A popular restaurant in the neighbour amongst the lunch time office crowd and the evening family diners.

Plus points would be the tasty and flavorful Chinese food. The ingredient are fresh and gives off that granny homecooked vibes.

What’s popular would be their milky fried fish noodles. Take away is also very common as it’s surround by private estates so expect some decently waiting time during their peak. The ventilation is pretty bad there but the great trade off will be the food, attentive service, and affordable price range.

Good food all round except for the teochew prawn roll, there’s hardly any prawn in the roll mainly flour. We ordered steam black bean fish, coffee ribs, sweet sour pork, three egg veg, slice fish horfun, prawn paste chicken etc.. 7 dishes all came good size and tasty, also reasonably priced. Check out my other reviews I seldom give five

    Takeaway lunch:
1 medium cereal prawns (5 ⭐️: big fresh prawns and fragrant cereal, not oily at all)
1 large french beans with dried shrimp (2 ⭐️: overcooked and little dried shrimp)
1 medium hay tso (1 ⭐️: bland and pork smell was strong maybe due to insufficient marinade)

My verdict: Three ⭐️ because staff is efficient and friendly, sambal is good and they are not stingy when you asked for another pack, price is reasonable.

One of many branches across the island. The staple is the sliced fish (san lao) hor fun, which is fried well with enough wok hei. The other zi char style dishes are very good too but the best dish of the meal was the curry fish head. Generous portion and delicious curry to eat with white rice.

    4.2 stars.

My friends and I have been returning to this resaturant on occasions over the years, as we find that the food quality and service have been very consistent. You can’t go wrong with the prawn paste chicken, hotplate oyster with egg and the 3-egg spinach.

Not only so, we found the ambience conducive for hearty conversations (if not too crowded) and its slightly secluded location in Simpang Bedok makes it feel like a convenient pseudo-get-away session from a busy day of work.

If you’re doing dinner, please make prior reservations. Parking spaces are available just outside the restaurant and aplenty at the basement of East Village.

    Enjoy!

Best zichar in the East. Best har cheong gai in Singapore. Most staffs are pleasant, there are exceptions though. I do takeaways from here at least once a month, regular customer. One aunty can be quite rude when ask takeaway customers to check-in to the premise – she could have said that pleasantly. There is no need to check in as we are not dining in and she could offered to take my credit card and swipe at the cashier. She is not in uniform. The other staffs are not like her. She is not the lady boss as i can recognise the lady boss.

Chance upon this gem accidentally. Love the sambal pomfret, crispy and soft. Fried rice have the “fried” taste. And everyone, including the kids, love the caramelized brinjau. Most importantly not overly expensive, yet! Would definitely come again to check out the other dishes.

Good food but everything else is a horrible experience. Terribly understaffed at times where crowds are expected, and so tables do not get cleared promptly. This causes delay in filling the tables as the staff are too busy serving the other tables.

After placing our orders, the rice comes first, followed by a 20minute wait before the first dish arrives. They should change their name to HK Cold Rice Restaurant.

Food was delicious, so kudos to the kitchen staff. The waiting staff are visibly stressed, and many wrong orders were delivered to our table. Other tables also witnessed such mistakes. The food arrived one-by-one in very long intervals, so don’t expect to eat your food together at all.

The soup we ordered arrived last, 40minutes after placing our order. By that time all the food had been finished. So the soup was practically a hot dessert.

    Good food.
    Understandably below-average waiting service.
    Bad overall experience.

Great place for decent “home cook” Chinese crusine. The decor is basic, clean and air-conditioned. This place is popular with the local regulars. We liked the pork spareribs, sambal kangkong, fish maw soup, yam ring, venison hot plate, oat prawns, etc. You can’t really go wrong with the typical Chinese dishes here.

Had reunion dinner at this branch, food was decent but wouldn’t say spectacular. Service was rather slow as they were short of staffs, which i think they should’ve anticipated the crowd given it’s CNY season and they’re selling reunion dinner packages. Ordered drinks and took 20mins to arrive…

Visited this outlet with my family for second visit. Ordered a 5 person set meal although there are six of us. The portions are well sufficient for all of all and food was good. Especially the fish. All of us like it as the fresh was tendered and smooth, most of all it is tasty. Cereal Prawn was nicely fried and not oily. Overall the good was more than worth the price we paid for and highly recommended for family or gathering of friends. No crowd on a weekday evening before 6pm. Table size for our group of 5 was spacious. The restaurant is basic with a focus on the food rather than deco. There is a choice or indoor seating with air-conditioning or alfresco. It is a zichar restaurant offering wok fried local Singaporean dishes. Taste wise, the cooking does not send you over the moon. The dishes are alright and come in good portions. My rating of the best to the least liked.
    – Yang chow fried rice
    – Bitter gourd & seafood soup
    – Salted egg yoke mud crab (SGD $65 each)
    – Sliced beef on a hotplate
    – Stir fried sliced fish with onions and ginger.

This fried fish beehoon ($7) is like an upgraded version of those from food courts. The fish meat is substantial and not coated with just flour. So it’s all entirely the real stuff. There’s even a thick slab of the fish skin on each slice. The soup is cooked with milk and huadiao wine so it’s flavourful. Lotsa vegetable as well.

We got greedy and added a small plate of sambal belacan kang kong ($9). The spiciness of the dish was just nice but we couldn’t finish it. Actually just a bowl of fried fish beehoon each was more than sufficient for a hearty lunch.

Seemed like a one of the popular restaurants in the neighborhood. The food was good and a good portion too.

It was rather crowded during dinner. However the serving personnels were still quite friendly and prompt with their service.

I supposed they are trying to minimize wastage, so it might seemed as if the condiments provided are too little. However they are happy to provide more anytime. Seemed good to me.

