At 5 dollars ( without liquor ), the owner is very generous with the portion of fish heads served. The fish parts are tender and fresh. Moreover, the fish is not deep fried but lightly fried to retain the freshness. The fish head soup alone earns the 4-star rating.

I like their XO fish soup! Nice thick pieces of fish mmmm yum! Don’t bother ordering this if you absolutely cannot stand milky fish soups. That said, their soup is different from usual milky fish soups (the milk taste is less strong). Thick beehoon is really the only noodle that goes with their soup. They also have a good San lor hor fun for those who don’t like soups.

Came by for lunch before 12pm.ordered San Lao Hor Fun or sliced fish flat noodles with beans sprouts for $6. Based on memory, this used to be up there with one of the best. The noodles came out fine smooth with a little wok hei, but the sauce is on the bland side. Fish slices were not uniformed, some thicker so slice thinly. On some pieces, the fish is tough. Well they are pretty generous on the beans sprouts.

Fish soup has been one of my go-to food when I am sick or down. And I have tried it in a couple of places. The Bao Gong XO Fish is something I tried here at Clementi. Its is an open hawker stall where the servers will serve you after you order your food. Its quite a crowded place but the food is not too bad. I will not say that it is my favourite nor it is not the worst either. Its just so-so. Anyways, besides the food, the servers were very friendly and that is a big deal for me when it comes to eating out. When food is served with a smile, it becomes a bit tastier too.

Still better than typical fish bee hoon soup elsewhere. However Standard had dropped compared to 10years ago.

The preparation method for fish and soup is key to the goodness. Soup does not reek of rice flour smell and taste from the bee hoon, typically due to boiling the noodle with the soup base.

First time trying their Zhi Char dishes and was totally disappointed with their service and attitude. We ordered salted egg pork ribs but didn’t get any taste nor flavour in the dry pork ribs except oily buttery taste. When we feedback to the staff, we were told that they used salted egg and butter to cook, that’s why the buttery taste…final answer was “it’s like that” and she walked away….We took two pieces and cannot “swallow” the rest and left. (See picture attached of the leftover)

A friend recommended this place for the supposedly famous fish head beehoon and fish slice beehoon/soup, “sam lao” hor fun and other cizhar dishes like prawn paste chicken (har chiong gai) etc.

I found the fish soup a bit too fishy for my liking and the strong wine taste/smell just cannot “cover up” that fishy smell. The fish meat were not sliced thickly and was a tad fishy.

Sam lao hor fun lacked wok hei and the sauce was not completely absorbed and hence the hor fun was kind of “swimming” in it.

Despite the above, the place usually attract a crowd, especially friday and saturday dinner crowd.
