Chui Xiang Kitchen never disappoints. Their staff are friendly and their lobster porridge is to die for. A pot of porridge is enough but their other dishes are great too that my friends and I always end up ordering more and overfilling our bellies with great food.

Cold plate was very generous in portion . 东坡肉 was ok flavour is there tender and nice. The 麦片下 was dry and blend shouldn’t order the one without shell. 菜包鸡 was acceptable but I feel the chicken inside was lack of flavour and abit bland have to go with the sauce to taste . I love the 2 wok fried vegetable .

Good airconditioned zi char place. We had the set for 10. It included the lobster porridge in claypot with the lobster served separately (a very tasty and yummy one), cabbage chicken in claypot, steam grouper Hong Kong style, scallops with broccoli, tofu with enoki mushrooms and puay ling vegetables, smoked duck with jellyfish, braised abalone with mushrooms and sea cucumber, and orh ni for dessert. I didn’t eat the abalone dish as it came out just before the dessert and I was way too full for it. Should have served the dish earlier. My 2 favourites were the lobster porridge and the tofu dish. Price was reasonable, service was great. Very attentive service staff. The place was clean but could have been more comfortable if the air-con was functioning properly.

Ordered cabbage wrapped chicken, marmite pork, French bean with minced meat and pineapple fried rice, for delivery.

The cabbage wrapped chicken is unique and hidden with some chestnuts, wolf berries, etc.
Long cooking made the cabbage soft and disintegrated with a tinge of sour taste.
Overall not bad but the chicken is a little bland.

Marmite pork is disappointing. Marmite taste and flavour is not there.
Maybe due to long delivery time, the pork is soggy but this should not affect the marmite taste though.

Pineapple fried rice is okayish but bland.

Maybe it will taste better and yummier if dine in.

    Ordered the steamboat – $35.
Fish is extremely fresh, soup is slightly bland but gets sweeter as it simmers with the vegetables. Has yam, tofu, cabbage in the soup as well.

Beef hor fun is great, been here 3 times already and ordered each time. Quality of the dish may vary, not as nice when it’s crowded but it’s very good when it’s less crowded.

The lobster porridge is a dish not to be missed. The lobsters are small (approx 300 grams costing $27 per piece), but blends perfectly with the stock .

Another must try is the marmite pork ribs, it’s just fabulous.

Try the white pepper crab is you take spicy food.

Prices are very reasonable and without GST charge.

The service was horrible, No wonder the place was empty. Be prepared to be ripped off $2 for a tiny plate of raw cabbage and carrots which you did not order. They will later tell you they have to charge you for it even if you did not touch it. They advertise as no GST (which is non existent for tse char place anyway) and later bill you for service charge which is pure bullshit. The spinach with eggs tasted 3/10 at best. Totally unhappy experience at this place. Pls eat next door. I have dined at every single restaurant in that row at Casuarina except for this. My mistake to have tried cui xiang today. Pls do not walk in my footsteps.

Very good quality zi char food at relatively decent prices. Read the reviews on this place earlier and ordered the pumpkin prawn, salted egg yolk sotong, Marmite pork ribs, smoked duck with jelly fish, and cabbage wrapped chicken in claypot. Really loved the first 4 dishes as they were executed very well! The cabbage chicken was interesting but too soft and drenched in gravy for my liking. Chicken was also a bit dry on the inside. Service was friendly and prompt. Got nice drinks like lemongrass drink and water chestnut which was refreshing. Parking can be a killer here so opt to take public transport or Grab if possible.

It is difficult to get it done just right all round in a tze char place generally. There will be some nice dishes and some mediocre ones. The dishes with prawns were quite memorable because they were fresh and crunchy and sizable making it super enjoyable (we had it in cooked with spinach and in an egg omelette). On the other hand, we had the cabbage wrapped chicken and although the gravy was good, the chicken was pretty dry. All in all in was a enjoyable meal there helped by the air-con. However, it was not life-changing good. Because it is out of the way, I do not think there is a need to specifically travel there just for restaurant plus parking is a pain the ass as the streets are narrow, lots are limited. Public transport does cover the location but that usually involves multiple changes of buses unless you stay nearby. Will not be back but if I just so happen to be in the vicinity this can be a consideration.

