A bakery that make cakes, swiss rolls, pies, sausage rolls, curry puff pastries the traditional way with traditional taste. Highly recommended items include samosa, pies, curry puff, sausage rolls, swiss rolls in various flavours, traditional fruit cakes light and rich, tradional cakes that were very popular wedding gifts during 70s and 80s. Piping hot pastries taste good when bought as well as when reheated after buying home. For example, samosa has crispy outer skin and flavourful fillings, curry puff has flaky skin with tasty centre … and the list goes on. To top it off, all items comes at reasonable prices.

Old school bakery, but I love it! They have my favourite custard bun. They have a assortment of cakes. I bought a small beef pie, tuna puff and finished it at one go! The standard is average but it’s fresh! And easily comfort food for me. I will go back and get their Samosa!

What can i say. Best custard I’ve had from a seemingly normal bakery. The puffs are excellent too! Asked if i could buy a whole tub of their handmade custard. Too bad the uncle did not allow that haha. Nonetheless excellent pastries and delicious custards!

Bakery was nice and past experiences were very pleasant until came across a middle-aged aunty manning the cashier this afternoon. Perceived as very rude and seemingly only has eyes for $$$. An old customer asked her for help to take 3 pies… She replied, “I am very busy (btw no one at the cashier at that moment) , take yourself. I need to collect MONEY.” But a nice uncle saved the situation by offering the old customer his help (Thank you, uncle!) Ah well, the bakery is good overall so will continue to patronise. Hope the cashier aunty can have more empathy esp towards elderly.

An old school bakery that has been in business for almost 60 years. Their custard puffs taste like childhood to me. Used to have them for $0.50 each more than 30 years ago. They cost $1.50 each now but tastes the same. The custard is not too sweet but creamy and smooth. The puff is so soft and rich with buttery taste. I cannot find custard puffs like this locally apart from this bakery.

I really want to like this place; it’s cute on the outside and inside and run by a nice family. But I don’t like the taste of anything I’ve tried. It may be all freshly made, but it really tastes like nothing special. Tiong Bahru Galicier Pastry has all of the old-school charm but everything tastes delicious; the Balmoral Bakery is high on charm only.

Tried the egg tarts and the cheesecake.

Egg tart was alright, though lesser custard than most of the other traditional shops.

Cheesecake… the cake itself was soft and fluffy but goodness, the base felt like I was eating pure sugar. Couldn’t taste the butter at all and it was so sweet it completely overpowered the cake portion.

I’ve been coming back here for a long time to buy their custard and cream puffs. Another favourite of mine here is the Rum Cake (chiller section), which is such an old fashioned sliced cake that you can hardly find anymore. My aunt likes the sponge cake baked in a paper napkin. They do wonderful 3D cakes, but I haven’t seen any in the last couple of years. The shop used to be run by an elderly couple and a sister, and am glad they have found an apprentice to take over baking the favourites. I was afraid they would retire without a successor. The custard puffs are best eaten on the same day; they don’t keep well.

Established in 1965, this old school bakery is easy to spot along Sunset Way : it’s the corner with the red bricks.
It’s the only shop I know of, right now, that still sells cream horn, creme puff, and the old style chocolate eclair.
They also sell savoury pastry like curry puff and pie (available in chicken or beef). Of course, they also have buns (a decent variety, but I didn’t see any of the “new” gimmicky flavours). And lastly, they also have cakes, sliced or whole.
The savoury puff and pie may be on the smaller side, but it’s packed with ingredients, making them a yummy and satisfying snack.
If you have a hankering for the old style pastries, especially the cream horn and eclair, drop by and grab some. From what I know, they open from 9am to 7pm, and you should go earlier in case the items you want are sold out.

The Apple pie was unfortunately the worst I’ve had. Very little Apple, and pastry was not tasty or crispy. Disappointing as I really want to commend long time bakeries but the Apple pie at a nearby shop was much better. Famed curry pie and banana cake was ok only. Enjoyed the pineapple tart though.

The quality of the curry puffs seem to have dipped during this COVID period. The pastry is cakey and dull, and the filling which looks reduced, barely has any chicken morsels now. What a pity. They had such good curry puffs. Balmoral, I hope you bring them back.

This old school cake and pastry bakery seems to stand still in time. Nothing has change all these years, from their deco to the quality of their offering. One of the very few bakeries left in Singapore that specialize in traditional baked goods dating back to the colonial times. I highly recommend the sponge cake with a rum cake interior(you can identify it from the top that is dotted with nut sprinkles), as well as the cheesecake and egg tart(the crust is a lot thicker than your usual egg tart).

Not so much a fan of the puffs though, which are supposed to be their signature. I guess it’s a matter of personal preference.

Sadly, this old school bakery truly disappoints.

