A budget-friendly hotel in Singapore. Very strategic location, right in front of the famous Potato Head Bar, walking distance to Outram Park MRT Station and Singapore’s Chinatown area. Early check-in was smooth. Although we arrived before the check-in time, we were allowed to put our luggage first. Staff was friendly and helpful.

The room type we booked (M – no window) was very narrow, especially the bathroom. But it was alright for us because the room has good amenities that we needed the most, such as comfy bed, air conditioner, TV, hair dryer, hot water, towels and private bathroom. Clean and well-maintained room with a favorable price.

It is a small hotel with even smaller rooms but for few nights – if you don’t plan to spend time in the room and just sleep – it is not bad for the price in expensive SG city. Right in the heart with great eateries around, in middle of China Town, nearby mrt’s! They could have done so much better if they really clean it well! It is very obvious that no one cares, which is a shame and that’s why the bad reviews apply. I would probably opt for somewhere else – more clean… Don’t get me wrong, room has clean bed sheets and pillows but that’s all. Sadly! It could have been a beautiful boutique hotel.

Great location at the heart of chinatown, near the metro station and near an Hindu temple. However the room was really small and there was no effort regarding the maintenance of the space. Everything was clean but the facilities were not in good conditions in general.

This is a well priced and fantastically located Hotel. The room was airy and clean and the balcony was there to soak up the sun. Having said that, I would probably not go back for three reasons: 1. There was absolutely nowhere to hang …

Very dusty room, sparsely furnished. TV does not have local channels and only 1 satellite movie channel which is blurry and shuts off every few seconds by itself. Onli 1 counter receptionist who will reply that she can’t leave the counter and asked you to find the only housekeeping uncle yourself to settle the TV issue. The only housekeeping guy (doubling up as the maintenance guy) then came jus to inform you that every TV in every room is like that and he will inform front desk.

While it’s a new hotel and still under renovations, the staff are very friendly and very helpful. It’s locatee in a cozy little corner with lots of eateries around, little water holes to enjoy a drink at the pub or even karaoke.

Ammeneties need a bit more attention, but i guess the management will get to that as they carry out their rennovations. Other than that, it’s a nice little place, the beds are comfy and it’s right in Chinatown.

    Loved it otherwise!

The most ECO choice hotel near chinatown
The price is good and great location
    Staff also nice ^_^
The roeom a bit small but reasonable
    hygiene is good ,
water heater included and Bidet spray

The room location is very good, the price is very cheap compared to this neighborhood, convenient, easy to find things to eat.
Near chinatown complex . Next to potatoes head, easy to travel, looks safe.
The service is at the standard level.
The room is considered okay at this price. There is a water heater, soft bed, no musty smell.

Room not according to the pictures… we got a cramped room with a window to the backyard. In the backyard, the air conditioners could be heard constantly. Shower with toilet was also quite tight and not so presentable…
Cleaning mediocre to good: a pet bottle was still under the bed after cleaning (5cm below it, so it wasn’t cleaned under the bed!) but towels were exchanged and water replaced
At the entrance to the hotel, it is immediately cooled down quite violently and the scent is intense (simply too intense!)
Location: the location was okay for us, since we used public transport and walked a lot. It was maybe an 8-minute walk to the first MR station.
The China Quarter, which is right next door, was definitely very interesting

Great location, one lady behind the counter was quite kind, but the rooms are just straight up filthy. I’m not particularly picky and can accept quite a few shortcomings, but the walls have all kinds of old dirt and stains on them, the ceiling looks moldy, I did not want to touch the bathroom “door”, the towels are literally falling apart, the linens have holes in them… Apart from the somewhat pretty entrance, everything else looks utterly deprecated, old, in dire need of repair or replacement, etc.

The location is the only thing this hotel has going for it. I’d advise actually entering the room first before checking in.

The hotel is very conveniently located near food, shopping and utilities – only a couple of minutes walk to and from, which saves the money you would usually spend on transportation.

