Servings are big enough. Though crispy and juicy but nothing special. Alot of chicken restaurant which I think are more tasty. Not a meal and place that i would travel for just to go back and eat. Place not so big.went there before 12 and not so crowded. Abit difficult to find the place. Price is okay.

This mall is one of the many malls surrounding the MRT Paya Lebar station. It is an old style mall compared to its neighbors. Small shops inside that sells mostly clothes and grocery items. The outside street level shops are remittance shops, pawnshops, money changers, mobile phones and accessories stores, and grocery items. There are some food shops inside.

Visit this mall after 8 pm for dinner. The mall still have that old charm for most people as it has been around for a long time. The place is deserted at night. Most shop are already closed. There are nothing much to comment about it, at the point of my visit, as there are nothing of note. The place is lively at the eateries outside the mall. The place was crowded with diners.
Same as previous visit, the mall was empty as most shop are already closed.

    Update 1809-2022.

It seems to be a very old mall, same feeling as beauty world at the end of Bukit Timah . I guess shops have been there forever, with some reasonable rent. It’s good, because low rent allow a lot of traditional hawkers or restaurants to survive. Location is in front of newer mall Kinex , with more upscale shops. I can’t really comment on the shops inside city plaza, as I tried only 4 of them : the Muslim hawker on the outskirts of the mall, Mr Mobile, a small grocery shop with a friendly boss, and a not so cutting edge (but friendly) hairdresser shop. But the overall feeling is a kind of sleepiness, low key management….frankly speaking, not the kind of place I would travel to, if not for Mr Mobile repair shop.

Really cheap apparel with some starting at $5. There were blouses, skirts, shorts and even dresses some of which were priced at $10. Some of these items can be found in the smaller neighborhood shops, but if you really want to pick and choose, you should visit City Plaza.

On level 1, there were a couple tidbit shops too and you can get all kinds of tidbits and crackers. Arnold’s fried chicken is on lvl 2 if you need lunch. There are also banks on lvl 1 if you need to do banking and the queues are relatively shorter as City Plaza is surrounded largely by low density residential housing.

What’s notable about this place? 1) Arnold’s chicken, 2) storey after storey of clothing shops, 3) one of the oldest surviving malls in the country having been around since 1981, 4) most amazingly has apparently ZERO sleaze despite being both very close to geylang and a crummy old mall that usually hides sleazy massage spots in the upper floors’ nooks and crannies.

City Plaza was the first mall I visited in Singapore as my wife’s family lived next to it. 20 years ago it was long in the tooth and while the years have been numerous this old school mall still had an assortment of factory seconds, off brands and miscellaneous stuff you cannot find easily (or cheaply) elsewhere. In recent years it looks like contractors have also set up shop here in the first level. Anyways if there is something you need, then City Plaza has it.

It is still run down, cheesy and dated… and I love it more than the 3 objective stars suggest.

Pathetic…. don’t go there unless your intention is to buy clothing. Majorities are fashion stores. There is only one small and miserable coffee corner right at the top level. There are less than 20 tables but mostly filled with filthy crockery and utensils… no one tidy the tables and place. There were barely 30 customers within the building and rest of the stores are selling stuffs that are above average and not worth the value… don’t go unless you have a purpose…

Quite an old place. What’s left here is mostly female clothing shops and clothes distributors. The food court on the top floor apparently has a popular handmade noodle stall with it’s popular fiery hot chilli.

  151. Avatar photo

If you are talking abut food, they have Arnold’s chicken there. There is also a really good handmade noodle (ban mian) stall at their level 5 food court. The rest of the levels are like a clothing heaven for ladies. They have a very wide range of clothing at cheap and reasonable price.

You can tell its business is struggling with new buulding emerging around it and the building lack of a modern touch. Youngsters will tend not to come n visit, only those who are familiar with these places previously will. Shops are all old fashioned, not as fancy as those you see and expect from new shopping malls like ‘vivo’ or ‘NEX’.
But…… it has a very tasty fried chicken shop called Arnolds. I never really fail to stop by and have cholestrol boost everytime i went there. Check it out guys..
