To be exact, there is 2 coffee house, side by side. Look like a stiff competition. But it’s nothing like that. Both have regulars. Every individual have different taste bud. So, it’s open options. A healthy competition I would say.

This place is the ‘epicentre’ of the HDB Heartland along Bukit Panjang Road. There are tons of shops here selling everything from clothes to household products. There are two banks located here (OCBC and POSB).

As for food, there are four kopitiams and Bukit Panjang Hawker Centre in the vicinity. Lots of bakeries too.

Finally, there are a number of hair salons (including two Malay barbers).

There are 2 coffee shops in blk 257. This review is for the one also known as Al Medina coffee shop.
Besides Al Medina, which serves good Murtabak and Mee Goreng, the coffee shop also has a great Malay stall and excellent Zichar stall. I really enjoy the Mee Rebus and Mee Soto from the Malay stall. The Zichar has very good noodles, the hor fun has good wok hei. Their venison hot plate and prawn paste chicken are great too!
Recently, the popular duck rice/noodles store from a nearby coffee shop relocated here, which added a whole lot more to the hustle and bustle of the coffee shop.

There are a few new stalls now with the Muslim stall doing quite well with a fairly good selection for breakfast and lunch. The Indian Muslim stall sells roti prata and brayani and other side dishes. Chicken rice stall is basic and lacks quality though fairly cheap. Vegetarian stall has variety and crowded during lunar 1st and 15th days. There is a new Chinese stall selling noodles and rice with soup including tom yam at $6 which might be a little pricey for location.

    The place was relatively busy
However, the experience at VENUS could have been better. Some of the customers did not know that they could select their purchases and then queue to make payment. I suggested that they could put a signage or something to help customers. The cashier could have been more polite even if they had bad experiences the day before. We do not have to listen to their grumbles. We are not there for freebies!

There’s a rojak stall here facing the carpark. The rojak was well seasoned and well mixed. Rojak was tasty & owner was also friendly.

2 coffee shops next to each other… this stall 好友记is supposed to serve charcoal grilled meat but cannot taste the smokey barbecue flavour. Duck meat is cold and a bit tough. The sauce is too sweet. the soup is at least warm and taste good.

The malay stall serves a whole lot of local malay dishes eg. lontong, mee rebus, mee siam, mee soto, nasi sambal goreng, nasi lemak, etc. ALL the food are delicious!!! They open early, i think 7am (or earlier) but the food finish quite fast (sometimes before 12 noon). Closed on every Monday. There will always be a long queue (shows how good the food is). If you are around Bt Panjang (Bangkit Road area) in the morning, go and try out the food.
