I started studying at Alliance Française right after Basic Military Training (National Conscription) and stayed all the way until I ended my national service liability.

J’ai étudié le français à l’Alliance Française de Singapour depuis 2 ans! (I have studied French there for 2 years already!) I started out as a beginner in the Elementary 1 class and am now studying Intermediate 5. I guess I am a true blue Alliance Française student!

Many who have taught me are native French speakers, and I appreciate the fact that the teachers rotate across the board (about once every six months). Some teachers focus more on grammar; others, pronunciation and listening. The internal examinations are set at a reasonable difficulty and there are many supplementary classes to choose from. I have also attended many French festivals in the school.

I would highly recommend this place if you are really interested in long term commitment to the language. Speak to your friends who are currently at AF; they would be able to get you a 5% discount.

The Teachers are very good but they are not consistently the same in terms of teaching. So you might get some Teachers better in teaching more textbook style more detailed and some more conversational. And the cafe, avoid if you can, the staff always look like they are having a bad day, never welcoming, if you really have to eat there, avoid this lady Jenny, she is the WORST of the bunch.

Teachers are great but administrative side needs more improvement. Working adults should be given more flexibility in terms of class and schedules. They have strict cancellation, refund, deferment policy (which is non negotiable as long as class has started). At the same time they are happy to be non flexible when it suits them – example when I first applied for class (twice a week) but it was cancelled due to insufficient students, understandable so I transferred to (once a week) class and got a credit voucher which had an expiry date on it which I tried to reason with the course coordinator but said my credit voucher had expired. Unreasonable again considering I was forced to change to once a week class – not that I wanted it.
Working adults should think twice about registering their classes here if their schedules are unpredictable. They penalize you for that. We don’t need to be reminded of our high school days since they have long past us.
If it wasn’t for the enjoyable class spent with fellow students and teachers , I would have rated 1. I wouldn’t penalize the staffs good work because of certain bad management staff.
Hope this review will help incoming students make smarter choices.

Watched ‘Juste la fin du monde’ in their theater a week ago! They usually screen movies on Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. – get there early for good seats (in the centre/back rows). The seats have little legroom, but the ambience is very immersive. Sound system’s good, seats are comfortable. There’s even an exhibition space & a café on the second floor if you have time to spare before the theater doors open.

The gallery was really detailed liked especially about the part on how much effort the restoration was done to the more dame as well as the history of the building. Overall, it was quite the experience.

The VR however, was kinda of a lil bit of a dissapointment, mostly because it was more game graphics rather than real life Images. There’s also a limitation on movement. So it felt less interactive than I was expecting. I mean, It was based on Ubisoft’s program. So I expected more out of it.

That said, the overall experience was still highly positive, and shout out to the staff for being patient and helpful because there was a period where the exhibition was really packed. The VR headset running out of battery was unfortunate and the staff handled it like a boss.

The Alliance Francaise was a great place to learn French this summer. I went to take some classes to prepare for a French reading exam at my University. Pierre was a fantastic teacher, who really took the time to explain grammar while keeping classes light and fun. He also really helped me with translating an article in a private make up lesson. I highly recommend the place and the teachers there! One caution: do not buy books unless you are sure you are in the right class. They are not refundable, even unused. I wound up having to switch to an easier class and it was complicated with the books.

It has a cozy cafe which sells food but unfortunately quite overpriced and the grandma hot coffee was very diluted with milk in it. However, not to fear it is a centre for you in which it offers a large variety of activities to help you to understand and appreciate the French language, culture and people. For example, it hosted exhibitions and shows to celebrate Francophonie week.

Service was great. Food was pretty good too. Fried rice could’ve used a little more salt. Char Siew was great for Singapore standards. To pay per portion was a little strange but fair I guess. Will try the roast duck at my next opportunity.

Lovely auditorium, but there was no nursing room available so it isn’t a kid-friendly place.

Great place. The kids’ French classes are top-notch and they have a huge amount of other events and activities on the schedule. The building itself is very nice, and close to the Newton MRT station. Also, they have a very nice cafe on the first floor that serves food, coffee, alcohol etc, so you can bide your time while waiting for kids.

I expose myself to some European culture, and I like the French one best. There’s a nice library, and they even show French movies (dubbed in English, of course) which I also like alot

Great place to learn French, at any level. Student membership allows you to rent movies and books from the library. Buy your student books at the counter on ground level.

I visited the cafe on the groundfloor for coffee and salad which were good and reasonably priced. The aircon could be cooler or shades could be placed as it gets abit too much sunlight

It’s been almost 2 months now that I’ve been learning French here. I have started from beginner level. The way the language is thought is very nice and fun I’m surprised with how much I could progress in this two months. The class is fun, energetic and engaging.

Would highly suggest here if you are looking forward to learn French.

Took my toddler there for the pre zouszous class. It was so much fun to watch her I tête at with other toddlers in “French”. The teacher (Meiji) is also great with the kids and they all had a great time.

Looking forward to the cafe (so France) opening soon, maybe next time parents can bring a cup of coffee to enjoy in the class too

The location is very convenient as it is practically next to Newton MRT station. The closest exit from the train station is Exit C which is from the Downtown Line. It is a slightly steep slope from the gate to the building itself but manageable even with a stroller. A ramp at the right-hand side of the entrance to the building gives wheelchair access to the lobby however when you get to the top of the ramp, it is a low step. There isn’t any slope and the doors at the main entrance are not automatic so you need to push the glass doors open yourself which is a little difficult when there is a stroller or wheelchair. There is an elevator in the lobby which goes to the 4th floor. There are wheelchair accessible toilets and water coolers on each floor. The place is generally quite clean and the staff are friendly and helpful. The classrooms are a variety of sizes to cater to different classes. The facilities provided are acceptable.
