Was meeting my wife at Somerset MRT train station for dinner. Usually, one of the cheaper option was the food court at 313@Somerset but we decided to walk around as we were not that hungry. Then we came across this place called – Encik Tan. I think we have eaten at their other outlet before and knew this was a relatively cheaper option.
We shared a carrot cake which was quite good.
We also shared a claypot rice which my wife said she don’t mind having again. Maybe because they have salted fish in there.

One of the halal food with Chinese food taste. I ordered the Wanton Noodle Ful set for about 6 bucks, I kind of forgot and drank it iced milo. To be honest, the taste doesn’t fit my tongue, but I can still go in, and it’s quite filling… Not bad as an alternative choice of halal food, when I’m very tired of eating halal food with Indian flavors…

Service was real slow at the beverage counter. Ordered pan mee and queued for a teh si siu dai. For other outlets, seeing 3 customers ahead shouldn’t be a long waiting time but the buzzer had buzzed 3 times and the lady behind the counter was still slowly serving. Worst of all, told her I wanted a teh si siu dai, and she heard with ice. Told me I just need to say Siu dai when I order. She’s definately not awake.

Speed can be improve especially noddle soup section with long queue.

Always love to come to Encik Tan. All of the food, from the nasi to the noodle. All are delicious . When I went to Singapore recently, I found out that the branch at Bugis + are permanently closed. But I do found Encik Tan at Vivo City, Orchard Gateway, Waterway Point and Kallang Wave Mall. Overall so happy .

The Fried Oyster (orh Lua) is the crispy type, and the oysters are of a good size. Not those stingy and dry ones at most hawker centres.
The Teh C also not stingy with the milk and is smooth. No siap siap

Penang Char Kway Teow was delicious albeit measly portions for S$5, the prawns are something special however. Nanyang Kopi was just slightly bland and could have used a touch more flavour. As opined by other consumers, the service here needs to improve. A basic ‘thank you’ was not heard throughout both transactions at the fried delights and drinks counter. If you’re looking for a quick meal and don’t care about being served with basic courtesy, this is the place.

It was not bad for the price. SGD5 for curry chicken noodle with decent taste, not bad at all. And further more, it is Halal.

I had the curry rice while my Girlfriend had the wanton mee.
The Curry in the curry rice is a little too sweet, but the fried eggs and fried chicken is nubbad. Overall I would eat it this dish again. There were plenty of seats and the queue was short when I was there. Fills up my belly with juicy eggs and chicken.
The colour of the wanton mee was strange, the noodles were a strange bright yellow and the charsiew was unusually red too, making the dish look like toys. It was very mid, only 3 wantons and the noodles were chewy, in a bad way. The only thing that was decent was the soup (evidently, in the picture as it was clapped up)
One more thing… The payment bro… shopee pay and cash only? Get with the times
Used to patronise frequently but not anymore. Service is good but hygiene is bad. Don’t have cleaners to clear up the dishes and everything is stillon the table after left there by customer. And the spoon and fork section was very very dirty and it is disgusting. Please improve the condition because I went there today around 3pm and its not even crowded. So you can do better.
