It’s not the first time dining here and they always maintain their standard! The favourite dishes include the ikan belado and the foo yong omelette, both are cooked to perfection. This time, also ordered a chendol to try and while it might be a little too sweet, it was great tasting nonetheless. Definitely will return and hopefully try something different next time.

Ordered take away via food delivery, food took quite a while to arrive, so need to order in advance. Fish head curry and noodles was on point, would be perfect if fish head had more curry sauce. The omelet was normal. Wife approve the food too. …

If you want the warmness of homecooked food & local delights, cosy 80s ambience & far away from the usual crowds. The location is a plus point as it is located along a row of shophouses in the east. The staff & owner are friendly & service is good. If the weather permits, try dining alfresco as the surroundings are very pretty & traffic is little.

Very reasonable price in an aircon environment. Food is above average in taste. Portion is big for one person. A pity that the seafood hor fun does not have wok hei. Chendol is good but the green chendol strands were a little too hard and I would appreciate if the glass was bigger. Definitely will be back for more!

Review : Different Taste & SHAO are 2 restaurant lining this stretch of Frankel Ave. I had the opportunity to try both within a day and they are somewhat similar in their offerings yet much different in taste and presentation. Service wise, both are good and accomodating. The highlight dishes for Different Taste are the Hae Jo (Prawn Ngoh Hiang) and the Ikan Belado.

I ordered a takeaway meal and left the dessert out and she actually called me, and offered to make a new one for me when i went back to collect it because it’s been sitting out for awhile. Tip top customer service!

OMG. So glad I found this place again! We patronised their restaurant for more than 10 years ago at West Coast area when I was younger. Until recently, I found this place at Frankel! I couldnt express my happiness.

The food is still super good, really different from the food I had outside. Considered one of my favourite “Zi Char” place. Food has hotel standard! Service is great and food is served quickly (We went there about 8:45PM)

All time favourite would be their Chendol. I fell in love with the hum instantly. It’s very well marinated. Everything was beyond awesome!

Too hungry and excited to take photos. Will definitely come back, and already told my family this should be a weekly thing!

    Have been here twice.
Food in general tastes good. However they could do well to keep food quality consistent.

The weekend visit was great as most of the dishes were tasty, esp the signatures — honey pork ribs, curry fish head, fried prawn roll.

The more recent weekday visit had us invest less-than-tasty dishes. The signatures were not as good.

Definitely one of the few places i would suggest for curry fish head… has a unique sour taste (which is nice) and not too spicy and not too overwhelming with coconut milk. Ayam bua keluck and Marmite pork spare ribs are also nice. Penang fried kway teow was decent. Maybe we ordered too many nice dishes and the sambal kangkong pales in comparison.

Typical home cooked Chinese meal is the fare here. I like that the simple ambience, efficiently served. I used to visited them regularly, even from their humble beginnings in Pasir Ris Bowling Alley. Unfortunately, recently in April 2019, the waiting staff and cooks were uncoordinated and the food was served in a fragmented order or slow. Affordable family food with no GST and service charge; still a big plus.

I can’t make out what its cuisine is. It is definitely not Peranakan as some people think it is. Eg, the ayam buah keluak does not taste authentic. Nyonya chap chye is not served. I will classify it as a zhi char restaurant. I will recommend just a few dishes – prawn roll, fish head curry, ikan belado.
The dessert is not enticing. The chendol uses low-quality gula melaka. The portions are small, relative to the price.

Came with relatives, my first time here. Very family orientated, relaxed environment. Usual round restaurant tables. Pleased to see smaller rectangular tables for 4 persons. Service staff were very obliging, pleasant and attentive. The fish head curry was not spicy but ok. Recommend esp kangkong blachang with just right amount of chilli that kids can eat it. Strongly recommend the honey….pork slices. However the buah keluak tho’ filled with right qty of meat, was not up to my expectation and left me wanting to prepare my own buah keluak. Overall, visit here if you want a casual a/c restaurant to have your meals with family and kids and you are not too fussy with your food.

I was introduced to this place by my friend who claimed their food was really good. In my opinion, the food was really mediocre but the price was really expensive for a student. The fried rice was really dry and I had to pay for the water there. My money wouldve been more well spent buying food from saizerya next door. For those wondering, there are toilets and parking lots in the area. This place is also wheelchair accessible with lifts and ramps to accommodate wheelchairs.

Different Taste is another gem in Siglap. It started at the old Jackie’s Bowl and finally moved to Frankel Avenue. This is a place to go for good local food at a reasonable price. Customer service is decent. I ordered the YangChow fried rice and the portion is decent. The fried rice has the wok hei and is very delicious. I also ordered a clay pot tofu for sharing. I cannot find anything wrong with this dish. The tofu is tasty. My wife had the Penang fried kwayteow and she was impressed. The cafe name is apt. Kind of local zhi char but in aircon environment. Food is average and a little bland. The Belado fish kind of overly fried and dry. Lovely and great tasting traditional delights. We had the Penang char kuay teow, seafood fried rice, tauhu bakar, rojak and crispy noodles. Good value.

Ordered their today special, “garlic see hum”, fried garlic chicken, claypot tofu and penang char kway teow. Every dish was above average except the fried garlic chicken., which not fully cooked, there was still blood on the meat and the meat was still on the semi cooked status. Taste was blend. Felt that the price for the dishes were on the high side.

Ordered take away via food delivery, food took quite a while to arrive, so need to order in advance. Fish head curry and noodles was on point, would be perfect if fish head had more curry sauce. The omelet was normal. Wife approve the food too. …