However, upon entering the room (which was quite small considering we booked for four people) you could see that it wasn’t very properly renovated, or furnished. The bathroom door did not close fully and they did not supply any body wash or shampoo. The bathroom was also an open one, meaning the shower wasn’t separated from the toilet and sink, so everything would be wet after someone took a shower. Utilities were also very limited. No hair dryer, very few charging ports and the wi-fi was not great.

Service was also.. mediocre at best. The person working at the counter barely gave us any acknowledgement and whenever they did so, it wasn’t the friendliest. But that person did warm up a bit toward the end of our 2-day stay – helped us arrange a taxi ride.

Overall, would not recommend for people wanting a warm stay with friendly service, unless you really want a place that is cheap and near facilities.

You get what you pay for.

I could touch both walls while sitting on the bed, not a window in sight although my agent says they booked me one. No room for my luggage, no where to sit. I book through Agoda on the 30 Aug at around 4pm. And I reached the hotel at 1015pm for my check in. However the receptionist was saying not able to find my booking. And it dragged till 1045pm, and then I able to check into the hotel. Very poor service provided.

Upon checking in, the room is very dirty. There’s were dirt on the floor, hair on the floor. Hair inside the fridge. Dirty fingerprints all over the mirror. Worst of all, the door was faulty.

I able to enter the hotel room without using my access card to tap in to my room. I went out during the midnight and purchase something, and leaving my girlfriend sleeping in the room alone. Without knowing the door is faulty. I only get to know my room is faulty in the next morning. So my question is, what if anything happen to my girlfriend, who is going to take responsibility for this?

Isn’t it housekeeper duties to ensure everything goes well in the hotel? Be it neat and tidy and ensure all the safety precautions are taken care of?

The place was fantastic! It’s super clean, the setting is nice, everything u need (facilities or utilities from bedroom slippers, body lotion, safety box) is all accounted for! The location is great cos its walking distance to Outram MRT which is central, and this is probably the favourite place i’ve stayed in Sg so far! Yes the space for 1 person occupant is a little small, but the space is utilized really well! I highly recommend this place to anyone who prioritizes cleanliness, great amenities and comfort!

Hotel room is clean and so is the toilet. Rooms are extremely small but so are many rooms in Singapore.

The internet of the hotel is weak, I mean very very weak. We tried it on 3 devices, one apple, one Sony and MSI laptop. We would constantly lose internet completely only to reconnect and lose it again.

What a terrible hotel!!! I’ve never seen this hotel in whole my life!!
My reserved room didn’t be cleaned.
So, we had to change other bad conditioned room. There were not any towels and slipers. In addition, many room don’t have refrigerator. Please keep in mind!

This is really the worst place to stay. It’s rain. I would like to pay more money to stay elsewhere. It’s unsanitary, and a neat capsule hotel would be better. The room I booked was not cleaned, so I was assigned another terrible room, but the amenities were insufficient. There were no shampoo, body soap, slippers, towels, and refrigerator.

The worst hotel in my life that ruined my Singapore trip from the first day.
It was a rush trip, so I had no choice but to choose it because there were no hotels left.
I came here because I thought it would be better to stay alone in a capsule hotel than to stay overnight, but it was so bad that I wanted to move right away.
Once in the morning, I was ready to check-in, stored my luggage, and got a room assignment at 3:30.
I used to say 10 quarters bridge for cleaning, but I waited for a while, and then everyone who checked in gave me room assignments– I watched it and went to argue, but just told me to wait. I asked again, but at that time, I didn’t even pretend to hear or look at it. I was alone and couldn’t speak English well, so I just ignored it, but even if I looked for other hotels, there were no capsule hotels because of F1. I waited 45 quarters alone in the lobby. This is a hotel with no concept of cleaning.
For me, the check-in time could be extended after 3 o’clock because of Corona, and I still wonder what he did until after 4 o’clock.
And even if you’re like me, you don’t know if you have to come here, but if you choose even after looking at this article and photos, you’ll regret it.
While washing with a 10-year-old mold shower, I felt like my body was rotting. No air conditioning, no refrigerator, no soundproofing.

