My second time there, food is extremely well done and consistent!!
A good balance of Indonesian and Thai food.
My top faves are Tom yum soup, olive fried rice, tahur telur, ayam keluak and prawn cakes or crab cakes. Meat and seafood fresh and juicy.

Absolutely well done. Best olive fried rice I’ve had. Many other places serve it lacking in olive flavour… No umami. But this place does it well.

Thank you team for the lovely experience. Worth the price and will definitely be coming back

This “Thai-Indonesian” restaurant is a gem in the heart of a vibrant Kampong Glam. The first thing that strikes you about this restaurant is the decor. You feel as though you’ve been transported into the early 19th century. The exterior facade is ornate, and the interior is filled with Chinese furniture.

The food is good as the decor, and since we came as a large group, we ordered practically everything on the menu. I loved most of the dishes, in particular:
    – tahu telor
    – beef rendang
    – pandan leaf chicken
    – chili basil chicken

There were others that I thought was average:
    – butter oat prawn (better to try this at a proper seafood resto)
    – pineapple rice (First Thai does this better)

All in all a very satisfying dinner with good company.

Nice ambient and good service. We particularly like the tauhu telur and the sambal terung (brinjals) though the beef rendang was a little dry. The menu is kind of Indon, kind of Thai and kind of Chinese. Personally I’d like a full Indon menu with more Indon choices. Since it’s called Bumbu.

At Bumbu you can eat authentic Indonesian food while being treated nicely. If you want to play it safe, order the squid with the black ink sauce and the green curry chicken.

My favourite part of Bumbu is the environment and all details that are put in place. It is seated in a traditional Singaporean shophouse and it is replete of pictures, paintings and posters all over the place.

If you come here, you would probably will come out satisfied.

Place found by chance during our visit to the neighborhood following the visit to the Sultan’s mosque. Reception: smiling, fast and smiling service, really typical food and if you can’t stand spicy dishes, ask for advice: they are given with a smile. Besides being really typical, the dishes are delicious. Particularity no alcohol.
If I come back I would stay there again.

This restaurant was probably a Peranakan home before. The decor still maintains the unique Peranakan style and vibe. You can walk around and view the decor as exhibits of old Peranakan culture. If you hv the elderly with you, the only issue is the stairs to go to upper floor, else dine on the ground floor.

The food is tasty. Highly recommend the fried garoupa with chilli, tahu telur and chendol. Even kids enjoyed the clear tom yum soup. Price is also reasonable.

The experience was made even sweeter because of the service by Mahathir. He was attentive and ensured we lacked for nothing. Good job!

We order the crispy kangkong, beef rendang and Tahu Telur. All dishes were great and not the most common dishes in mainstream restaurants. I prefer the beef rendang to be softer but my partner find it tender enough. Thai ice tea and avocado blend was nice but the latter serving size was small. Free flow of rice too. Reasonable price with impeccable service. All under 60 bucks for 2 of us. Cant ask for more.

We had the to die for beef rending ( and I don’t eat meat usually!), the mango salad which was delicious and the Gado Gado which was also scrumptious. My 12 and 14 year olds also really enjoyed it.

Although “bumbu” is an indonesian word, this place is more a mix of indonesian, thai and a bit of peranakan. I like the sambal kangkung and tahu telor.

Food is FANTASTIC! We ordered 7 dishes and all were good. Flavours were rich, but not overpowering. All had a nice balance. The fried mee say was light, refreshing and tasty! Ambience was lovely and quiet. The ngoh hiang is a MUST TRY. Staff are friendly but not intrusive. Service is good. Would definitely go again. Best halal peranakan fusion restaurant!

Olive fried rice had a very aromatic wok hei. Fried rice and tahu telur were so good we ordered seconds. The fried egg tofu inside was v tender and absorbed the sauce well. Complements the crispy fried egg.

Fried Kang Kong was special – never had this before but it was really well made. Crunchy but can still feel the texture of the Kang kong even as you chew. Served with chopped prawns and some sprinkles in Thai chili sauce (it’s probably their own special blend but the base was something like Thai chili sauce) love the savoury tangy taste against the crunchyness of the fried Kang kong.

Had Ngoh hiang and green chicken curry as well (not captured) Really yummy.

Worth a trip down even to just get takeaways!

We were a group of 4, having dinner at Bumbu on a Friday night without a reservation. Very delicious food, it was very well seasoned and our dinner included curries, fish dishes, both steamed rice and very good olive-seasoned fried rice. No alcohol was on offer, and the drinks section was generally very limited.

The place is rather small, and the air con inside was set to a very low temperature. We sat outside, there is room for about 10 people, which was much better temperature-wise.

    We would definitely come back!

Good fusion of thai-indonesian food. We had tahu telor which is pleasantly sweet and savory, the eggs is fried to a good crisp. Fish with Thai salad is refreshing and the fish is fresh, with an appropriate tanginess to the taste. Green Curry Chicken is good for local tastes. They offer to refill rice for free. Quietly unassuming halal fusion restaurant that I’ve loved for over a decade. Decor inside is beautifully peranakan and feels like we’re eating at a Peranakan aunty’s house.

There are a few tables on the ground floor and more on the second floor of the shophouse. Would advise to call to reserve a table on the ground floor if with elderly.

Food is awesome, have never been disappointed. Personal Favourites are prawn cakes, tahu telor, olive fried rice, rendang, gula melaka avocado.

What hits you first is the esoteric decor that is reminiscent of the 80’s with Tiffin’s lining the walls and the odd ice kachang shaver in the corner, really brings you back to the good old days, and drives the message home with the amazing food served, a mix of Thai and Indonesian that leaves you craving for more. Recommend try the steamed fish and bean sprouts with dried fish!