I am a regular customer with HK Street, almost went there on an alternate basis. I am pleased with their food n services. Until yesterday I was a little disappointed. I had ordered a sliced food mee hoon soup, no wine and no milk to go. When the food arrived, the soup looked abit milky and I asked the waitress to check. She brought it to the kitchen, I saw they opened up and the owner asked the chef if there’s milk in it. The chef didn’t see nor check and shouted no milk. They didn’t want to change it based on my words. So, I trusted them as being in this line, both the owner and the waitress should be able to see if there was milk in it. They replied to me there wasn’t. And I trusted them. After my god father has consumed the food, he started to burp whole night and told me there was milk in it.
Immediately I called them, didn’t get the chance to speak with the owner, only the waitress.
It was a let down esp if u were to patronise the place so frequently and packing the same food despite there wasn’t crowded.

There is a carpark right in front of the restaurant and it is very convenient for drivers.

One of the best affordable Chinese & Cantonese restaurant to dine.

Hong Kong Street Family Restaurant offers some of the best Chinese & Cantonese cuisines in Singapore, serving a tantalising collection of dishes that are suitable for casual dining and group gatherings.

MUST TRY: Items to look forward to include Prawn Paste Chicken, Sliced Fish Bee Hoon Soup, Claypot Tofu, Stir-Fried Pork Ribs and many more.

Do try thier crab bee hoon and black pepper crab. But not all the time they give good crabs. Some meat tend to be harder then other times. Not sure why not standardize.

Had dinner with family of 11 pax on a Saturday. Overall the food was decent. Ordered a total of 8 dishes, including chilli crab and salted egg crab ($66 each), plus dessert. Total bill of $304 which is reasonable. But the service was really slow and the workers were clearly maxed out. Despite coming in at 6pm with reservation and placing our orders almost immediately, our food was served only around 6.40pm. A simple, request for an extra bowl/chop sticks required a few reminders. We had to wait almost 30mins at the end for our dessert, taking the whole dinner just over 2 hours to complete. And the air conditioning really needs overhaul. It wasn’t just us but other diners around were also complaining that the restaurant was warm and stuffy. And you will walk away smelling of grease. Will likely avoid dining here on weekends due to the long wait.

Food is good but service is very very poor.

Called ahead at 5.30pm to order and was informed to come by at 6.30pm to pickup by the staff. This was a timing given by the restaurant, and we double confirmed with them that they would be ready by then. They said yes.

6.30pm came and went and it’s 7.40pm now and still nothing. Asking the staff, they kept saying halfway done, 10 more minutes. Many 10 minutes have since passed.

Zero service recovery even though my brother has been standing here for the past 1h 10min.

Sure food here is good and affordable, but this service standard is simply unacceptable.

*edit: Finally got our order at 7.48pm.

Nice place for zhi char style restaurant. Staff was pretty friendly, fully packed every weekend as its the only chinese restaurant in the area and its price its pretty affordable.

    1) Seafood Ee mee (4/5)
The seafood ee mee was quite tasty, just that the seafood was pretty normal

    2) Asam fish head (4/5)
The fish head was quite fresh, the sauce wise was not bad either, would have given a higher score if the sauce was abit more stronger.

    3) Sambal kangkong (2.5/5)
Burnt sambal, thought it was one time the chef burnt the sambal, but order the second time also same

    4) Bittergroud seafood soup (4.25/5)
Love this soup, finish the whole bowl even thou I dont even like to eat bittergroud. It was my wife who order this soup and change my opinion about bittergroud forever.

    5) Coffee spare ribs (3.5/5)
Haha could be due to the fact, the rest stand out, this dish was not bad, it wad tender, could be better if the chef reduced the sauce more and make it abit more char.

    6) Yam ring (4.25/5)
Not many restaurant make this dish anymore especially the modern restaurant. The yam ring was pretty crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, if the yam ring could have yam cube mix with yam paste to give it more bite and taste, it would be perfect.

    7) Indonesian chicken (3.5/5)
Haha didnt expect to see this dish in a chinese restaurant. It was a good try, should the chicken be grilled and char like the original. Plus the sauce it would be nice. 😀

    8) Hei zou (2.5/5)
It look gd and crispy however the meat filling is like with alot of flour. My sis even commended whether its spoilt.

    9) Crab meat fish maw soup (4/5)
The filling was quite alot unlike alot of zhi char stall just that it was abit salty.

    10) Italian chicken (3.75/5)
A new dish on the menu, it was quite good the overall, just that we are abit full due to we order everything big.

Typical Zhi Char but in aircon comfort. Price is very reasonable and food taste above average. Can be very crowded during weekends. Reservation during weekend definitely recommended.

One small comment the dishes are coming in at a fast pace, giving you little time to clear before the next dish is served.

This is an excellent value for money restaurant with tasty food at reasonable prices. The staff are friendly and service is prompt. However its taste is on the “heavy side” meaning it can be perceived as “salty or too savoury” for some health conscious diners. Otherwise it is considered delicious by many.

The food here is good and affordable. To get a seat on weekends, you would have to call in Advance to get a Table or wait 30mins. The beef hor fun is good. However, 1 issue with the place is that the last 3 times I went, there was leaky air conditioning. They don’t put seats there but sharing your Table with a puddle of water is a little off putting.

Serves up familiar tasting cantonese/Chinese dishes. We usually order the sliced fish bee hoon soup, fried rice and Sam lo Hor Fun. Taste is usually on point and serving is reasonably generous. Good place to visit if you’re planning to host lunch/dinner. Won’t go wrong with the options available.

Love it that they accept phone orders and you can call in advance to place your order. Parking is available but the open carpark is packed during dinner/lunch hours.
