Expensive for not a lot of meat. Meat was tough and hard to pry from bones. My chopsticks were bending trying to get the meat off. Soup had a strong pepper taste and service was good as my soup was refilled every 5mins. Only giving 3 stars for the decent soup and service.

Founder Bak Kut Teh @ Bugis Point

One of the recommended Bak Kut Teh restaurants. Because the taste like Kut Teh is very delicious. Only the meat is a bit hard, so it takes effort to chew it. Unlike the pork leg dishes, the lift is soft and tastes good. In addition, I tried the tofu which was given chocolate sauce, it was a bit too medicinal. The vegetables are delicious, and cooked just right. the salted vegetables need to be tried.

Strategic location because it’s next to Bugis junction. The capacity is quite large. Friendly and fast service.

Bad experience with this store –
VERY disappointed. It’s speaks a lot about the attitude they have to their customers, when they can casually lie to you.

I have been here 2 times before and both times they ran out of their lean meat soup. To avoid making a pointless trip down, I called ahead asking if the above dish is available. The lady on the phone confirmed it is available. When I reached and started ordering however, they said the lean meat soup is sold out, again.
I was flabaggusted. The shop just told me no more then 5 mins ago that they have the dish in stock, but it’s actually sold out.

Why lie to your customer? If the dish was sold out, you could have just told me so and I could have gone to another outlet. Instead I was left with no time left to reach any other outlet and dish options that I was not interested in.
I felt that the reply they gave over the phone was just a casual way to brush off the call of a customer.
Ex-customer now. I’m avoiding this store from now on.

Objective Review of their Bak Kut Teh –
Soup – Founder Bak Kut Teh’s soup is a bit more on the oily and peppery side. Their soup has a visibility thick layer of oil on the top and has A LOT of pepper in it. I love peppery soup, but this is just a little bit too strong. Still very much enjoyable if this is your preference.

Meat – they have 2 options for the normal bak kut Teh, one is more expensive and includes more tender pieces of meat. I have tried both version. The more pricer version is OK. The cheaper version should be avoided unless you love tough, TOUGH meat. Both versions don’t have any pork smell that you find in inferior brands.

Other dishes – they have a wider variety of other dishes to go with the bak kut Teh, more then most other brands.

Over all – Founder Bak Kut Teh is more pricer then other brands. Their soup is OK, if you like more peppery soup and don’t mind the oil. It is their customer service that needs working on.

If you like to eat Bak Kut Teh Come and try this restaurant. It’s delicious. Walking through at night, it’s very crowded. So I had to try it during the day. If it’s not for the meal, the restaurant will be empty. Good service. Always come to ask and add soup. Oh, Patonggo is very delicious.

Their pepper based bak kut teh is quite ok, but the good thing is that it is not crowded at all during dinner time hence it will be a good choice for quick dinner at Bugis area.

  30. Avatar photo

Signboard menu signature? Bakutee SGD10++. I think it’s a little more expensive than Song Fa, but maybe that’s why ++ is said to be a rip-off? It seems that there is no rip-off because it is a shop with a local feel.
The meat here is big, soft and juicy! Don’t forget to dip it in the sauce! Pepper is effective in the soup, but it is diluted because it is a premise to add sauce. Personally, I like Song Fa because it has more garlic. It’s currently the No. 1 bak kut teh in Singapore.
Bak kut teh + rice (SGD1) + one small plate (SGD3-7) will fill most people.

Unlike the Malaysian type of bak kut teh, Singapore ‘s bak kut teh is very peppery. However, it is this feeling of warmth (from the pepper) that maddening me fall in love with eating this.
One little shortcoming was that the toilet was ” out of service “.

Gave a 2nd chance to try Founders again because of all the hype, but both visits at different branches we were served with tough pork. Soup is not bad. But the supposed star of the show is tough. Plus is pricey for this kind of standard. Prefer Songfa anytime.

Founder’s serves one of the tastiest Bah Kut Teh (or Pork Ribs Soup) in Singapore, among other favourites such as Song Fa and Ya Hua Bah Kut Teh. Unlike the latter two, the soup at Founder’s is slightly darker in tone and more fragrant, yet still easy enough for those who prefer a light meal.

Just had another Bak Kut teh from another reputable brand and realised why founder Bak Kut Teh is still the best of the best and my go to Bak Kut Teh place. The soup is flavourful without it being too heavy for the palate. Unlike what I had earlier which was tasty but it was also oily at the same time. You can also be certain that you will be served with tender, fall off the bone pork ribs always.