You will be better off at Galicier Tiong Bahru (before it closes). The pastries are hard and yes the stuffing are not generous as some have already remarked. However, some items are still nicely presented but the taste is really nothing to rave about.

An authentic bakery that serves freshly homemade sweets. It was started in 1965 and till now they have made unique desserts with various taste and shapes.
They have modern desserts such as cupcake, donuts and muffins as well as more traditional desserts such as Tarts, pastries and bread. My personal recommendation is the beetroot cake as it’s soft and fluffy, the coconut tart as it is flavourful and unique. The crust of the tart is beautifully stuck together. Last per not least, the cream horn brings back various memories from generations and beyond.
Honestly, they have a divine mixture of tradition and modernity all in this shop. I definitely recommend this place for you.

Pretty average place. Custard horn didn’t taste good/fresh. Taste of the butter and marble cake was so-so. Place looks a little run down. This place does not accept cashless payment. Cash payment only. Some of the pastries didn’t taste fresh.

The store is small but the products sold are very diverse. The proprietress is very enthusiastic and will chat with you a few words.
The egg tart has a relatively solid taste, and there is no special surprise.

    店面不大但是販售的產品非常多樣。老闆娘很熱情,會跟你聊幾句。
    蛋塔是比較紮實的口感,沒有特別驚奇的感覺。

Old school bakery serving old style cakes and pies that are rarely seen in this island anymore. The place itself is not fancy, the cakes not the prettiest unlike those modern bakeries these days. It looks more like home made bakes: honest, traditional with a taste of the old days.

The rum ball, custard puff and cream puff were great. Could taste a bit of rum in the rum ball, and the custard was not too sweet. From an earlier visit, the pies were just ok.

The journey to the Bakery itself was actually really interesting. I walked all the way from Clementi MRT and passed by many Hidden Coffee-Shops and Eateries which no doubt I will be visiting next time to explore! Along the way there was even a Beautiful Riverside Park as you can seen in my photo.

The Bakery itself is located in a Mini Town-Centre which itself has even more Eateries and even Alfresco Pubs. The Journey was quite refreshing and amazing to see a different and quieter side of Clementi compared to the bustling and busy MRT Town Central that most of us are familiar with.

As for the Bakery itself, it seems to have started since 1965. Run by a very friendly Auntie, the interior of the Bakery is Air-Conditioned which is a little unusual for an Old-School Bakery. One thing to note is that they accept Cash Only.

There were a few items I bought and here are their mini reviews:

    1) Curry Samosa
I believe this is one of their famous menu-item. It has intricate layers and a very crispy bite-feel. Curry was smooth and mild and very Potatoey. Highly recommend to eat it Hot and Fresh.

    2) Walnut Carrot Cake
Another popular item on their menu, This one was Bouncy with little chucks of Walnut pieces playfully scattered around. One thing was that I thought the texture was too Dry imo.

For the below 3 items, I made the mistake of eating them on the spot. Personally I feel they should be brought home to be refrigerated first as they would taste even better when cold.

    3) Old-School Buttercream Cake
The Coffee Cream on this one is Thick, Creamy, Smooth and Soft. Taste of the cake itself is Melt in your Mouth.

    4) Cream Puff
This one has a lovely outer pastry layer that has a slight crunch with a slight sweetness. Buttercream serving was generous and not overly sweet.

    5) Chocolate Eclair
The taste of this Pastry Dough felt like the same one they used for their Cream Puffs. Bursting with mildly sweet Coffee Cream (Same Cream on the Buttercream Cake) and a nice delicious outer Chocolate Covering.

    Conclusion Summary:
This Bakery definitely lives up to expectations. I now understand why it is so highly recommended. Two Thumbs Up indeed!

An old school bakery to cater to the nostalgia of the older generation, yet lacks any real flavor in the crust of the tarts. I got both the coconut and egg tarts and they were both a huge disappointment (might have been the worst egg tarts I have ever eaten ️). The only plus side (?) is that they look not bad, which was super deceiving.

Skip all the pies and just go for their tarts. Egg, custard, pineapple and coconut. Their pandan kaya cake is good too despite the artificial green. Banana / carrot cake was soft and moist though lacking flavour, it was filled with walnuts. The walnut pastry was nice too, with two flaky pastry sandwiching a small slice of banana walnut and butter cream (crunchy, flaky, sweet and salty at the same time)

Don’t be fooled by the size of their apple pie, it’s literally 99% crust and 1% jam (not even one cube of apple). Same goes for their char siew pastry despite being already mini size.

Samosa filling had a weird sour taste, curry chicken puff no curry taste, chicken pie had mostly mashed potato and only one small cube of chicken meat.

Bought banana cake, marble cakes etc. custard puff taste as expected. banana cake was below average. The texture was a bit chewy and slightly odd. What a pity.
