I felt pretentious going here with so many good hawker centres around. But damn it was comfortable in there, and the food was 5/5. $16 for a bowl of healthy delicious food in a nice air conditioned place was just what I needed today!

I had a short stay in Singapore and had great difficulty finding Gluten free food (I have coeliac disease). This knew exactly what was gluten free on their menu making it very easy to order. The food was also delicious. This is a must visit for coeliacs visiting Singapore

Great food but pricey. Queue is quite insane on weekday lunch with the office crowd. They have great cakes options for vegan and GF diets as well. And some good coffee! Love the standing tables outside! Great option when it gets too crowded.

The food is fresh, lunch times are crowded and chairs are a bit uncomfortable. But otherwise, the staff are very cordial, helping and the food menu is not very typical, offers veriety. I went there with a good friend so my time was well spent, but make sure you visit there at least once for the sheer food. Cheers.

It is nice. I love the choices and the food. It’s quality. But … paying $16+ for lunch with serving sizes that are not generous – discourages me from going there often. Still it is a nice place to go to every now and then.

Located in CBD area of SG, this place serve you good protein bowl, you can be total vegetarian or you can choose no carbs at all. Me and my friends came here after our graduation for lunch. She recommended us this place. It’s not easily noticed if you unless you pass by every day.

Upon arriving, i noticed there’s no shop name, my friend said the name was bases but it’s actually grain traders omg. The ambience of the place during daytime mostly using sunlight last time, but there’s also lights on. The staff was busy handling customer as there’s no one to clean the table and yes it’s self service but who is going to wipe the table . You’re required to queue and choose your food, start from base, topping, sauce and add-on stuff. I thought since it’s protein bowl / healthy bowl outlet, there’s no such thing as asian choice, but there’s kimchi, sambal & curry sauce and radish pickles.

Overall the food tasted okay, it’s served in room temperature and it depends on what’s your base is, if it’s rice can be served warm, if it’s not, usually it’s either room temperature or cold. sauce choices mostly western stuff, like mustard, sesame dressing, mayo and even pesto. Personally this is quite expensive ($16-18 for each of us last time) for me if you compare it with other options, but since it’s located in CBD area so you can’t complain LOL.

    scoring time;
    Food 3/5
    Taste 3/5
    Price 2/5
    Service 2/5
    Ambience 2/5
    Location 3/5

Overall score of 2.5 out of 5 stars, the only issue was the location.

    Would i come back? No.

Would i recommend this place? Only if you got extra money to burn.

Healthy lunch options for S$16! Choose 1 base (grains or greens), 1 protein option, 1 hot vegetables, 2 cold vegetables, 1 topping (nuts, seeds) and sauce. The proteins could’ve been bigger, but the portions are still big! You won’t leave the place still feeling hungry.

Another one of my fave spots for good clean eating apart from Smol. When I need to detox, or prep for a marathon, I’m here all the time to make sure that I get my plant-based protein in. Lovely area to hang out with friends for healthy wholesome lunches as well. Would recommend to folks trying to eat cleaner and stay fit as well. If you’re in a hurry to go back to office, this place is perfect too!

Salad is pretty good, but rather expensive at $16+ per pop. Not what you would call value for money, but you can see that this is a place that does not target locals. Very much a frou-frou restaurant that doesn’t taste too bad.

Don’t bother with the cold brew coffee. It tastes more diluted AND bland than $2 coffees that you can get outside. Even Macdonalds coffee is better. However, if you would like to be seen spending money that normal people would not, get it (most expensive item on the drinks menu IIRC)

Nice place if you want to grab a bite in the centre but want to have a healthy option. A lot of stuff had run out and for the toilet I had to ask the cook for the key and go outside and find my own way to the bathrooms. Feels a bit unfriendly, also with the huge “clean your own table” texts on the wall seemed a bit, ehh, out of place…It feels a like they are joining in on the health food hype but are not in it with their hearts. Either be alternative or trendy, but this seems to miss it on both ends. Still a nice place to have a health bite though.

One of those healthy food craze hype up kinda place. Food is really good definitely; but not somewhere I can eat all the time because of the price tag that comes along with each bowl. My friend swears by their cold brew though, and I tried it – it’s indeed legendary. But due to purse strings constraints, I’ve yet to indulge in a bottle of my own. Glorified rabbit food.

Their MealPal item is really worth it – about the cheapest “superfood” offered in CBD.

The lunchbox is always ready prior to my pick-up, showing their operation is well planned. Staff is also super friendly.

One downside (not related to MealPal) is it gets super busy during peak lunch hours – long queue for dine-ins. Default menu is quite pricey as well.

So I’d recommend their MealPal items to skip the queue and pay cheaper.

I love DIY meals in a bowl as if it turns out terrible looking and/or tasting, I really only have myself to blame. Fortunately, I’m always up for experimenting with combinations so long as the ingredients are good. Grain Traders is on the pricier end, but they have enough diversity of options that make it a go-to when I feel guilty about binging on McDs and like to pretend every once in a while that I eat healthy.

Grain Traders is another one of those healthy lunch places for CBD workers who don’t mind spending $15-20 on lunch. It’s the usual protein + carb + veggies + sauce affair only the quality of the food is definitely significantly higher than other similar establishments.