Clean and comfortable is the first impression, and the layout of the room is a bit atypical for a hotel. Stayed in a single room on the same day, and the equipment and services can still meet expectations. The bathroom and toilet space is quite small, and the shower space and the toilet seat overlap each other, that is, the water flow completely falls on the toilet when showering. This design is quite unique. If you only stay for one day, it is barely acceptable. If you continue to use the shower, You will feel that the design is not ideal. The room is a concrete cubicle, and the sound insulation is okay. Without the design of a night light, you can only use the TV remote control as a tool for switching lights before going to bed. Good location, within walking distance to subway station.

It’s an old three-story building, but the hostel was on the third floor, but the narrow elevator door didn’t open on the third floor and rattled. complete surprise. So don’t go down the stairs.
It was an early morning flight before returning, so I didn’t sleep, and I used to play on the beach during the day, then put my luggage and use it for half a day to wash and rest. The room is very small but very expensive.
It’s a pity I don’t have a picture of that small room. (You have to be comfortable to go in. You say it’s good and leave a picture.. That’s never going to happen)

Close to potato head, 7/11, in the Chinatown area, convenient to travel, overall accommodation is considered okay. The bed was neither soft nor hard. But get up and shake to the next person, the price is not expensive, the bathroom is a bit narrow Cleanliness is acceptable. If checking out, will continue to travel can leave the bag If you are not very serious about cleanliness, I would recommend it.

LOCATION: Easy access (5-10 minute walk) from bus stops and subway. Lots of restaurants / drinking spots nearby.

ROOM: We booked for a L shaped room with double beds. What we got instead is a regular square-ish room – very cramped. Did not complain at the time as this seems like a trivial issue that my companion and I were willing to overlook.

SERVICE: Staff generally nice / polite but service itself was poor. We asked for our room to be cleaned one day, but room was not cleaned. When we complained, they ended up cleaning the next day as we were already tired and wanted to rest for the night. After that, we did not request for cleaning service anymore, but then they went inside anyway to supposedly clean. Security became an issue as they did not close the door properly. The cleaning staff forgot to remove the latch of the lock so the door was partially open and the room could have been accessed by anyone.

NO HOT SHOWER: I don’t know if they are rationing the hot water, but hot water will only last a minute and then you get blasted with cold or regular temp water.

SANITATION: HORRIBLE. Room and facilities inside were obviously not well cleaned or maintained. Shower head and tube were rusted (but that’s minor compared to our other sanitation complaints). My friend and I saw a random sock under one of the beds so I guess they don’t clean under the bed. There are visible sections of molds growing on the ceiling and bathroom entrance.

AC unit was blowing out small clumps of BLACK dust (not gray, BLACK). It was especially bad on the last day of our stay, when it was literally raining black stuff on the bed. Staff solution was to move us to a one single-sized bed room. My friend and I refused as obviously we will not fit on the sole single sized bed. (I want to note the hilarious remark from the staff about us not having to pay extra for the room and I’m just ???But this is a downgrade???)

My friend and I had to leave the hotel and cancel the rest of our reservation dates. We have essentially been breathing in black dust while we were sleeping during the first 4 days of our stay. No other double bed rooms were available, and at this point we were so fed up with the hotel sanitation anyway that we would not have wanted to stay.

The hotel supposedly refunded us the balance days, but I have yet to confirm when my credit card billing statement arrives.

TLDR: Low expectations as my friend and I are aware this is a budget hotel BUT SANITATION IS HORRIBLE bordering on dangerous health-wise (especially if you have respiratory problems). Good sanitation should be a basic feature of any hotel regardless if it’s a 5star or 3star hotel. The hotel’s SG Clean certification should honestly be revoked. Writing this review to warn other potential guests.

Location is very very very convenient. Very near Chinatown and Outram Park MRT. and also SGH- Walking distance. surrounded by fancy bars and restaurants.. its the place to be. Room mayb a little squeezy.. but who cares.. being a tourist, we only spent 8 hours per day there. Fifi and another staff have awesome personality and are very helpful! Try it out. Especially if budget is a criteria !!

