Paris, the light city, is the capital of France, and is on of the most glamorous cities in Europe. It is located in Northern France on the banks of the River Seine. Paris’ position on the river is a most favourable on end serves to enhance the prosperity of the city. Paris is the business, historic, intellectual, diplomatic, religious, educational, artistic, and tourist centre of France. Paris is also one of the world’s most visited places!

History of Paris.
Paris is more than 2000 years old. In ancient times, Paris was known as Lutetia. It was between 250 and 200 BC when Gauls of the Parisii tribe founded a fishing village on an island in the river, presently known as Ile de la Cite, the center of present day Paris. After the revolt in 52 BC, Paris came under Roman rule, and during this time it was thoroughly romanized. In 1355-58, it was the first time when the people of Paris declared themselves independent. It played a major role during the revolutions of 1830 and 1848. During World War I the Germans were prevented from reaching Paris, but during World War II they occupied the city. Once again in 1968, during the student revolution Paris was the scene of violence.

Geography and Climate of Paris
Paris is situated in the North of Central France. The River Seine divides Paris into two parts. The right bank houses many of the most fashionable streets and shops. While the left bank is where the governmental offices are located. Paris includes two inhabited islands, i.e., the Ile Saint-Louis and the Ile de la Cite. There are several prominent hills in Paris including Montmartre. The city has an Oceanic climate. It enjoys a temperate climate, as it is affected by North Atlantic Drift. Paris is also known for its sudden showers, which you can expect at any time during your visit!

Transportation in Paris
Paris Roissy Charles de Gaulle Airport connects Paris with the rest of the world. To get around the city is also very easy and every place is easily accessible. There are numerous means of transportation including road, rail, and metro rail. Central Paris is so compact that walking is the most favorable way to get around. Taxis can also be used to get around; however, the rates are higher in the evenings and on Sundays.

Tourist Attractions in Paris
Paris, a world renowned tourist destination offers numerous places to visit for tourists, including cultural treasures and historic landmarks. Think about Paris and you must recognize it as the home of the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, and the Arc de Triomphe. And this is not all: there are many more places to visit! Some of these tourist attractions include Disneyland Paris, Les Egouts de Paris, Marche Buci, Musee du Louvre, Place Charles-de-Gaulle-Etoile, and Basilique du Sacre-Coeur

A wide variety of cultural festivals and small scale carnivals are going on almost all year round, offering opportunities to enjoy Paris at any time of the year. However, Christmas and Chinese New Year may be the most memorable time to visit this wonderful city.
