Friendly eatery in Hougang/Kovan neighborhood area, finally get to visited it first time as it’s always crowded during dinning hours when I walked past.

Ordered a red snapper fish head curry and bitter gourd with eggs for two person to share. The portion is 1/2 fish head for the dish and is just nice for 2 person to share with okra and eggplants, the curry gravy is not too spicy with the right amount of sourness to taste on it own. The item that I missed is pineapple to add the additional taste or sweetness with the curry gravy.

The bitter gourd with eggs is nice also and is the first time I have more vegetables than eggs in this dish which is welcoming for me too.

Overall is a nice dinning experience and the crowd do move fast, which I assume the queue if any should be able to clear quickly.

Curry Fish Head is a must to order !
2 Pax 3 dishes including curry fish head = $46.
Dishes are small not recommended for big group as it’s over price.

Simple food shop that sells mainly fish head curry, as well as other dishes (we tried the Otah, minced vege, pork slices as well oyster omelet)

The fish head curry is the best dish for me, but it’s more of an Assam fish head curry due to its sourness. You can taste some powder but it’s not excessive.

The Otah seems from frozen and the other dishes are pretty small-ish but it’s generally okay (4 stars)

Now for the dessert, the chendol is bad, but the yam is goooood

Not cheap, for 2 pax it cost us $50 or more. Quantity quite small, quality slightly above average but service so-so and place is cramped. Not recommended. Many better tze char nearby, like the one beside the bowling centre…

Bought the fish head curry for dinner, it’s not the spicy type.

More of a mild version of curry with a hint of sourness. Very appetizing and refreshing.

Fish head was very fresh as mention by my parent. Would buy again if I’m nearby.

Very comforting and down-to-earth fish head curry here. The seasoning of the curry is excellent, and the fish is tender and moist. They have several other nice dishes as well (prawn paste chicken). The food priced fairly as well.

I would rate this place 4.2 stars.

Great place to have fish head/tail curry. I’d recommend the fish tail. One of my favourite in Singapore. Price is reasonable and waiters are friendly and polite. It gets really crowded on weekends and there are limited seats, so come early.

Delicious curry fish! Our family loves coming here for dinner. Their dishes are very home-style cooking.

Some of our must order dishes are:
Curry fish, stir fry Cabbage, Raddish omettle and the garlic pork chop!

Do call ahead to make a reservation to avoid disappointment. Cos some of their popular dishes like the curry fish tail, otah and prawn roll get sold out rather fast

We ordered the Curry Fish Tail at $30 and Prawn Paste chicken wing at $8. The curry gravy does not have that Oomph when we eat. For those who likes spicy, this is not the one. It tastes more like a sweetish paste and not as lemak. The chicken is so so. The price of the fish is not exactly cheap.

Food – Decent. I didn’t like the Rendang Chicken – too much coconut for my preference. I like the Egg Omelet, the Kangkong Belachan.
Ambience – Small little eatery, with smallish aircon area, and outside (under HDB shophouse. Tables mostly suited for smaller 4-6 gatherings, with maybe 2 for large sizes.
    Price – 10-15 per pax

The curry fish tail is good, not overly spicy for me. It has brinjal, tomatoes, lady fingers and taupok inside, good with rice or papadam which they also have. Paid $32 just for the fish tail curry not including other dishes. Salt and pepper prawn was okay but there were just 6 pieces inside. The rest of the dishes are just so-so, the spinach dish consisted of chopped spinach with cut hard boiled eggs on top, brinjal with chili was disappointing as the brinjal pieces were cut too thin and can hardly taste them among the thick chili paste. Nothing special about the omelette too and was very much like homemade.

Overall, size of the dishes were small, nothing spectacular about the taste, would consider price to be on the ‘ex’ side.

A small but cosy place that sells curry fish head and zhi char food within walking distance from Kovan MRT.

Their curry fish head is of course their signature dish, though I usually order the fish tail cause got more meat. The price is usually between $25 to $30 for the curry fish head, minus other add ons.

The curry is flavourful and not too spicy, and soaks up the fish meat nicely. Goes extremely well with rice too. A very affordable option. Has both aircon and outdoor seating. Worth returning.

Visited here despite the good reviews, but it is not really up to our expectations. Food wise is nothing impressive. Their signature $32 curry fish head tastes more like asam fish head, the milk cabbage is totally tasteless. The staff was hard selling their desserts when we already rejected multiple times.

Years ago when they just started, it costed only $13 plus free rice. Today, no free rice, same dish costs $31.40 including two plates of rice and a drink. The portion for the rice & fish head have also shrank. Taste wise more or less the same as before. Nowadays, they sell more variety of dishes.

The curry fish head is delicious! The food is cooked using canola oil and it’s MSG free too. We also tried other vegetables dishes as well and they taste yummy! The menu is reasonably priced, and the staffs are friendly and helpful. It usually crowded around dinner, so I’d usually head down earlier to avoid the crowd.

For a curry fish head worth $30 a bowl, it’s GOLDEN! Absolutely love the curry, not too spicy and has a tinge of lime taste, not asaamish but good enough. Fresh fish head was meaty and perfect for 2 Persons. Slightly better than Yu Cun fish head.

The curry fish head is pricier compared to normal Zi char stall at $30 but the fish head is huge and really really fresh so I would say it’s worth the price. The taste is closer to Indian style curry and slightly on the sour side instead of the normal Chinese style with coconut. We even kept the extra curry sauce for prata tmr lol! Curry Curry, it wasn’t all about curry, but a Chinese restaurant. Most dishes are not curry and do not have rice which is sold separately. The only set meal and for $10, is curry fish with rice which I order. Nice and fresh, taste great and of better quality too.
    Update :
The fired rice wasn’t nice. The waiter gave a choice of Yang Zhou or Salted Fish, ordered the Yang Zhou which tasted like some home-cooked salted fish, but with good ingredients like a couple of prawns for $9.00. Funny thing is the table was reserved and had to be seated outside the non-aircon. The reserved table remain unoccupied even after finishing the fried rice.