Location – this quaint hotel is 5 mins from Chinatown. On Tek Lim Rd which is littered with plenty of cafes. 5 min walk to Outram Park MRT , and 7 min walk to Chinatown MRT. The rooms are very small , but probably normal by Singapore standards. Cute boutique style decor , clean with a coffee maker, hairdryer , shower gel and bottle of water . Street is very pretty with many old restored buildings. There is a very nice temple nearby in Chinatown that is definitely worth a visit. Clark Quay is two stops from Chinatown MRT. Tickets for MRT are 1.60 Sgd one-way or 3.10 roundtrip. There is a nice mall and shops at Bugis Street Junction which can be reached in 5 min by MRT. Giving hotel 4 stars for location , 3 for interiors – could use some updating. Also, they require a $100 deposit , refundable , but issued 2 weeks after departure. I feel that this should be disclosed at time of booking. Overall – Butternut Tree Hotel is a decent hotel for the price. $$

A nice hotel, suitable for those who want to save money on their stay in Singapore and do not plan to stay almost at all in the hotel except for sleeping. The hotel is in an excellent and beautiful location (close to the metro), with bars nearby.
Pay attention to ask not to be in the room in front of the building with the bar on the roof, because it makes a lot of noise until 2 in the morning.
A significant disadvantage is that the shower is not enclosed, so when you shower, the entire toilet and floor get wet and there is no mop in the room. Advantage – there is a very strong current in the shower.

What a terrible hotel!!! Don’t stay here!!!!How can you throw your guest’s belonging before you let them know or even asking? I send you an email just the next day after i unpacked my bag and reliazed that I left my bag at the hotel. Every hotel always keep it as lost and found at least a week but you throw it before 24 hr. Really? This is unacceptable. How can you guys working in hospitality industry and acting like this? I’m very disapointed this kind of service after recommend the hotel to thai community. This is really worst place to stay.

The only positive thing about this location is the location and the price (if we are talking about the price level of Singapore) – easy to get to, close to the metro, Chinatown around.

Did not like · Stuffy rooms – do not open the window, the sound from the outdoor units of air conditioners (the room inside the building) is crazy. The flow from the air conditioner in the room hits the bed exactly – do not turn it on at night. The hood in the toilet saves, but it turns on with the light.
Well, of course, there is not enough space (after all, this is a budget option in Singapore).

Butternut Tree Hotel is strategically located near key attractions (Sentosa, MBS, Gardens by The Bay, Botanical Gardens), Central Business District(CBD), Singapore General Hospital (SGH). Whether you are a tourist, expatriate, or local for a weekend getaway, this place is highly recommended for an unforgettable stay at this NEWLY REFURBISHED boutique hotel.

This interior design team behind the hotel is truly amazing, a classy and exquisite touch of crystals, warm lightings at the lobby make you feel very much at home. There is also a spacious and comfortable lounge for you to recharge, rejuvenate, have a short meeting discussion, work on projects, etc.

Service and housekeeping standards are excellent. The hotel manager – Natascha – is brilliant. She is extremely polite, helpful, cheerful and her team Marvinda and Nana are commendable and always smiling and whenever we need help, they always go above and beyond their duties. From carrying our luggages before we even stepped into the hotel to smiling and greeting us whenever we enter/depart. There is a personal touch and we can truly feel their warmth and sincerity.

We had a chance to converse with one of the housekeeper- Ah Da. Usually housekeepers are behind the scenes and we do not interact with them often. However, Ah Da is exceptional! Lugging our heavy luggage, Ah Da was very spontaneous, the moment he saw us, he offered his help and carried to the room. He will always greet us with his warm and delightful smile! Not forgetting the room is very clean; there is comfortable bedding with good air-conditioning and hot shower facilities.

Highly recommend Butternut Tree Hotels! If you have a chance: look for the STAR TEAM: Natascha, Marvinda, Nana, Ah Da. They will bound to amaze you and make your stay an unforgettable one!

Great location and great price for my room (~50SGD), however it was obvious there was minimal to no effort to clean my room after the last person had checked out. There was hair all over the floor and on the bed underneath the blanket. The towel they gave me was dirty and the pillow case had holes and lipstick on it. Also, the shower did not have hot water for the duration of my stay even during non-peak showing times such as 8PM.