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this meal – the salted egg crab became the best crab I have tasted (replacing the butter crab from Melben), and I expected the lobster porridge to be bland or full of MSG, but instead got hit by this umami bomb of seafood sweetness. Crab – plump and sweet, with a sauce chock full of salted egg and surprisingly light. Lobster porridge – the star is the stock – seafood sweetness that is just the right balance of sweetness, saltiness and umami – drank two bowls and no MSG reaction at all. I will definitely be back for this gem tucked in the middle of nowhere

Update: went back on a Monday and the crab was still good (a little less salted egg taste), and the lobster porridge broth was so dilute – tastes like corn more than lobster…and the lobster was slightly overcooked. The most disappointing dish was the hk steamed grouper – $50 but it was frozen dry overcooked fish.

I decreased this rating to three stars due to the hit and miss of the dishes, and the inconsistency.

We had two types of hor fun. The beef hor fun was excellent and very generous portion for its price. The seafood version was also full of ‘wok hei’ with generous ingredients like it’s beef counterpart but taste wise a tad bland, perhaps affected by the strong black sauce flavour from the beef hor fun.

Truth be told, it’s just another tse char place around the area. Although there’s a fancy story behind the place, and many people celebrating occasions at this restaurant, it’s really just an above average tse char restaurant. Menu is extensive, and they carry good pricey expensive dishes, worthy of big birthday celebrations. If you’re looking for simple cooked rice and noodle dishes, they also have it here. Personally quite like the beef hor fun and the dry beef hor fun.

It’s closest to home cooked food that you can find. There is no msg in the food and the taste is genuine. Had their signature lobster porridge. The lobsters are very fresh and the size is around 300gm each so the piece of meat is quite decent. The 3 eggs vege dish is very good and so is stir fried red garouper filler meat. The tofu is really smooth and you can actually taste the bean. Price is very reasonable.

Food is decent especially the lobster porridge. However, the toilet is a big turn-off. Old and dirty which affects the customers’ appetite to eat. Please do something about it.

Second visit. Food is nice and the less salty/oil makes the dishes we ordered seems more healthy. The fish maw soup comes full of fish maw and other ingredients. The fried baby squids are crispy. The chicken wrapped in cabbage is good.

Very yummy, reasonable prices. Try the salt / pepper fried squid. Light and tasty and squid was tender. The homemade tofu with enoki mushroom was also a gem.

We came early for dinner (about 545pm) and food was served within 10 mins – very fast!

The area was located near Old Upper Thomson road, where there were open carparks for parking. Convenience was of concern when we reached there. Service staff were friendly and nice, as we made our reservations through phone. We ordered the 6 persons value set meal together with an extra fried rice for our kids. Food taste were surprisingly tasty and the portion were huge!. That was a plus point given our first time patronizing the stall. Price wise was a bit on the high side with Service charge and GST imposed, hence a 4 star review for the restaurant. Good to revisit again for the tasty food served.

Not your typical zi char restaurant. In addition to the regular dishes, they do a good amount of fresh seafood and the extra ordinary lobster porridge. The deep fried soon hock fish was excellent as well as the salted egg sauce crab. White bee hoon was also very good. Parking in the area may be a bit challenging but well worth a visit.

Food quality has remained consistent over the years. Cabbage chicken is a must try item. Best of all, prices are affordable.

The first time my family patron this restaurant was at Commonwealth Ave. Though the atmosphere was not as good as some places at that time, this was more than compensated by the reasonable price and nice food.

Most dishes are good, to name a few:
Marmite Pork Ribs, Braised ‘Dong Po’ Pork, Fish Maw Thick Soup, Cereal Prawn, Salad Fried Prawn, Homemade Toufu with Enoki Mushrooms, Prawn Paste Chicken, etc.

The current location is not as spacious as at Commonwealth and you may need to book especially on weekends. We have and will continue to go to this kitchen at their updated location which is at 126 Casuarina Rd, Singapore 579514

I have to say the food is good. All the dishes we ordered was delicious.

Only problem is that the owner is petty – you have to pay $0.50 per plastic box to pack if you can’t finish the food!
This is the first time I have had to pay. Noting that our lunch bill came up to a $450 for 7 pax it is really unreasonable.

She lost me as a customer.