I would actually give it a 5* review if it wasn’t for the exceptionally tight portion’s of protein they give. The standard $16 lunch comes with a pathetic 80g serving of protein (Chicken, Salmon etc) so unless you weigh 45kg and don’t exercise, it’s pretty likely you will need to double protein, which brings it to nearly $20. The problem is, even when you do order double protein, they literally measure out exactly 160g, which for a gym going 6″ man (A significant part of their target audience), really isn’t enough. I wouldn’t complain if it was $10 but for $20 I really think they could be a bit more generous with the chicken, which isn’t exactly a particularly expensive cost. It feels like the place is being run by an accountant rather than a passionate chef and that’s a real shame as the food really is tasty and nutritious. I would urge them to think about what is more important, customer satisfaction or maximizing profit margin’s by ripping people off.

Well!! This place is an up-marked restaurant serving variety of salads including vegan, vegetarian, nonveg.
Ambience: indoor/outdoor – prefer outdoor, its fun and different to stand and eat
Quality: mostly organic and 5 star for quality
Taste: It is tasty compared to other healthy options.
Cost: now, when quality matters, cost is obviously high. Average $20 per person

Worth visit and spending on your meal.

I am so in love with their food, I would consider moving to Singapore for it Seriously, I was on holiday for almost a week and I’ve had 4 separate meals there. Their food matches my own (amateur) philosophy about eating and nutrition. Nothing but love, also for the coffee!! That being said, my husband didn’t love it as much as I did: his ideal meal is a hamburger, and although you can make many personalized combinations of items, getting anywhere close to a burger is a challenge.
So in love am I with this restaurant, that this is actually the first review I ever post. So if you read this and enjoy their meals, have a bite for me as well. From my part, you can’t go wrong with anything you choose.

I visited Grain Traders on 9 Jan 2020 for lunch.

Location: smacked right in the middle of Raffles Place, it was unbeatable location that is convenient for lunch crowds.

Environment: I would not say it has a nice ambiance but decent clean place for your usual salad and working crowds. It is a bit too noisy unless you go on non peak time.

Food: I chose the brown rice and actually i like it! It was cooked with coconut milk i believe as there was a thick coconut milk taste and i love it. The rest of the side dishes/veggie/proteins are nice and gave a great taste to the “ang mo chye beng” (translated to western vegetable rice).

Price: I didn’t note the price of the salad because I added on a drink that cost about $22 so I guess the salad is about $16 or so. It is a bit pricey and on the high side. I would go there once in a blue moon but not frequently because this is not a normal everyday meal.

First off, this place has some good tasting healthy options. Yes it’s pricey, but I maintain my 5 star rating for 2 reason. 1) It differentiates itself from other places as the components that you add are marinated, pickled etc etc vs just being simple add one. 2) You do not pay additional for “premium” meats such as salmon etc. It is kind of refreshing just chop using what you want for $16.

Personally this is quite expensive ($16-18 for each of us last time) for me if you compare it with other options, but since it’s located in CBD area so you can’t complain LOL.

    scoring time;
    Food 3/5
    Taste 3/5
    Price 2/5
    Service 2/5
    Ambience 2/5
    Location 3/5

Overall score of 2.5 out of 5 stars, the only issue was the location.

    Would i come back? No.

Would i recommend this place? Only if you got extra money to burn.

Disappointing – that’s the word that comes to mind after my trip to Grain Traders today. It’s probably my own fault. I’ve seen reviews and heard many say that it is over-priced. So maybe it was sort of reassuring today that I ended up paying $19 for a tiny piece of salmon, a few vegetables and quinoa. As a long time patron of healthy box places – Heybo, Daily Cut, Omnivore etc – I feel I know what ‘good’ is in terms of quality and price and these guys are definitely not delivering it. I would rather walk 5 mins further to get something as good or better for $5 less over by Raffles Place.

This place is the real-life equivalent of the most famous Seinfeld episode, The Soup Nazi. They have amazing quality food, however, if you queue from the wrong direction, or dare to show up during those 30 minutes per day (within opening hours) that they are changing the menu, you’ll consistently get reprimanded.

Quite crowded for lunch as any other place in CBD would be, but offers a great selection of healthy and wholesome foods. They have a convenient list of suggested combinations that you can order, or you can build your own by adding carbs, proteins, etc. I did find some of their sauces to be quite bland and portion size can vary depending on the day, but overall a great place for a healthy lunch which, of course, is somewhat overpriced. This is to be expected given the location. You’ll have enough time while queuing to admire the inside which is quite nicely done.

Okay, my friend told me about this place, and they are famous for the build your own bowl for $16 a bowl.

You basically choose a menu from each of these category :
    Grains
    Proteins
    Hot veggies
Cold veggies >> except for this, you can choose 2 menu
    Toppings
    Sauce

    I chose:
    Quinoa (ok)
    Tune (very good!)
    Wild mushrooms (ok)
    Apple kimchi (more than ok)
    Coleslaw (ok)
Mixed nuts (verygood cause it really complements the meal)
    Tamarind sauce (ok)

Have a look at the picture and choose your meal first before you go in to the queue.

    Overall meal: just okay
    Special points:
    – Tuna (must try)
    – Healthy
    – Nice place

    What needs to improve:
Staff could be more accommodating to first time visitors. But overall they are nice

Tried lunch for the first time today. The lunch line looked super long, but it was actually only about 10 minutes wait. Great food, lots of choices, and very satisfying. Is $16 net a lot of money compared to $5 at economy rice? Sure. But you’re not going to get seared tuna and quinoa for $5 anywhere. PS: Coffee is great too- and they have a frequent coffee card system you don’t have to carry around in your pocket.