Front desk also called my room at 7AM for a wake up call (I’m assuming they meant to call another room) but were generally pretty nice, providing me with a new pillow case and towel when I asked.

If all of the other negative reviews weren’t enough, here is a list of reasons why not to stay at this hotel:
    • you will definitely have to wait a few hours to check in to your room and may even have to wait untill late at night
    • your room will be filthy
    • they will also not clean your room during your stay, even if you specifically request it (although they will tell you that someone will clean it, no one will actually come).
    • the wifi works about 20% of the time
    • the personnel at the front desk seriously couldn’t care less
    • it is physically impossible to have a smaller bathroom
    • there is loud music from neighboring cafés every night untill late at night, which you hear very clearly if your room is near the street.

Will definitely be coming back again! The staff assisting us all are very friendly. We booked the wrong room type and its small for us and has no window, decided to talk with the staff and we paid for the room upgrade to L room with window. Our new room was spacious and with window. The hotel decoration are very cute.

Location very great as its located in the middle of Chinatown and Outram MRT which only around 10Mins walk. Many eateries around the area.

Hotel has this disinfect machine at the lobby where they will turn on before we check-in which is very cool as i dont see it in other hotels.
We have our room in level 2 and when we use the lift it suddenly stopped and back to level 1. It turns out that because we have 3 people and lift only can go with max 2 people as the lift is very old as per the staff.
Kindly prepare SGD100 for the deposit upon check-in. We book through Agoda and still need the deposit and its their policy.
Overall, we have a really good experience staying there. The place is cosy, despite located in a busy area at night but it still quiets in the room or maybe because we were facing the back alley.
All staff are friendly, they will say hello to us every time they see us, and we feel very welcomed in this hotel.

Look at the size of the rooms first. Personeel is great and helpful but the size of the room (about 5m2) was much smaller than it looked at the photo. The bathroom was more like a closet with only 0,8 by 1,4 meter. When taking a shower the toilet and sink are soaking wet. Overall: good enough for 1 night.

Hotel in the Chinese quarter excellent location. very well furnished rooms … clean and spacious we found in the bathroom everything you need from the cap Cortona fioc, razors, slippers, body cream and soap. the girl at the reception was very nice when we needed to contact our late driver, she was careful to call him personally and check that he was on time to take us to the airport. Super recommended

The proud receptionist made me and my husband feel most unwelcome. During check-in, my questions were conveniently ignored and my hubby’s request for clarification about Wi-Fi was met with a look of disdain with head shake at my hubby as if he was asking the most stupid question in the world. We both felt so insulted.
Besides, I was bitten by strange insects in the room. In our room, we could hear clearly when people talked along the corridor. The room phone totally had no dial tone (as if we were not expected to call the reception).
We will not return despite the impressive internal decorations.

Sitting near the edge of Chinatown is the Butternut Tree Hotel. Run by a group of lovely ladies, this is a good location for most things. When Outram Station rebuild is finished, this will be a very convenient place to be.

The room (201) is large, it has a good bathroom, head to head beds with a partition. This hotel is riddled with stairs.

Plenty of eateries around, although some are a touch expensive, even by Singapore standards.

Hotel in a good location near Chinatown, close to the metro and less than 30 minutes walk from the skyscrapers. For the rest, very unfriendly receptionist, who pays absolutely no attention to his customers. Except for asking for the $100 deposit. Check-in is listed for 3:00 p.m. but we were told to come back at 4:00 p.m. Return to the hotel at 4:15 p.m., we had to wait almost 5:00 p.m. to get the room. Dusty and tiny room, once the luggage is put down. The bathroom is also in very poor condition, no pressure in the shower because the hose leaks profusely. The glass door is only held by the top hinge, the pegs of the bottom hinge no longer adhere to the wall. We put the next morning at 9am on the door of the room the sign “thank you for cleaning this room”, we came back in the evening, it was still not done. It was necessary to intervene at the reception to have a semblance of cleaning. Maybe not too expensive for Singapore but we understand why.
