Well, what can I say About Bedok Town, the very place I embraced my coming of age. Bedok Town is part of me, my memory… from hanging out with my schoolmates at the skate park (now occupied by Heartbeat) even though we were nerds who can’t skate to save ourselves, to casual dates with my first impression of true romance.. this place holds a special place in my heart. I still remember the sheer excitement when I was 7 and my mom took me to the library.. the first library I ever visited in my life…

To others it may be just a centralised neighbourhood, a place for groceries, a passing MRT Station… But to me, it will forever be a source of my pleasant flashbacks and truly a big part of my life’s journey.

This morning, I went to Chai Chee NTUC where now more and more things add into the stores. That’s should be the ways, also now they organised the items in orders. Well Done Chai Chee. I gave 5 – – – Golden Stars.

UPDATE: The Hush Puppies outlet is closed permanently. I am eager to see which new business steps in.
One can also recycle batteries and plastics at the recycling points at the basement near NTUC Fairprice.

A place which combines the charms of both older times and modern times.
It has traditional style hawker centres, and also newer ones like Food Loft, along with a food court at Bedok Mall.
Variety of food choices including Subway, Macdonald, Yakun.
Plenty of shopping choices too, ranging from low price Value Dollar shop, house hold, bakeries including Bengwan Solo, fruit sellers and much more.
Ntuc Fairprice, with another one at Bedok Mall. Sheng Siong as well.
It also has a makeshift shop which sells Men’s shirts and ladies tops, run by a Husband and Wife team. One can have a personal touch here since it is not crowded and can talk to the owners.
Bedok Mall has a mix of shops including Levi’s, Body Shop, Innis, Sea Horse, Popular, Best Denki
Overall, a place to just relax with food, for shopping or both.

There is a large variety of food choices available on their menu. But the service spoils the ambience. Went on Sunday 5pm even made reservation but was told they were not open when we reached. Waitress told us they are shorthanded and don’t really attend to u. Portion is quite small for regular size. Ordered mee basok but missing the mee (noodles) just soup was served.

It can be affordable to stay in Sg especially if one :
    1. Eats at the food courts / hawker stalls which serve food like home (Chinese/ Malay / Indian
    2. Travel by public transport or walk

    Safe.
It is safe even to walk in a deserted undercarriage way to cross the road to buy essentials (as encouraged by my daughter and son in law and discovered it is true).

    Healthy.
Health is a priority and I count my blessings to be able to have regular evening walks safely around the blocks and use the readily available exercise machines placed at strategic sections of the grounds.

    Comfort
I don’t feel greasy or uncomfortable after being out and coming home. But I do tend to wash n have a shower and change my clothes because I do believe in masking, washing my hands n doing my part to be a responsible human being.

    Food
I love Cho Chiat Road where many Vietnamese shops are located. I think it is my love for pho. Generally Vietnamese food is gentle and petite. I know we don’t describe food as such but I like the dishes for being so. My SIL (son-in-law) said I would love a trip to Vietnam. Hummm…

    Go green
During the Stone Age, people had not much spare time for recreational activities but once they were able to settle down and became farmers, innovation n creative past-time became available. Sg is an affluent society n education and how-to’s are taught freely. I grew and harvested twice spring onions during my three weeks stay. Almost every satellite communities I ventured into has a corner or stall selling potted plants and garden accessories.

The well known Bedok Central Food Centre has all the comfort foods I seek out all the time, from the fried carrot cake to the nasi lemak and cold dessert, this is food heaven just outside of the sparkling Bedok Mall, then further down the town centre with the hodgepodge of retail shops selling value products like personal care (shampoos & body washes) at much lesser prices than your big pharmacy chains such as the Watsons or Guardians or Unitys, the Bakers Talent bakery which offers interesting range of breads like salted egg yolk polo (咸蛋波罗) buns which we didn’t manage to buy because it was sold out and bubble tea stores like iTea which and Each-A-Cup dot the row of shophouses all competing for us to open our wallets for them.

Bedok Town Centre is conveniently located along New Upper Changi Road, which is accessible from the Pan Island Expressway (PIE) and East Coast Parkway (ECP). It is also near to the MRT station and Bedok Integrated Transport Hub.

The town centre sees plenty of shops that offer a large variety of goods and services to residents and shoppers.

In addition, there are facilities within the vicinity like Bedok Mall, Heartbeat @ Bedok, East Coast-Fengshan Town Council, and food centres. This town centre offers a hive of activities at the eastern part of Singapore.

Bedok Town Centre is also directly serviced by the MRT and Bedok Integrated Transport Hub, making it easy for people to get here fast. It is considered to be a bustling spot with plenty of amenities such as supermarkets, food stalls, barbers, salons, and convenience stores.

