For a place called Hai Sushi, I felt the selection of sushi wasn’t actually that much. I ended up getting teriyaki chicken on rice though which I really enjoyed! It was crunchy and flavorful, thus making for a great lunch. I did not like the soups it came with at all though (I got it in a special lunch package). I give it 3 stars because in general, the place was simple.

An invite to this place proved to be equally satisfying in ambience, service and the fresh set dinner that I enjoyed with my friends. I was a first-timer to this new gem in Plaza Singapura. Price wise depends on your choice…..reasonable ! I loved the sashimi it was sea fresh!

Food was served cold. Sushi obviously not their strong point. Rice crumbled easily.
    Underwhelming experience.
They displayed an outdated menu which entice people to come in but new menu is a fair bit pricier and not as good value.

There are obviously some hype about this Japanese restaurant. Food were decent, but is definitely not qualify as A list even B list, at the most same level as Sakae Sushi…..look at the Uni, it is no where near fresh, the robatayakis taste blend and you can see how dry the chicken was. One may argue robatayaki supposed to be on lightly salted to emphasis the taste and freshness of the ingredients, which is true. But when the quality of the food is not up to standard it just taste awful. I won’t recommend this at all until they start to bring in higher quality ingredients.

Liked the quality of the food and that you can chat with your friend with needing to shout.

Lacked in obe star due to cleanliness of the place cause there was a fly hovering our table towards the end of our meal.

Liked the salmon California roll as felt that they were generous with the ingredients.

Paring mushrooms with lemon juice was a little weird but appetizing in a refreshing way.

Food and service standard differs on both visit.

First visit was on a Saturday afternoon, low crowd. Service staff was polite (excellent customer service), considerate (offers us a chair for our baggage), and food was excellent. Food presentation supreme.

Ordered fried oyster set and salmon rice set (as shown in picture and taken with iPhone 7+), comes with steamed egg and additional top up for the salmon sashimi.

Fried oyster was delicious, salmon sashimi was fresh, however some parts of the cooked salmon was slightly overcooked.. plus points is that it had 4 slices of salmon.

Second visit was on 20th Nov, 8pm. Service and food was horrible. (Photos taken on a s9, food mode)

    1. Held the spoon by its head (you’re suppose to hold by the handle I believe)
    2. Ordered salmon (again), and beef. Both was too overcooked – too tough.
    3. Unamaki was average, can find better ones elsewhere that is cheaper
    4. Sashimi (extra $5.80), might as well go to a $1.50 sushi place
    5. Steamed egg tasted too bland. And wasn’t there suppose to have a piece of meat inside? Where did it go to? It was better on the first visit…
    6. Green tea tasted super fishy towards the end of it. Feedback to the cashier about it and she told us that it was suppose to have a strong seaweed taste. We tasted salmon that was left out to rot within the green tea, it was horrible. Googled and it said that “it shouldn’t taste like very strong seaweed, but rather a vegetable flavor with a hint of seaweed”. Instead, it tasted like raw fish mixed with green tea.. it’s like we dipped and stirred all our sashimi into the green tea.

Enoki bacon mushroom (crispy exterior with tenderness in the meat), the jellyfish (heavenly), and Orion beer (in a bottle so it should never go wrong..) was the best.

FYI: you will get SICK of the music after awhile (supposing to be a relaxing tune). It repeats, and it is so much more worse than listening to baby shark on repeat!

Their chirashi don is awesome. It’s the best chirashi don I’ve had in Singapore. No matter how many other ‘famous’ ones I try, I always come back here.

Portion is generous, great variety of sashimi (& uni & sweet prawn!), and the sashimi and uni are really fresh! Price is very reasonable, and it includes chawanmushi as well. Service is good too.

It was about lunch time and not really hungry, I chose to have hand roll for lunch. This place was clean and staff were friendly. I had the Californian roll, prawn roll and salmon roll. Each were made fresh and the prawn was roll was fantastic. Deep fried and crispy batter was still hot when I ate it . The salmon was a generous thick portion and all the way to the end, I could still taste it. This is my first time here and highly recommend if you want a quiet place to hang out and slowly enjoy yr food.

