    Bedok Public Library at Heartbeat@Bedok

Bedok Public Library occupies the second and third levels at Heartbeat  @  Bedok, and is home to a collection of almost 200,000 books, over 300 magazine titles and 13,000 audio-visual items.

The library’s location gives it a unique opportunity to work with other agencies housed in Heartbeat @ Bedok. After all, the integrated complex was built with the aim to deliver services to nearby residents. Amazing =)

    My rating: 4/5
What I like in libraries: Books that are available that I originally have on my online To-Be-Read (TBR). Spacious environments. Multiple book genres.

To find the Bedok library, you’ll have to go to the third level to see it. When I first entered the library there was a certain smell to it, like it was brand new. This was my first time coming to the Bedok library so I did want to like it, but the very first minutes of walking through the library, I was unsure if I was going to like it. At first (I went to the right after entering) I saw many seats and I thought that was good because if you found a book and a good book then you could sit down for a while and not have to worry about other people not getting seats either. There were magazines, comics, and manga/anime. I was a bit curious to see the manga/anime because I haven’t seen that in libraries before (even though I don’t read manga/anime) . They had a good section/selection for people that liked manga/anime. Once I had kept walking after going to the right, I started seeing more people and seats. I also saw a section for adult fiction, which is one of my favorites, so I was happy to see it. They also had a good 4+ shelves of Adult Fiction (which I was excited to check out.) Overall, I was happily surprised to see that I rather enjoyed the library and would recommend the library to people that like there to be more space to sit, manga/anime, and Adult Fiction books.

Great space and a variety of books. Most of the library staff we encountered were helpful and polite but one lady in blue really left a bad impression to a group of us. Understand that strict measures have to be taken at this time, but is it necessary to be rude and authoritative at the children’s section? So many ways to enforce the rulings, but being demanding is not one of them. Please try a little kindness instead. Thank you

Very pretty but it’s more like a community centre with books.
Good place to sit and charge your phone, and is very clean but when it comes to being a library where I could search for books that I want, I couldn’t find a station. The searching computers only seem to be on the 1st floor, not the second.
I also searched for 5+ authors and couldn’t find any of their books, and these books are classics

Like what everyone else is saying, this library scores a 10/10 in terms of outlook and resources. However, practicality wise, it deserves a 2/10 as it does not have POWER POINTS for library users to use on each table. The powerpoints are all bundled on a wall known as its ‘CHARGING PORTS’ which does not make sense for library users who need the power supply for their laptop at the study table.

I wish there could be a revamp in this aspect as it is unfortunate that such a marvellous library is a turn off for users who require the power points at the study table. NLB @ Bugis and Jurong Regional Library are prime examples for Bedok LIbrary to replicate.

The entrance at level 2 is being closed. This is understandable under the covid situation. However, there is no clear notice at the lift lobby at levels B1 and 1. Many new visitors follow the road signs and go to level two and are instructed to go level 3. A lot of their time will not be wasted if they are told to go level 3 directly.

Design focused on aesthetic over functionality. There is also no socket for charging of laptops and seating spaces are limited.

Went there to search for a running book and was extremely impressed by how awesome the place is. It is very clean and well organised, and the librarians are all very polite and hardworking. I manage to find my books easily due to how structured the library is. Kudos! …

One of the best libraries around. It’s really comfortable and the design of the place gives it a really nice ambiance. It’s pretty popular, so even though there are plenty of seats, you may need to hunt around for a free spot.

There’s generally not a wide variety of books in this library. Seats are limited too. Discipline need to improve. Casual people were seen sleeping on chairs depriving the true readers. Some were heard speaking loudly.

Nice for a public library but not enough computers and place to sit. Some people placed their belongings on the seats or tables and then disappeared for hours.

BEAUTIFUL library! New and very wide open aisles (for Singapore public areas). Lots of books! Hint: if you cannot find your book in the regular shelves, look in the New Arrivals shelves; it may be there (despite being an older book). Staff are very helpful. It’s quiet. No English music CDs here, but have lots of Chinese music CDs.

Top notch services from a governmental resource, spacious and comfortable for sitting down and have a good read. Only thing of course is to expect crowds during weekend and a bit more noises due to kids around.

There used to be charging ports on some tables but it seems that have removed the charging port for tables. The only place you can charge your devices is a charging station (which is not locked). However, there are about 3 security camera facing the charging station which will probably provide more assurance …

The library has three levels, and it has a huge collection of reading materials and other e-resources. It is also a good place to study as there is a reading room with power sources for you to charge your laptops. There is also a water cooler beside the toilet. On weekends, you might not be able to find seats in the day. Staff is also very helpful if you require any assistance.

Currently visits to the library are limited to 30 mins and you will need to use SafeEntry to check in. Temperature checks at entry as well of course. Visits only for returning or borrowing of books.