There are several residential complexes surrounding Bedok Town Centre, so local residents often just walk here to do their weekly shopping.

You can also walk directly to Bedok Mall, the public library and Bedok Interchange Hawker Centre. Many outdoor restaurants are in Bedok Town Centre, so you can walk around and choose the best al fresco experience.

Bedok Town uhh well. It is different from those days. They have a new Bedok Heartland with Library. Swinning Pool, shopping and other entertainments. One and only Kopitiam, the new Bedok Mall, Restaurants, Residents M.R.T and a Bus Interchange. Ok, we go back to 1980’s to 1990’s. I still remember Bedok had no M.R.T, Bedok Mall and Bedok Heartland. The old Bus Interchange and all the old shop. N.T.U.C. N.T.U.C was there in the year 1980 or 1990’s hope I am right. The name Bedok not BED -OK was name after a Malay drum BEDOK. That is how it had the name. History is wonderful Take time to know the old surrounding of Old Singapore Land make and you will be surprised how time have changed. I like taking my time walking around there and having Ice Cream.

V reasonable prices of veges. much cheaper than supermarkets. Frozen siew mai and Frozen prawns (choose the $8.50 ones) are of good quality. the fact that veges can be bought in loose quantities is a big plus for small families.

Something special here that i dont find in S Siong, NTUC or Giant.

    Bucatini!

Bucatini is a fat spaghetti. i love it because it is fat n so absorbs a lot of sauce. Use a combo of pork mince ball n beef ball, tom yam paste, generous amt of garlic n 1 big red onion, a can of Heinz tomato soup (better quality than the other brand) n throw in 3 bay leaves. Season w some mushroom or chicken powder n pepper. When serving, top up with Parmesan cheese. Mama mia! SUUUPPERR!

Very good break up recipe. It tasted so good my boyfriend broke up with me after I served him this.

i am v happy he will remember my Bucatini even if he forgets me.

I went to the counter, and stood there for a while before the China lady asked for my order.

I ordered seafood soup with thick bee hoon. she seemed lost, and ask the other preparation staff if she can accept “seafood soup with thick bee hoon”. the preparation staff seems lost too.

A lady who just reported for work came up to the cashier and took my order.

I asked “Do you add milk into the soup?” and she asked me back “Do you want milk in your soup?” so I confirmed “Yes, please.”

After a while, I saw a bowl of noodle sitting at the counter, and asked if it’s mine.

Staff seemed annoyed and told me yes!

I commented “Oh, I requested for milk.”
The cook stared at the cashier and said “You didn’t tell me?”

Cashier confirmed that I did inform her that I wanted milk in my soup.

    And there was a silence….

I stood there for a good 10 minutes..

Then I asked “Sorry, is it possible to add the milk now? or is it too late?”

Cook just raised her voice and shouted at me “I’m going to add for you! cant you see?” when all I saw was her cooking another customer’s order of noodle.

Well… nobody informed me if they are adding it for me, or are they expecting me to just accept it that way.

Overall, experience was super bad. I got shouted at for their miscommunication, silence of uncertainty, and food was not fantastic.

Noodle was not well cooked, a little hard, and ingredients was too little for the price.

    As shown on photo.
Can’t see much floating in the bowl of soup basically even though I added Thick Bee Hoon…

Otherwise, I probably won’t see anything in the sea of soup.

Prawns were mushy, definitely not in the contexts of any sign of freshness.

2 prawns, 2 crab sticks, 2 slices of fish, and probably 3 leaves of vegetables, with my added miserable portion of thick bee hoon… $7.80.

    Good neighbor’s amenities!
    Spacing
May consider to build shelter between the shop’s houses
In case raining or strong sun(cause along the shop houses, the walking path is mostly up n down
Not convenient for old folks n small boys
N bad for their knees !

Strategic location – One Stop Centre. A Downtown Shopping Centre brought to the neighbourhood. And “HeartBeat” or a Community Hub is the best development of amenities for any Heartland. Thank you to the Government.

From personal experiences, it takes about 3 months on a 3 times a week basis to know almost all the shops and food outlets (have tried about 60% of them). A real local exploration of a housing estate hub.
My special needs son loves this place as he feels safe and comfortable here. That’s the key reason I come here often.

Very easy to move about the town centre. Bedok Heartbeat is right in the middle of the town centre. Two big supermarkets, lots of sundries shops, hairdressing salons, pet shops, bargain stores, bakeries all tightly packed in this compact place. Plentiful good local food available at reasonable prices. A favourite haunt with many from other estates.

It’s always crowded but easily accessible compared to the outlet at Bedok mall basement. Use the KFC app for order placement and just pickup only to avoid the Q. KFC had reformulated their recipe, back to the finger linger good traditional taste. Chicken is juicy and tasty.
