arrival, and from the UK you don’t need a visa – BUT immigration will email you one, once you are through passport control; spotting that unexpected email stopped the pantomime-esque drama I was having!)

    Booked a family room stay for my boyfriend and myself for one night 25/7/20-26/7/20. To start off with, before booking the hotel I called in to check if the hotel is housing any stay home notice guest and they said no, they’re only housing guest for staycations. Unfortunately when I went to the hotel I saw many immigrant workers and rooms prepared for stay home notice guests. Staffs at the front desk were not competent with fluent English and they were pretty slow.I checked in the hotel @ 7:30pm yet I had to wait 20mins for the room to be ready. It was ridiculous as my room was suppose to be ready at 2pm which is the standard check in time. The wait for the lift up took longer as only 2 of 3 lifts were working and only 4 people are allowed in each trip. (Measures for covid so it’s fine) nevertheless the lift buttons were malfunctioned and slow. Room had stale smell like someone smoked in the room previously. I requested for simple anniversary decorations such as rose petals on the bed but wasn’t provided. Upon booking for the stay I paid for 2 pax buffet breakfast, On arrival I was told that breakfast starts at 6:30am. Unfortunately when we went to the restaurant we were told that breakfast starts at 7am instead, thereafter at 7:30am we went down and was given a bento box each with Hokkien mee, baked beans and luncheon meat? If I knew or was informed that breakfast will be such I wouldn’t have opt to have breakfast. The night before I saw the restaurant having guest dining in so I do not find why they can’t have guest to dine in for breakfast. Not worthy to pay that much for just a bento box. Lastly, I was told that there is complimentary parking but wasn’t given any coupon or directions to utilise it hence we had to pay $8.40 for the parking while leaving. Overall I wouldn’t recommend this hotel unless there are major changes made.

    We haven’t even check in already had so many issues , hotel royal said the agent we book from and paid already didn’t show in their system basically we never pay but we had prove we did then they ask us deposit $250 keep in mind we paid $200 already for the hotel after that we went up and our room were connecters so we tried using their telephone in the room which doesn’t even work so we went back down to ask for a change of room which the receptionist replied can but actually this room for three people only , but we paid $200 for 5 people so idk what was the issue and then the receptionist told us not to drink and loud music because later troublesome for him and i even assured him nothing of that sort will happen the whole experience here was terrible our package came with welcome drinks which we didn’t have either i never had this kind of experience like today . customer service is super bad i’d rather spend my money elsewhere next time period . 0 stars

    A tad bit disappointed that the booking platform fail to mention that facilities such as the swimming pool and gym were closed. The television had some static lines that couldn’t not disappear. Overall could have been a better experience.

    I had a wonderful stay at Hotel Royal. The check-in process is smooth all thanks to a good leadership from the manager, Angela. I also noticed a staff Shawn who interact with us to adhere to safe distance measure but did it tactfully. Both displayed professionalism and politeness, two important traits in the service industry. Good job, Angela & Shawn.

    Not bad for an old hotel, for the price, it provides a bigger room, eventhough it’s outdated.
    I like that it has a self serviced laundromat, location is convenient to Orchard. Bus stop is literally just outside the hotel entrance
    Walking distance to United Square too.

    Pros: Friendly staff and great location. Cons: Old and dirty rooms…the hotel webpage says all rooms newly renovated. Perhaps most rooms but definitely not ours. Stains on the walls, floors, pillows, torn bed sheets, and a film of dirt on every surface. Mold in bathroom and tiles cracked and falling off. If you’re looking to stay in Novena, find another hotel.

    check in process was slow, staff that served rudely claimed I reserved too late and reservation has closed, when I’ve never had an issue booking various places via traveloka before. their colleague had to intervene and check the system to print out the voucher.

    still manual in their processes, took 20min just to check in.

    room is old, as expected, but there is no bathtub as advertised. toilet and shower was decent, but looks dirty at a few corners. carpet looks like it hasn’t been replaced in years and tv is walled in so you can’t plug any of your hdmi cable. WORST of all, underside of the duvet there was a red stain that I can’t tell if it’s blood or chili sauce. thankfully was staying alone so i can just sleep on the other side, but not everyone is like me.

    there isn’t even water provided in the room!

    if you want a spacious frills free (for the room) hotel, this is royal enough. but if you expect a decent standard, I dare say even hotel 81 or fragrance is better.