Went with some expectations of the curry fish, we ordered the curry fish tail for more meat ($28) but didn’t really like the taste as it was too sweet for us. But we really love the other dishes like egg omelette with prawns (one of the best I’ve ever ate) $7 and nai bai veg $7. Portions are small though.

They didn’t have ice for cold drinks, and couldn’t provide more than one small plate of cut chillies, which made us feel quite unsatisfied.

There’s not much drinks options too, only barley, luohanguo, sour plum or soft drinks.

Would reconsider before coming back again

My first choice for curry fish head. The curry fish head is very tasty to my liking. The curry sour and spice balance out nicely and is simply so good when served hot on the claypot with burner, can’t stop drinking it as if it was a soup. The fish head itself was very fresh. But $30 for half a fish head which portion was just good for 2 pax can be pricey. Thus I only visit this place occasionally.
But the prawn meat roll is disappointing which resulted me giving 4/5 stars. Texture of the prawn meat filling is too dry and hard like those factory made ngoh hiang, nothing special. Definitely will try out other dishes the next visit.

Traditional taste old school home style cooking . The curry fish is rich and nice not as sourish as the Indian restaurants , appetising just on its own and the rice. The fish is fresh and tender. The bitter gourd egg , fried cabbage all look similar when they were served and we thought we have accidentally ordered the same dish ? The bitter gourd was well prepared before cooking doesn’t have the bitterness. The fried cabbage was tasty with the dry scallop and shrimp in it . The prawn was simple and nice. Fresh succulent prawn with soya sauce my AH Ma style. The only dish that I do not appreciate much was the caipo egg coz sweet. Overall will return to try other dishes .

Very good and flavourful curry fish head ($30). There are other dishes as well but the portion getting ridiculously small. We ordered a fried gourd with egg and the size of the plate was like for Ya Kun french toast. Zi char dishes like prawn paste chicken, prawn/meat roll and omelette are good with wok hei. The ambience is weird as you have to eat on tables on the outside pavement which is right next to an NTUC and there are always people walking in and out of the supermarket gawking at you. If you don’t mind that then the food is good, though expensive for the portion.

I love all sorts of curries and have been wanting to try this place. Taste wise, they are competent, feels homey, like how mom/ granny would cook. But value wise, it’s very disappointing – due to the size of the servings/ portions. $30 for a fish head is not uncommon, but the size of the one we had was shocking. Vegetables too, they come in small servings not much bigger than individual/ separate portions from 菜饭 stalls. So, for the price they charge, I think it’s pretty low in value (my opinion).

We order the curry fish head (good), tofu and prawns pot (average) and potato leaf ( standard).
    For the price paid, reasonable.

Great curry taste and large serving of fish. The silver fish egg omelette was tasty and the dishes are overall good. Long queue during dinner time, advise to reach earlier. No GST, no service charge and no MSG claimed in their dishes.

Have tried a lot of curry fish head in SG and Malaysia – this one always hits the spot. I like more spicy / sour kind over milky / creamy kind and this one always delivers hehe

$7 for a small plate of vegetable but the fish head was good like any other good fish head curry rice. Prawn roll was so so. Overall it didn’t fill me and I have to go get something else to eat

Portion is v small and is very expensive.
Most ridiculous thing Order was the claypot tofu for $8 , there was only 2 prawn & 3 tofu pieces.
The price is not worth especially it’s in a heartlander place.
    Taste is just normal.

    Price: $
    Varieties:
    Taste:

    干煎虾
    Curry Fishhead
    Vegetables
    五香 Ngoh Hiang
    菜脯蛋 Preserved Raddish Egg

I don’t understand WHY most of the vegetables got to be chopped into tiny pieces – more to feeding infants. I’ve tried the egg with chinese spinach, 高丽菜, Kang Kong feels more normal.

MUST try for fishhead & prawns! The egg has a soft center. Ngoh Hiang taste good too!

Have been coming back for a few times.

Very no nonsense place with fast service and well cooked food. I enjoyed the fish head and dishes thoroughly though they were a little bland for my parents as they are used to food that are more salty. Overall I really enjoyed the food and meal and would recommend this place.

Pretty expensive for the beef rending, $7 for 8 pcs of meat but taste pretty good..The curry fish head is not to my liking as is too sourish..Closer to Assam fish head taste without the sweet palette..Total damage $30 Curry $7 Beef rendang

The fish head curry is lovely as the fish is fresh and the curry quite unique (less spicy and a tad sour). However, it is rather expensive (S$30).

Service fast and the fish came in piping hot clay pot.

Fish fresh, curry is tasty. Not the spicy type. Safe for general public. Veg portion small. Will come back for just the curry with rice .

Food quality is good. Restaurant is air-conditioned so u can eat piping hot fish curry in a hot afternoon and not be all sweaty and uncomfortable. $86 for 5 pax. ($30 for fish curry, everything else pretty cheap. No GST, awesome.)

Dishes and rice were cooked really well. Curry wasn’t as spicy as previously, but still extremely fragrant. Only gripe is they ran out of drinks and didnt allow us to bring out drinks. And that the prawn cracker ordered didnt arrive till almost the end of the meal, and then told us they ran out :/ we had papadums instead!

Quite a small but remarkable eating house with assortment in local dishes. Price is reasonable with good customers services. Popular dish would be the gish head curry.