The soup was great – it’s really savory, with a sharp twang of spices in the finish – but the meat (I had the Founder Bak Kut Teh bowl, which contains 1 spare rib piece and several chunks of meat) was bland, at least when compared to other bak kut teh joints.

A friend and I also shared a portion of blanched chye sim, which was drizzled with some fried shallots and oyster sauce.

Palatable, but expensive for the quality. Even without drinks (it’s S$2 for coke here!) the bill came up to about S$16/person.

If you’re looking to try authentic teochew style bak kut teh grandma’s recipe, this is as close as you can get it, it may be too peppery and garlicky for some, but this is the way I like it, the price is reasonable and service is quick, not very crowded during afternoon tea-break time, friendly waitress.

Also recommend the shrimp paste chicken wings, swap your rice to mee-sua, charcoal you-tiao on the other hand nothing special besides the appearance.

Glad that this place is air condition!

I’m no bak kut teh expert but i found the pork soup here very tasty. I do prefer the peppery clear broth teochew style over the dark broth, herbal Malaysian style, so this place was right up my alley. Tip: i didn’t detect much of a difference between the standard and premium pork items. In fact i preferred the regular pork ribs.

Not up to standard. Meat is tough and soup too peppery. Mostly made up of pepper and nothing else. Side dishes like Tao Pok is not braised thoroughly and tough, and salted vegetables is too oily.

Price on the high side. I can find somewhere much better, and cheaper too. 2 stars is for good service such as friendly cashier, regular top-ups of soup by servers, and ushers to find a table and seats are helpful. Food wise,

(Disclaimer: I ate at 8.30pm on a weekday night. Maybe that’s why it tasted weary and old?)

  117. Avatar photo

The initiator who fell in love with it the first time I ate it, thought it was more delicious than other famous ones, and the peppery taste was particularly pungent. Those who don’t like it should be careful.

The black one is the new product ‘Hey! Youtiao’, which is fried dough sticks with bamboo charcoal powder. I thought it was just a gimmick, but I didn’t know it was very good. You can really taste a little bit of bamboo charcoal! It’s crunchy, maybe because of the bamboo charcoal. Will not feel greasy, push and push.

My favourite BKT in Singapore! So glad they opened this branch near Bugis, can shop, eat, and shop, again! The quality of food is as good as the other stores! My usual order of mee sua soup is the ultimate comfort to my tummy. The soup is tasty, flavourful, with the right amount of peppery kick! Mee sua is cooked to just the right doneness! Service is efficient and polite, definitely going back again and again! yummy!!

Overall experience was okay, no WOW factor inspite of knowing it’s famous in Singapore.
    Here my reviews:
    • Ambience – like normal local hawker centre set-up except it’s their only restaurant
    • Staff – they’re very efficient with taking order, serving food and refilling the soup
    • Menu – they have more variety of food to choose, which I think it’s good especially the veggie side.
    • Food Portion and Quality – we ordered
Founder Bak Kut Teh – I would say, I really didn’t like the taste. I couldn’t taste the rich herby flavour of the soup. Soup itself very oily and you feel like it’s mostly water as it’s lack of flavour. Meat – not so tender, again lack of flavour, can taste mainly the fat of the meat.
2 veggies – strong flavour on this case (too much salt) for my taste and it’s not hot when it’s served
Nuts – we both like the taste of it. Not too powerful but it’s just nice
Cold Barley Drink – first of all, it’s packed and ready to drink, so it’s not fresh and it’s way too sweet. You can’t even taste the barley in it.
    • Price – we’re actually very surprised with the price as we felt like it’s way too pricey with its quality.

So, question if I would recommend – maybe. You can try, coz my reviews is based on my personal taste. Perhaps you might like it since it’s well known Bak Kut Teh. But for me, it’s not a place that I would keep coming back. Good that we tried…..

I loved the original outlet, but unfortunately, the food was bad for this outlet.

Ordered mixed organ soup and preserved vegetable.
The organ was not fresh, and the sliced pork was tough. Seems like the quality control is not standardised amongst the different outlets.

Preserved Vegetable was NICE! Big portion as well.

Bak Kut Teh, one of Singapore’s classic gourmet dishes, is a famous Bak Kut Teh chain in Japan.

It is located near Bugis in the center, so access is good.

I have the impression that the price is a little higher than SongFa, but the high point of Founder is that you can drink beer! We offer cans of Heineken.
The compatibility of beer and bakute is the best.

I often use it when my drinking friend comes to Singapore for a trip. If you want to eat in a calm atmosphere, SongFa may be more recommended.

A short queue on a Friday evening but we’re quickly ushered to the seats. The prosperity bak kut teh were easy to eat (almost boneless) and we had also ordered the braised bean curbs.