The restaurant is situated in an open area, very relaxed ambience which I liked.

The chirashi don was good. Very colorful, very generous. Fish was fresh and tasted clean.

Also got the sake which came at a discounted price with the set. This was really worth it! The sake was sweet and served hot in a dainty little vase. Getting a whiff of the sake while drinking is wow. Really warms you up and is a perfect match with the chirashi.

A gem on B2 of Singapura, real & fresh fish, made in front of you.

I knew Kai 7yrs ago when I was staying around Little India. This was the time when the place hadnt been renovated, and I was impressed with the freshness of the sushi/sashimi. I visites mostly every week for a while that the old chef remembered me, and he seemed to give me the best part of the sashimi (or I imagined).
I visited again today, and still impressed. As the chef started making my avocado salad by cracking up the avocado (fresh!), and as I just finished the belly salmon sushi, I thought it’s a crime not leaving a rating of this place.

One of the most underrated Japanese restaurants in town serving up succulent teriyaki, yakitori and robotayaki that is barbecued to perfection. They have a wide selection of Japanese sake and beer to be paired with the dishes for optimal dining satisfaction as well.

As with most yakitori restaurants, prices don’t come cheap but this can be said to be fairly reasonable. Coupled with its ease of accessibility and location, it makes for a fulfilling and satisfying dining experience.

Came here for dinner. Food is average, the same as what you get in a Japanese food outlet. The only exception is the super fresh sashimi and great service. Unless you like sashimi, otherwise not recommended to come here. Price is on the high side. Only one plate of sashimi for two and a few dishes for 3 cost close to $200.

This Japanese restaurant is on the 4th floor of Plaza Singapura, so unless you r looking 4 it, u may not chance upon it.

Nonetheless, it was fully packed on this long Deepavali weekend.

I would always eat the grilled fishheads here as they are done perfectly – crispy on the outside and fresh on the inside (not over-cooked). Furthermore, it is priced reasonably, unlike at some eateries .

Their Chirashi bowls have generous amounts of rawfish and roes and you can taste the freshness with each bite.

    A delightful dinner.

Some things were nice. The chawanmushi. The cooked food in general. You should stay away from their sashimi though. We eat sashimi quite frequently. What we had here was sliced thinly and not at all fresh. Dee, the more sensitive one, asked why everything was covered in slime. Which I as well agreed with.

Service was somewhat poor. The staff thumps your food onto the table with a vengeance. This is after spinning around looking for the table a good minute. We also watched as the table in front of us asked for a plate of edamame shells to be cleared. Thrice. Let’s not mention the trip and crash of a full tray of food. Let’s not.

Stick with the cooked food, lower your expectations in service, and you’ll be fine. It’s decent, really, and well priced for where it is. You’re not going to be blown away, is all.

Some places over fry the batter but not here. Even my kids love it! Was recommended their house brand sake. Really nice too. Would definitely come back again. Excellent service and food! Do reserve in advance as the place is crowded during peak hours.

Visited Kai Sushi & Robatayaki at Plaza Singapura for lunch yesterday.
Nice place with good ambience and quality Japanese food. It is indeed a good place to have a relaxing meal with friends. The menu is extensive and the price is affordable. Staff were friendly and prompt in attending to our requests.
We were pleased with our order of salmon, unagi, beef and avocado salad and jellyfish, as all were fresh, delectable and flavourful and in decent portion.
We have had a delightful meal.

Decent grilled skewers, recommend the enoki bacon maki and tsukune, as well as the yaki onigiri.

For those who have visited Hai Sushi before when it was called “Kai Sushi” – there had been a change of management and food quality I felt were much improved since my last visit in Jan 2022.

We had the premium bara chirashi which was stocked to the brim with high quality sashimi, negitori, uni and ikura and I was bursting by the end of the bowl!

Ordered a couple of dishes but only took a few pictures. Forgot the exact name on the menu but this Unagi bento and Unagi maki taste is awesome! On top of this, you need to order their Hot Sake! Smells great, taste good and beat of all, it is so cheap!

Reasonable price for skewer and its ala carte.

The karrage is one of the best I tried. Not oily and salty, just nice, and the portion is great for its price.

We had a chef selection sashimi only to be told it’s actually a permanent selection and not exactly chef selection, ika was not so good, salmon teriyaki was ok.
    Price personally felt not really.
    Rest was so so.

I would say this shop is not obvious and you might missed it if u don’t pay attention. I ordered 2 type of food. Pricing was okay and matched with the quality.

Easily my go-to for Japanese food. Been here quite a number of times and each visit I was not disappointed. In my experience, service is not as bad as many reviews say it is, and food quality has been consistent throughout.

The teriyaki fried chicken in the box is super delicious. Must must try. And the chirashi is, I dare say, one of the best in SG in this price range (tbh on par or even better than tanuki, King Kong, koji, sushi bar) – no fancy seasoning, just good ol’ Japanese white rice w fresh sashimi. Most of these mains come with miso soup and chawanmushi (of which is really silky) so it’s really worth it!

Sashimi is worth dying for, huge piece folded in half with delicious wasabi a slight dip in soy sauce, delicious.

    Teriyaki squid was okay though.

Pricing is reasonable as each set comes with superb chawanmushi and miso soup.

The portion is decent and I like the egg in the chirashi don and the chawanmushi. However, overall, the Chirashi Don itself wasn’t that special and the taste was so-so for me.

    INCESSANT MUSIC REPEAT
Lovely Staff, Friendly Service, Nice Decor…
    Menus were worn and smelly.
    Food quality was average.
Whilst Dining, I noticed there was this strange song that kept repeating.
I assumed there was a glitch with the sound system…Nope!
After inquiring about this, I was informed that the restaurant only plays this one particular song. OVER AND OVER!!!
The owner must like this song VERY MUCH!
I feel so bad for the poor staff who have to endure this musical purgatory!
So, if you like a bit of repetition, you can enjoy this music feature to the fullest!

Always love to dine here, their Chirashi Don is so good, comes with miso soup and chawanmushi. Staff is very friendly and helpful, she always refilled our ice green tea jug whenever it’s running low. Hope their quality would be maintained!

Great array of Japanese food selection at a very reasonable price. But I will highly recommend to try their Chirashi and Don selection. Not forgetting their sashimi and their yakitori too.

Hai Sushi (previously known as Kai Sushi) is a discreetly tucked away restaurant in Plaza Singapura that provides one of the freshest sushi in the area with generous portions and reasonable prices. I was fortunate to walk in without a reservation considering the long lines during a Friday night but would nevertheless recommend making a reservation. Many of their products are carefully picked and air flown from Japan to Singapore and the wide array of fresh seafood choices are simply mouthwatering. I highly recommend their signature Chirashi bowls and sashimi selections. With their free flow of green tea, and a side of chawamushi with a set meal, you’re sure to get a bang for your buck. A wonderful find for those seeking value and an authentic Japanese experience.

Hai Sushi has high quality sushi and seafood. The service was extremely fast and impeccable. One of my favourite dishes was the Chirashi and the chawamushi was spot on I would highly recommend those that are hesitant to visit to wait no longer and try their dishes! There was just a short waiting time and the food was served within 5-10 mins.

One of the few places that has authentically Japanese robatayaki at affordable prices. The quality has also stayed good and consistent over the years! Their sashimi is extremely fresh and beautifully presented and is a must try!

Used to come here all the time due to the consistency of the food and value for money.

However they have recently changed to another owner and the food standards have dropped – ika we ordered was extremely dry and chewy. Food prices have went up as well and their sets no longer come with chawanmushi and salad (price more expensive yet still removing 2 of their sides!)

Extremely disappointing and I doubt I will be back again. That said, service was excellent so shout out to the servers. They were friendly and refills to the green tea were given timely.

Had the chirashi and sashimi don. The sashimi are great and portion are generous for the price. However the accompanying rice did not complement the sashimi. If the rice is better, would have given 5 stars.
